Bernier likely to start

The question of whether Jonathan Bernier would start today was met with Darryl Sutter’s comment of “we don’t announce the goalies. You make that call.” Still, Jonathan Bernier was off the ice first at today’s morning skate, which would indicate that he’ll be in the crease in the second game of back to back nights when the Kings face the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome this evening.

Game time for the second consecutive night is 8:00 pm local, 7:00 pm Pacific. It will be carried live on FOX Sports West and KTLK 1150 AM.

Bernier over Quick? I think this is a good move by DS. Makes complete sense.

Just wondering, has anyone seen Brown or Kopitar? I don’t recall either of those guys doing anything on the ice last night (or most of this season). Brown has totally abandoned his game of playing tough and hitting people. Kopitar is totally ineffective. I wonder if his knee problem is more severe than he is letting on? These two guys are really MIA. Can’t figure it out.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

@Jeff, Kopitar is tied for first in points on the team, Tied for 2nd in goals and assists … just sayin. :)

@KC23, As pointed out, I don’t think that being tied for first in goals scored on the Kings exactly means that he’s lighting it up!

@Jeff, 11 was kings co-leader in points going into last nights game.

    Jeff Reply:

@yetiman_oc, So what? The Kings have the fewest goals in the NHL. Hell, I’m tied with Doughty right now in goals scored this season.

    [Reply]

    yetiman_oc Reply:

@Jeff, ok, then why only ask about those 2? sounds like the whole team is invisible as far as offense goes.

    jess Reply:

    @Jeff,

Brown stepped up an delivered the kind of hit we’ve been waiting for. But he also fell down about 10 times for no apparent reason.

    [Reply]

    Jeff Reply:

@jess, One good hit. That’s nice. Now if he could only deliver five or six good hits (and maybe score a goal or two) the Kings might not be at the bottom of the Western Conference.

@Jeff, i truly feel that brownie is taking a year off of playing super physical as he has to realize that his career will not last as long by continuing to pile up hits every year..it takes its toll.

@michael, naw, he started last year the exact same way.

Good to see Sutter rotating the goaltenders and maintaining the tension of healthy competition.

TM also did this effectively later in the season a couple of years back and the kings had a win streak going. Then for no apparent reason he put a stop to it, and coincidentally or not, the win streak came to a halt with it.

Well its time to sit back and watch these guys put us promptly in a playoff spot.
I firmly beleive we are moving in the right direction and will secure a playoff spot in the end.

The goal is a simple one, maike the playoffs then win the cup………..how hard can that be with our talent?

Kopi, Brown, Williams, Gagne, Doughty, Carter, Richards and company will hit stride about mid-March and go on a 10 game winning streak and carry it over to the playoffs.

Boy, that felt good to be half full and not half empty and more so optomistic rather then so negative.
Who’s playing, this guys crap, the lines are wrong, why hasn’t he showed up this year, cup hangover, who gave it away, couldn’t stop anything, start the other guy and all the rest just gives me all the more interest to ensure the Kings win it all again.

Oh ya, go Cliffy go……..all good folks……just keeping it real!!!!

    LT21 Reply:

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, Agree. I am a Quick fan through and through but on back to back nights it is only smart to play Bernier. He has shown he can do his job and with the schedule that March will bring they are going to need Quick as healthy and fresh as possible (“fresh” is a very relative term here).

    [Reply]

  19. linny says:

Well I thought that Bernier should have started against B- Hawks after his 2 wins because I thought whoever played was going to get a loss, but mostly because Bernier earned it IMO n had the best chance of winning. Now I think Quick should have gotten the start tonight because he plays his best the more he plays n I don’t think he could b very tired with JB getting those couple of starts recently.

So turn on ur flamethrowers n blast away…SHOUT n throw out those insults hard. I can take it…but please stop with the pitiful rejoinders like ” if u can’t stand the heat, etc…”… n get some new material. I don’t like this move at all!

    [Reply]

    HockeyNerd Reply:

    @linny,

You are contradicting yourself. Your very own arguments for the reason Quick should start tonite are and were perfectly valid reasons that he started last night.

Let’s drop this non controversy controversy already. Splitting the goaltending when there are back to back games is the right thing to do. A rested backup is better for tonite than a starter who played last night. And this “ride the hot hand” is both an illusion and nonsense. BOTH goaltenders have been playing perfectly fine the last 4 games. We’ve got MUCH bigger issues right now than who is in Goal.

    linny Reply:

@HockeyNerd, not harsh at all n I agree with much of what u said, especially about the goalie issue being the least of our problems. Also I didn’t express myself very well re: the reasons for my preference for JQ tonight…its somewhat detailed n I should have taken more time…n I think JB is outstanding…more about the timing of DS’s moves n how they compare to his past moves n reasoning (if there in fact is any). But I think his non-answers could b deliberate n seem to work as far as keeping opponents n media (and most of us) guessing. Enjoy the game

Smart move. Bernier has played well, it’s a back-to-back before returning home for a long home stand and a wild March full of games just about every other day.
