The (winged) wheels have been set in motion for a new arena in downtown Detroit – Nick Nickson and I will discuss this during the first intermission – but until the projected two-year endeavor is completed, Joe Louis Arena remains the home of the Red Wings and one of the fiercest home-ice advantages in the National Hockey League. As someone who went to college in the area, I’ve seen my handful of Kings-Wings and Michigan-Michigan State games in this building, but I wasn’t at Game 5 of the 2001 first round playoff series between these two teams. Were any blog readers at that famous game?

@Fielding Mellish: I object, your honor! This trial is a travesty. It’s a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham.

If I remember right the Kings season took a turn for the positive after that heartbreaking loss in Detroit. Let’s turn this season around with a huge win in Detroit against a vulnerable team. Win these next two and we’re back in a playoff spot.
With apologies to Gail:
Go Kings Go

Another heart wrenching loss in Detroit! The Kings played an okay game and deserve a point in this game. The LA Kings defense did not help in the last seconds of the game by allowing that point blank shot from the slot. Quick should have had that save but he didn’t because his defense let him down. The Kings better put this loss behind them otherwise they will be routed in Saint Louis tomorrow. The struggles to score still continue and until they improved this Kings will not win any games! Watching the Kings play at the moment brings back memories of their play under Terry Murray. The magic of last season’s is gone. Nothing but struggles for this Kings at the moment! Tough to watch this underachieving team play!
