February 19 postgame quotes: Jonathan Quick

On the importance of getting two points:
“Every game is important. Every time. It’s so tight that every time you win a game, you jump a spot up. When you lose a game, you drop a spot. We’ve got to keep the momentum.”

On getting into a rhythm with several key saves early in the first period:
“They seem to do that pretty well here. They always have strong starts. You kind of expect that and you prepare yourself for that. I was lucky to make a couple saves and keep it zero-zero, and we ended up playing them much better after that.”

On whether there was a change of trajectory on the one goal he allowed:
“Yeah, I guess it looked like he was shooting glove, and I think it might have hit something, but what are you going to do?”

On Edmonton’s speed:
“Yeah, they’ve got a lot of guys that can skate. It’s fast ice, too. We’ve seen them a few times. We know they’ve got a lot of speed. They like to open it up. They’ve got a lot of guys that are very talented with the puck. I think we did a good job of shutting that down and making them play on the wall. We outplayed them on the wall tonight.”

    By far the best game of the year for quick. Big saves and d was there to clear rebounds and win battles with loose pucks. Hope it’s a turning point…

    @tornado12, See how well Quickie plays when you give him a couple games off. You keep him hungry and refresh and he’ll steal some games for ya. Mark my words he needs a couple games off every 5-7 straight starts.

    @rogiesbackup, yeah he played horribly in those 20 straight playoff games………

    Fantastic game tonight from JQ.
    Uncanny the similarities in the EDM goal and the Kings’ winning goal.

    So, I guess we won tonight? I imagine that we didn’t do a knee sliding goal celebrations? I guess our guys actually scored all 4 goals in the game? I guess the Kings and the rest of the league have already figured out how to stop Yakupov, and it only took 5 games (imagine that, being able to figure out a 19-year old player in the NHL after only 5 games?). I am really glad they got 2 points tonight, that Quick looked like his old self, that Brown was hitting people, and we scored an empty netter. GKG!

    @DesertKing,

    Edmonton will be a better team when they stop playing like a bunch of guys concerned about their own stats. Yakupov put his power play unit in a bad spot by skating laterally at the blue line, and then dumping it where no one could get it because they all had to wait at the line. I saw at least two passes intended for Oilers in good scoring position that were picked off by a teammate trying to make a low-percentage play.

    They will eventually learn that winning takes sacrifices, but until they do, they will continue to lose games like these.

    @KingMe20, It must be excruciating at times for your Smiths, your Belangers and your Horcoffs who must all wish that their brains could be transplanted into guys with the feet and hands of the likes of your Halls, your Eberles and your Nuges who were all -3s tonight.
    Incidentally, Kings’ best was TLew with a healthy +3.

    I said streak n I meant it! So including tonight’s win I say we go 5-2 w 4 OT games which we split for 7-2-2 n quick starts em all except St. Louis as its the 2nd in back t back. Quick plays better the more he plays so I look for Sutter to reiterate his previous comment about planning to start JQ every game.

    @linny, this is dependent upon A-mart coming back at home in that kopi had an off game as opposed to having serious problems w his knee n needs to sit

    Lundqvist sucks. Really. He does.

    [Reply]

    linny Reply:

    @DesertKing, I don’t think he sucks but that he’s slightly overrated, as is Smith, Elliott n Luongo, who’s a total head case.

    [Reply]

    phil sykes Reply:

    @linny, smith is a total stud .. lundquist as well …luongo maybe slightly below…. elliot is good , but just needs better feet

    [Reply]

    linny Reply:

    @phil sykes, Smith is big n covers alot of space n has decent skill set but as we have all seen he gets flustered easily, banging his stick n crying “foul” more than most. After that happens…yes average. If u look at his career stats last year could b a fluke…we’ll c.

    linny Reply:

    @phil sykes, I’ll take back a little of what I said about Lundquist…his regular season stats r very good, around 2.3 gas n .915 +/- a little…BUT his playoff stats not so hot…20-25 record n closer to. 90 save %…n like Smith, he blows up alot n his anger works against him. Now if by stud u meant his wiki photo, then ur right…he’s very good looking.

    phil sykes Reply:

    @linny, please dont stat me to death ….. im not a stat nerd … a guy can either play or cant ….. and trust me those guys can …… great goalies . stats are reflective of your defense …. teammates etc…..

    For everyone who was doubting, the reports of Quick’s demise were premature. Goalie controversy, my eye.
    For everyone who was doubting, the reports of TMs offense’s demise were premature. Ryan Smyth must have been all nostalgic watching the Kings playing style.
    For everyone who was doubting, the reports of Ellerby’s glaring faults were… okay, those weren’t premature. He need a LOT of work.

    At this point, the Kings play in the 20 playoff games seems like a unicorn dream we all shared because they are pretty much playing exactly like the regular season last year: Can hardly generate any good chances – and when they DO get a decent look, the shots are always blocked or wide – and dump-chase waaaaay too much. After this many regular season games with basically this forward crew – and seeing the success that style of play had in the playoffs – I think we have to just be resigned to grinding out 2-1 wins on dirty goals (with a rare sighting of a pretty goal, just to tease us with the prospect that more of those COULD be coming)

    More heartburn and ulcers are in store so stock up on Tums.

  8. Kenny44 says:

    Hansen’s excuse was that he was trying to catch the puck? With his elbow? Riiiiiiiigght.

    Datsyuk’s goal against the Preds has to be in the running for play of the year, no matter what else happens this year

    [Reply]

    Duncanz Reply:

    @Kenny44, What was so special about that?
    And seriously, Hossa has got to keep his head up, keep his feet moving, and keep from skating into trouble areas.
    His coach must be livid with him.

    @Duncanz,

    Are you accusing me of over-estimating?

    [Reply]

    Duncanz Reply:

    @Kenny44, Lol, just trollin’ … obviously … kind of…
    My question is if Datsyuk found a way to unlock the Preds Sing Sing lockdown defensive system, why couldn’t any King do the same – except for VV’s beautiful ‘glass pass’ to Brownie the other Thursday night?!
    And I actually do believe Hansen was trying to reach over for that puck as klutzy as it may have ended up being.
    Hey, nice lil’ Matt Cooke gets the benefit of the doubt, why not Hulk Hansen, eh?

    linny Reply:

    @Duncanz, “Your killlling me Larrryyyy”….er Dunckie…Hosea did have his head up but he was hit from behind with a wicked forearm to the back of his neck/head. IMO Hansen didn’t even come close to to trying to catch the Puck. I’m sure I’ll c it again by later on today but after 3 times I doubt I’ll c it any different. It I do u know Ill admit I got it wrong.

    @Duncanz, but hey at least the floggin nuckers got 2 goals in the last 2 minutes to steal a point ….jesusssssssssss …….. and of course 3 point game in nashville …….the only benefit is we are starting to get in a good tiebreaker situation with some of our western conference rivals , because we havent played that many 3 pointers – thats the silver lining – we might end up in a good tiebreaker situation against some of these teams
