Behold: Nationwide Arena

Welcome to Columbus’ creatively named “Arena District,” where Nationwide Arena sits amidst a collection of bars and restaurants. There’s Buca di Beppo and bd’s Mongolian Grill amongst other eateries, and an intersection I like to think of as “Little Canada,” which features a Tim Horton’s directly across the street from Boston’s.

The interior of Nationwide Arena is gorgeous and features a beautiful HD scoreboard. As one would expect, it’s much nicer than the larger Value City Arena, which was constructed two years prior to Nationwide’s opening and serves the home of Ohio State basketball and hockey.

UPDATE: This is a new HD scoreboard, apparently, and was installed for the 2013 All-Star Game, which was cancelled due to the lockout. Thank you, Alex Kinkopf (@KingsCastBlog), for the note.

Joe, if you get bored, walk North on High street to the Short North area.

    Decent bars, good restaurants.

Probably the least “Chain Restaurant” part of Columbus.

    things i like about Columbus:
    - restaurants in the Short North are good
    - i like at the arena how the practice rink is attached to the main rink
    - sightlines are great
    - i like how they have kept all the hats for the hat tricks that have occurred at the games in a giant display case
    - as JonRosen/JR/Ron Jonsen said, the bars in the area are pretty good

    things i do not like:
    - that stupid cannon which blasts after every home goal. luckily the Jackets do not score much

@Shakes, … cos they are usually cannon fodder.

    Very true about building…
One of the better venues out there…
It’s one of the cleanest and well kept buildings…
People who run the shows are great….
Although it is one of the coldest buildings, the ice is always down..
    Any how…We can’t lose this game…
Not if we are gonna be of any significance this season..
    GKG..
