Audio: Quick hits with Alex Pietrangelo

St. Louis defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, selected two spots behind Drew Doughty, fourth overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft, ranks third in the league in defensive scoring with 11 points. That’s one point behind teammate Kevin Shattenkirk and two points behind Winnipeg blueliner Tobias Enstrom. He spoke with LA Kings Insider after the Blues’ morning skate.

    I think the Blues were big time over achievers last year. I’m not all that impressed with them, but they did improve their back end a bit. Their new rookie defensemen looks very good.

    @KC23,

    Their rookie winger, Vladimir Tarasenko, has been extremely impressive this year. I’m not sure much they over achieved last year, except maybe in net. Having Halak back is a big boost for them, but hopefully he’ll need a game or two to get going.

    I wish I was in St. Louis for some of that great BBQ! Petra is a good guy and I think the Blues learned a bunch after being completely owned by the kings in the playoffs last year. I still hate them tho. GKG!!!

    I’m a broken record, but the Kings once again are scoring on less than 7% of their shots, just like last season. This is a historically low number. Not sure what it is about this team that the pucks just don’t go in. Until that number gets in the 8 to 10% range, they will continue to be on the outside looking in.

    I’m anticipating a lot of Doughty bashing as a result of this post.
    Before you do though, as yourself these 2 big questions.

    Has Pietrangelo won a Gold medal at the Olympics?
    Has Pietrangelo won a Stanley Cup? – Doughty was arguably the best player for the Kings in the playoffs

    Doughty also plays over 2 more minutes a game than Pietrangelo.
    The +/- is a concern no doubt, but when you can’t score to save your life, it’s hard to make up some of that +/-

    @California Royalty, Better than Kopitar, Quick, Brown? That’s debatable. :)

    @California Royalty, I think having Doughty sit this one out would only help him. But we one one really to replace him with.

  6. Have to digress, because Sunday’s loss is still hard to digest…

    People know me as a Bakersfield Condors fan.
    I missed this, by missing Friday night’s game…

    @BakoCAkingsCondorsGuy, Awesome man. Heads up by the keeper to let go of it when he wiped out. Then the bird said… “I’m outa here.” I bet mothers were holding on tight to their babies too.

    @neil,

    I loved it last year when someone asked Coach Sutter about Bernier’s lack of playing time and when he might get a chance. He said something almost exactly like:

    “He better come out like it’s game seven.”

    Classic. Still applies.

    BTW… I can’t think of a worse job to have after back surgery than being a hockey goalie.
