Martinez to IR; Campbell recalled

With Alec Martinez expected to miss at least a week due to an upper-body injury, defenseman Andrew Campbell has been recalled from AHL-Manchester for the second time in a week. Campbell played in one game with the Monarchs – Manchester’s third annual Pink in the Rink game – and recorded a goal, an assist, and a plus-two rating. The Monarchs lost 5-4 to the Providence Bruins in a shootout, running the team’s winless streak to six games (0-5-0-1).

Campbell, a 6-foot-4, 206 pound left-shooting defenseman, has one goal and eight points in 28 games. After registering a minus-31 ranking in his first two AHL campaigns, he is a plus-39 over his last three.

Campbell and Jake Muzzin were teammates with the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds from 2006-08.

In 11 games, Martinez has one goal, two points and an even rating.

    lets hope he just goes unnoticed and takes care of his own end…meaning no glaring mistakes. A Dman who doesnt get the headlines in regards to play is a good one

    @kissmyblarneystones, Depends what kind of movie you are into, without knowing would recommend “Lincoln” or “Argo”. I liked “Django Unchained” a lot but it is very violent and has some — I’m not sure I would say “offensive” — but definitely scenes that would be “awkward” for some.

    What I like about Andrew Campbell is the fact that this guy has improved drastically over the past 3 seasons in his own zone and is becoming dependable. That’s major kudos to people like Morris. hextall, Ranford, and others who have spent time training, and counseling him on the mental parts of the game.

    Looking back, JJ would have been better off playing in Manchester and learning what it was like to play against grown men, and brought along the right way. Who knows, maybe he wouldnt have turned out to be the plus/minus disaster he turned out to be here.

    [Reply]

    jess Reply:

    @puck73,

    YES.

    -But would’ve he had mastered the lost art of HEAD FAKES?

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @puck73,
    Giving him the majority of defensive zone starts when his main weekness was in the defensive zone didn’t help. Now that DD takes those zone starts everything is good.

    If JJ got the same zone starts VV gets nobody would hate him, but they wanted DD to be the offensive juggernaught at that time. JJ could score, he just sucked against top end talent in his own end.

    jess Reply:

    @Dominick,

    Everyone knows how difficult it is to take care of one’s own end. What makes matters worse is when one runs out of Costco toilet paper, and has consumed copius amounts of nachos.

    [Reply]

    @jess, Don’t tell DesertKing that. He’s gonna try a new plunger and some drain cleaner!

    jess Reply:

    @Dominick,

    Even the great @DK knows that only Costco products can counteract problems created by Costco products. With that in mind, I’m sure he’s waddling about the vast isles of said mass retailer at this very moment ;)

    Osaka Reply:

    @Dominick, Are you forgetting this is a Kings fans’ site, we’ve all seen JJ play. He ain’t no Drew. No hate for JJ at all. Looks like the Kings didn’t miss him much though.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @Osaka,
    In my opinion the Kings should have used DD there years ago. We won a cup with DD kicking everyones behind there. JJ is a moot point anyway. Perfectly happy with VV where he is.

    Duncanz Reply:

    @puck73, Andrew Campbell dependable??? Are you totally NUTS????!!!!
    You must be one of those west coast so-called hockey fans who spends all day lying on your surfboard smoking doobies on the beach and getting your info from the UVs as they turn your brain into a raisin.
    The only thing “dependable” about Campbell is that he will end up being a bag boy in the ECHL with a piece of straw between his teeth!!!!!

    Yours Sincerely, @Simarosa ~ Manchester, New Hampshire.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @Duncanz, If I remember correctly, many said King was “tradebait”. Marinez his first few call ups looked “slow” and “didn belong”. Nolan “will never see time as a King unless he’s being showcased”. These guys are all drafted or aquired because they fit a certain mold just as Cambell was.

    Maybe he’s not ready for primetime, but he does have attribes that made the Kings aquire him to begin with.

    [Reply]

    Duncanz Reply:

    @Dominick, Yup, that’s for sure.
    That’s why I can’t figure how a guy like @Simarosa who watches him night in, night out can’t come up with a single redeeming quality of his, when personally I expect him to make these misplaced piano-toting slugs like Martinez and Voynov excess to requirements as soon as he sashays onto the ice at Staples!

    Token Reply:

    @Dominick, an jus to provide some perspective … Scuds never saw NHL ice till he was 26 years old. Aren’t we happy we got him now?

    Big stay at home defensemen take time to simmer on low before they are tender.

    Whitney has been a healthy scratch for EDM. Would he make a good rental D for the remainder of the season?

    [Reply]

    jess Reply:

    @Osaka,

    The deal can only realistically work if he is dropped over TSC from a helicopter.

    [Reply]

    Duncanz Reply:

    @jest, Of course then the copter would endure a fiery crash onto @DessertKing’s monster truck in the $40 lot – but Whitney, the new secret sniper, would still safely emerge, enter Staples and blow Ryane Clowe and his smirking mug gloriously off the top of the boards and back into the bench area, leaving his dangling stick to fall forlornly onto the ice with a clink.
    Then we’d burn the corpse all over with our cigar ends, wrap it in a bunch of sweaty gatorade towels, give it a perfunctory ceremony and ingloriously toss it off the Sta Monica Pier into the ocean eponymously named for our glorious, democratic, freedom loving Division!!

    @KC23, Didn’t we just say that about Ellerby? Coach is making a statement in EDM and he is an UFA this summer. Besides playing D for the Kings would be a lot easier than in EDM.

    luc20rules Reply:

    @Osaka, Ellerby was starting in Florida on the 3rd Pair. Many just questioned what we would be getting from Florida for a 5th round pick. In my opinion DL was just doing what he always does collect D prospects with potential.
