With Bernier having won two in a row, why would you replace him with Quick? Go with the “hot hand” and right now that’s Bernier.

    [Reply]

    linny Reply:

@Jeff, initially I was thinking along the same lines, (and which is why I lost the bet I made) but IMO we’re not going to make the playoffs without quick in net n u have to get him back and as good as last year asap. If he gets us the win today, would b a huge spark. Of course if he gets lit up we could have problems (I know this is not an in depth analysis but I’m sure there’s going to b alot of that later on)

    [Reply]

    Duncanz Reply:

@linny, Here’s an in depth analysis from the shallow end of the talent pool:
If the Kings keep limiting their opponents to 15 shots a goal we’re good with whoever’s the hot hand!

DL shoud let go players like Penner, Gagne, send King and Nolan back to Manchester. Kins need a a “new blood” and get players like Brown, Doughty and Richards play like they can. So, I see why not fans can say what they think…Will he listen? Probably not…But some thing obvious-Penner and Gagne should go. Some (many) players should get back in shape. Am I wrong?

    Cynic Reply:

@KC23, Most times I’d agree here, but to me, it’s clear that Chicago is playing the game we USUALLY play. If we had a comlpletely healthy D core, this game would be closer, but our neutral zone passing is so horrible, we can’t generate any aggression on the rush. That’s our game! Guys are not keeping their heads up and finishing passes.

We’re constantly on our heels. At this point, throw caution to the wind and just jump in d-men to help with the neutral zone rushes. If we don’t score quickly and often, we’re done. Whether we lose 3-0 or 7-0 doesn’t matter. Might as well go all in.

This is simple, the Kings do not have the skill level needed to simply show up and beat most teams in the NHL. Human nature is to rest on your laurels after reaching the peak, and that’s what it looks like has happened. This team is built in a way where it needs 100% commitment from the players to play a structured system, and play with passion by using their size advantage and get in on the forecheck and pound the opponent into submission. Too many players like Lewis, Penner, Stoll, Nolan, Clifford, Brown, King, Richards, Richardson….and not enough skill like Carter and Kopitar. Until these guys play to their strengths (by getting 100% prepared to play with vigor) this team is as we see it. A lackluster bunch a little too happy with last season’s success.

    6. King and Nolan need to go back to the Monarchs and bring up some new blood. Totally inconsistent all season
    7. Shooting – the worst on-net percentage in the league.
    8. Penner is back to his ‘pancake mentality’ from last year

@CB14, Below average??? What game wer you watching? He and Carter were the best two forwards out there. Richards was solid in all 3 zones, strong on the forecheck, pushing in the Ozone. He was in the Hawks zone creating chances with his line more thana the other 3.

    [Reply]

@Deirdre, grading on a Mike Richards scale, not comparing whether he did a little better than other King forwards.

@Deirdre, We’re all rooting for MR too and I am pleased for him to be slowly getting going.
But on the whole he hasn’t met most Kings fans’ expectations in his 100 + games now.
Although most are wanting him to be a points scoring machine, my only (humble) expectation is for a little consistency from him, in-game and game to game.
When I see that I won’t be concerned anymore because I know the Gs & As will follow on.
He earned his wake up call with the starting lines changing like they did recently.
Now it’s up to him to get back to being our best (or top 3) forward on a periodly and on a nightly basis.

@kissmyblarneystones, if the Kings would start games with half of the energy they showed at the end of 2nd and most of 3rd they would be way ahead of where they are now. Being at home wasn’t a cureall last year and can more easily to lead to complacency with a homemade full belly every night. DS challenge is to get these guys on the stick early in games. Most practices have had good energy. Hard to understand how that disappears in starts of games.

    @Cntrmn19,

Unless you are prepared for it, which clearly they weren’t’ Chicago swarms right out of the gate every game. It’s one thing to expect it but completely another to experience it. There was so much movement on that first goal, the Kings were lined up in a row down the slot when the Black Haws scored.

Well, it ended up a close game but they just need to find their groove again and soon. I’m giving em 25 games in and I’ll start to panic then, but it’s still early in the season. I have faith

I also have to agree that Bernier should’ve started. Remember when Murray last year had a few game winking streak and then he played Bernier and we started losing in streaks. Well this is the same in reverse. Too bad Doughty can’t play defense like he plays offense.

@FabKings, you mean when TM started Bernier after JQ had three shutouts in a row?…that was horrible…this was a call that DS will maybe second guess…but, he won’t dwell on it for too long

@g smith86, yes, exactly. Why not start the hot hand?? Thought Daryl lived by that, guess even he is still learning.

  391. Daren says:

Someone probably already mentioned it but why would Sutter not start Bernier again? Jim was talking about Sutter starting the “hot” goalie. Wouldn’t that be the person who just turned in 2 great performances in a row? Not as bad as Murray starting Bernier when Quick was on his shut out streak but still a momentum killer in my oopinion.

Goal 1 PP goal + Black Hawk knocked the stick out of his hand. Goal 2, Kopi standing on his stick when goal scored. No a bad outing from JQ. Very few rebounds.

Would not of made a difference.

You need the rest of the team to show up against the # 1 team in the NHLn for the first two periods.

@jess, The logic comment was very uncool. It WOULD have made a difference although we do not know which way. Bernier could have given up 6 or had the shutout. MY comment was about playing the HOT goaltender which Sutter mentioned and Foxy discoursed ad nauseam during the telecast. I have read your posts, you DO NOT know more about hockey than I do. Show some respect and leave the snide comments to yourself.

@CB14…that also applies to you since you cosigned for @jess

    jess Reply:

    @5points,

no, we actually needed him for those two. A backup has a function, you don’t just showcase him like a pony for the sake of doing so. There is a season to think about and you play him when it’s right and keep him sharp and in the game.

    [Reply]

    Daren Reply:

@5points, I think they played him to send a message to Quick because he has not been sharp. I would not be surprised if they are shopping him but will not pull the trigger until Quick gets back into form.

Better ending to the game, but by not showing up for the first two periods, they got what they deserved today. Credit to the Hawks, there’s a reason they have a point in every game they’ve played. They skate faster and harder than anyone in the league, and they think the game better too. The Kings didn’t hustle, didn’t move their legs and didn’t show any fight or intensity for the first half of the game, and that cost them again. It’s a bad habit that they had better find a way to end quickly.

I thought as the game went on, Quick was much better, but he’s still giving up goals for the same reason. He’s overcommitted on probably 90% of the goals against him this year, and he’s just swimming back there. Part of it is the defense missing Greene, Mitchell and Martinez, but a lot of it is his own approach. Last year, he was solidly square to the shooter, and the scrambling was for rebounds. This year, he’s starting off scrambling, and scrambling even harder to get back. I’m not sure how the Kings will fix that, but they better figure it out soon. I think we all love Bernier, but I would rather have Quick back in form than to have to rely on a rotation.

Kings were not as tenacious as the Hawks which cost them the game. I do like the fact though their throwing lots of hits. They were more physical in that department, but just got caught chasing the puck and the game for that matter. Good to see Richards scoring when it seemed they couldn’t buy a goal. And Carter just missed tying it up in the slot. Everybody else is losing to the Hawks too so no time to panic. On to Alberta.

  398. g smith86 says:

Bottom line is..they don’t have Willie, Greene or Amart right now…this defense has to come together and quick…work it out…Bernier should get another start…he seems to be the calmer goalie, which will help settle the D…until one of these goalies start to win games, and by that I mean, steal games…we could be in for a long short season…but, i think this team will figure it out…and JQ will return to form and things will drastically improve
