February 19 postgame quotes: Drew Doughty

On whether it appears this game sent the team in the right direction:
“Yeah, it does, but we can’t look too far ahead like that. We’ve got to just look at that first shift of that next game and how important it is. We’re going to study Calgary tomorrow before the game and know what to expect from them and know that coaches put everything in place for us.”

On Jonathan Quick’s big saves:
“Quickie always makes big saves. That’s just Quickie. He was great. I think he made like three breakaway saves. That’s huge. If those go in, that’s a completely different game. We probably don’t win it. We rely on Quickie maybe a little bit too much sometimes, but we’re so confident in him back there – both our goalies.”

On whether the second period shot discrepancy in L.A.’s favor is anything more than a coincidence:
“I think a lot of times it’s because after the first period – we’ve played so bad in the first – we come in and Darryl yells at us and we as a team kind of get on each other to step it up and wake up. It’s not a good thing that we’re having bad firsts, but it’s a good thing that we’re having good seconds. So now we’ve just got to continue to be better in that first, and if we can continue being like that in the second, we should have the lead by the third and shut teams down from there.”

On playing with different defensive partners:
“I’m playing with a a lot of guys. They were kind of rotating me through Drewiske, Ellerby and Muzzin, and I like that. At the same time it’s good to have one partner that you’re used to playing with, but switching it up and trying to create some offense or having more of a solid D-pairing out there is a good thing.”

This was Quick’s kind of game…he seems to be up for the breakaways. Dewey seems to play better under the kind of pressure we saw tonight too. Guys like Kyle Clifford who stood out in slower-pace games didn’t really stand out here. The big surprise game to me was Scuds. Seems he sorta bounced back from the kind of funk he seemed to be in. Brown even got in a few hits. The one constant was Carter…that move is looking better and better. I thought Fraser just might get the game winner, too.

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, DD had that turnover early and thankfully it didn’t cost us. He led that rush late which is what he needs to more often. Totally agree that Clifford did not stand out. When other teams are sluggish he has shined.

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, What are you talking about, Clifford was forchecking like the stud he is. did you not see Cliffy keep the puck down, he also recovered it down low several times when the puck squirted loose. Cliffy is probably the Kings fastest skater.

@brian spain, I’m talking about what I said. He didn’t stand out as much in this game.

@brian spain, I agree with you…Cliffy was fine and played a huge role in grinding down the Oilers. I thought that Richards, Carter & Clifford was the best line on getting and keeping momentum on our side.

Quick was the reason for this win as he made the stops needed early to allow the Kings to get into the game and eventually get the lead. Playing from behind is not the Kings strong suit, as we are all aware.

Aw yes must imagine there has been a lot of yelling between periods…..

And there is subtle joke in there somewhere I’m certain.

@Lake Forest, That was a little more raw and less guarded than the answers you’d usually expect.
    Refreshing.

@MmmmYummy, not that I would take JJ over Drew but jack’s numbers are even more impressive when you consider the amount of ice time he plays on a bad team. I mean by definition when you’re playing like half the game then player who’s on the ice more than him when the Jackets give up a goal is Mason in the nets
