@Jeff, initially I was thinking along the same lines, (and which is why I lost the bet I made) but IMO we’re not going to make the playoffs without quick in net n u have to get him back and as good as last year asap. If he gets us the win today, would b a huge spark. Of course if he gets lit up we could have problems (I know this is not an in depth analysis but I’m sure there’s going to b alot of that later on)

@linny, Here’s an in depth analysis from the shallow end of the talent pool:
If the Kings keep limiting their opponents to 15 shots a goal we’re good with whoever’s the hot hand!

HAWKS= came out flying , prepared and ready to play
KINGS= well…..they just don’t look ready and prepared
If it wasnt for quick it could easily be 4-0

Either the kings are cought flatfooted or the Black hawks are jumping on, everytime the Kings turn the puck, Hawks are coming right at em with out-numbered attack. On the other hand, the kings are not making em turn the puck over. Chicago owns territorial advantage so far.

Did NOTHING right that period, so it should be easy to exploit all that room for improvement.
Fumbling pucks, throwing INT’s, no puck support, no speed away from the puck, huge gaps between F and D, little hitting.
Obviously, CHI is playing extremely well right now, but we are playing right into their hands.

The Kings need to come out flying, almost reckless abandon. Hit everything that moves and give the Hawks no room to breather. That should be enough to turn things around.

@ArmChairKingsFan, right. and then you find yourself out of position with a 3-1 going the other way. no question they got to pick it up, but we are not a team that does “reckless” well. stick to the system, hit guys, make good passes, help your goalie. that’s the formula.

Only 2 reasons we’re sucking right now:
1. Defense is depleted. Can’t replace experience. Guys chasing, missing coverages and causing forwards to go out of position as well. D-men have to pick it up and play out of their skin just to keep up. This is getting bad.
2. NEUTRAL ZONE PASSING IS HORRIBLE!!! Last game it was impeccable. How do we play our grinding forecheck style if we can’t get pucks in the O-Zone?!?!
PICK IT UP FELLAS!!!

Terrible performance. Once again, no power, no passion..nothing!!! Defence is suck, Quick-bad. All 3 goals were scored in empty net. Painfull to watch, knowing that this same team could play much better. Mark my words, after this season we will find out that everyone were out of shape, did’t prerared for the season and so on. DL shoud let go players like Penner, Gagne, send King and Nolan back to Manchester. Kins need a a “new blood” and get players like Brown, Doughty and Richards play like they can. And you know what, If Kings wouldn’t make playoffs last year (and they were very close not to make)DL would be fired. ..And the major reason why he is a GM, because he married daughter of very famous coach, not because he got briliant hockey mind. So, I see why not fans can say what they think…Will he listen? Probably not…But some thing obvious-Penner and Gagne should go. Some (many) players should get back in shape. Am I wrong?

DS’s own statement praising the Blackhawks 4th line better wake him up. The Kings 4th line has no energy and does noting to fire up the team. Nolan back to the minors and sit King until he gets back the fire from last season.

Another frustrating view of Dwight King. He’s got a Hawk defender curling toward him along the boards with the puck. Instead of loading his hips, stepping forward and rocking that guy, he pulls up and just sort of stands in the way. I’m glad he’s a nice guy and everything, but that’s not his job description.

Cynic Reply:

@KC23, Most times I’d agree here, but to me, it’s clear that Chicago is playing the game we USUALLY play. If we had a comlpletely healthy D core, this game would be closer, but our neutral zone passing is so horrible, we can’t generate any aggression on the rush. That’s our game! Guys are not keeping their heads up and finishing passes.
We’re constantly on our heels. At this point, throw caution to the wind and just jump in d-men to help with the neutral zone rushes. If we don’t score quickly and often, we’re done. Whether we lose 3-0 or 7-0 doesn’t matter. Might as well go all in.
Chicago looks crazy good. Ducks-Chicago sounds like a great playoff series right now. (That hurts to say)

This is simple, the Kings do not have the skill level needed to simply show up and beat most teams in the NHL. Human nature is to rest on your laurels after reaching the peak, and that’s what it looks like has happened. This team is built in a way where it needs 100% commitment from the players to play a structured system, and play with passion by using their size advantage and get in on the forecheck and pound the opponent into submission. Too many players like Lewis, Penner, Stoll, Nolan, Clifford, Brown, King, Richards, Richardson….and not enough skill like Carter and Kopitar. Until these guys play to their strengths (by getting 100% prepared to play with vigor) this team is as we see it. A lackluster bunch a little too happy with last season’s success.

Guys. I always enjoy all of the banter here throughout every game. But I think everyone is on same page with this:
1. Dustin Brown does not deserve his ‘C’ this year. No passion, no hitting, no team leadership
2. Kopitar can’t hold onto the puck, receive a clean puck, and makes poor decisions
3. Quick is scrambling and not playing smart in goal all season
4. DS needs to stop being TM- Bernier should have started today. We need something to build on
5. The injuries in our defense is devastating to the flow and PK
6. King and Nolan need to go back to the Monarchs and bring up some new blood. Totally inconsistent all season
7. Shooting – the worst on-net percentage in the league.
8. Penner is back to his ‘pancake mentality’ from last year
9. The Kings are the most predictable team to read in the league
10. We are the defending Stanley Cup champs. Start playing like the champs
I am sure that will be plenty for folks to chew on. I just want the “proudness” back in our Kings,

@Deirdre, We’re all rooting for MR too and I am pleased for him to be slowly getting going.
But on the whole he hasn’t met most Kings fans’ expectations in his 100 + games now.
Although most are wanting him to be a points scoring machine, my only (humble) expectation is for a little consistency from him, in-game and game to game.
When I see that I won’t be concerned anymore because I know the Gs & As will follow on.
He earned his wake up call with the starting lines changing like they did recently.
Now it’s up to him to get back to being our best (or top 3) forward on a periodly and on a nightly basis.

Not big on ‘what ifs?’ and I didn’t see who it was, but someone tried to center that pass at the end, when if it went to the point, they still have 30 seconds to move the puck around.
Good effort though. Hopefully they learn to play a full 60 minutes instead of 20-25.

@kissmyblarneystones, if the Kings would start games with half of the energy they showed at the end of 2nd and most of 3rd they would be way ahead of where they are now. Being at home wasn’t a cureall last year and can more easily to lead to complacency with a homemade full belly every night. DS challenge is to get these guys on the stick early in games. Most practices have had good energy. Hard to understand how that disappears in starts of games.

Better ending to the game, but by not showing up for the first two periods, they got what they deserved today. Credit to the Hawks, there’s a reason they have a point in every game they’ve played. They skate faster and harder than anyone in the league, and they think the game better too. The Kings didn’t hustle, didn’t move their legs and didn’t show any fight or intensity for the first half of the game, and that cost them again. It’s a bad habit that they had better find a way to end quickly.
I thought as the game went on, Quick was much better, but he’s still giving up goals for the same reason. He’s overcommitted on probably 90% of the goals against him this year, and he’s just swimming back there. Part of it is the defense missing Greene, Mitchell and Martinez, but a lot of it is his own approach. Last year, he was solidly square to the shooter, and the scrambling was for rebounds. This year, he’s starting off scrambling, and scrambling even harder to get back. I’m not sure how the Kings will fix that, but they better figure it out soon. I think we all love Bernier, but I would rather have Quick back in form than to have to rely on a rotation.

Kings were not as tenacious as the Hawks which cost them the game. I do like the fact though their throwing lots of hits. They were more physical in that department, but just got caught chasing the puck and the game for that matter. Good to see Richards scoring when it seemed they couldn’t buy a goal. And Carter just missed tying it up in the slot. Everybody else is losing to the Hawks too so no time to panic. On to Alberta.
[Reply]
Bottom line is..they don’t have Willie, Greene or Amart right now…this defense has to come together and quick…work it out…Bernier should get another start…he seems to be the calmer goalie, which will help settle the D…until one of these goalies start to win games, and by that I mean, steal games…we could be in for a long short season…but, i think this team will figure it out…and JQ will return to form and things will drastically improve
