Heard in the Vancouver Locker Room

VANCOUVER HEAD COACH ALAIN VIGNEAULT:
(Re game recap):” We emptied the tank and our guys did what they had to do against the Stanley Cup Champions. We battled real hard. They got a break on their power play where we win our draw and then we can’t put a handle on the puck and it goes off of a couple of our shin pads and one of their great players finds a way to put it past [Luongo]. When you get the type of effort like we did tonight, you feel like you should win. Losing is not fun, but at the end of the day, some of our guys took a step in the right direction.

VANCOUVER FORWARD HENRIK SEDIN:
(Re game recap): “It’s tough, we were up 2-0 in three games now and we have been letting teams back in…We are usually really good in those situations up a goal or two. We have to be stronger in those areas where there is a couple of minutes left in a period or in the game. Just make better plays. ”

VANCOUVER GOALTENDER ROBERTO LUONGO:
(Re game recap): “Disappointing on getting scored on in the last minute like that…I thought we played well tonight. Tough to assess performance after a loss…always want to find ways to be better, maybe make an extra save somewhere.”

“It’s a short year, you want to bank as many points as possible. We weren’t in control tonight. We let it slip away. As far as team effort, I thought we played really well. We just came up short.”

I have to say, as much as I hate the nucks as a team in general, Luongo’s sportsmanship is decent unlike Smyth wack’n-stick of the cryotes.

@jess, Agreed…when Clifford was pushed into him, he gave Clifford a tap on the leg. I’m guessing that Clifford said something to him (like are you alright…something like that). Luongo has been around enough to know when he is being run and when he isn’t.

@mrbrett7, Not to discount what Luongo did but Clifford tapped him on the leg first. That could have gotten terribly out of hand if Luongo reacted negatively to being run into. But he stayed level and realized that incidental stuff happens. Both players were true professionals.

@jess, I share your opinion about the Nucks but I have to give them props for the effort they showed playing the 3rd game in 4 nights. GO KINGS GO!!!

@jess, Great take. I let off the smack gas against the Nucks and their fans after last years playoff series. I thought their team and fans were pretty classey last year overall (unlike the Cryotes). I also stopped with the Seden smack talk. That hit from Brown was a monster hit and Seden came right back and give it his all and he gave no excuses or blame (unlike Doan).

@KC23, I dont know about there fans. I was at a few playoff games in the nucks series and they were dicks. Acting like California fans know nothing about hockey or play hockey. which is joke ive played my most of my life.

It’s heartening to hear them say they played well when Kings beat them, but truthfully there’s still a long way to go and some improving to be done on the part of this team.

    KC23 Reply:

@Duncanz, Agreed. Especially Brown. Brown has a ways to go yet, but he did look better (except that first goal which was all on Brown IMHO). Scudes and Richards also started to look closer to themselves.

Interesting Vancouver said they were going with Schnieder as the #1, but he starts with a 5+ GAA and all the sudden Luogo starts the last few games? They were trying to package Luogo, I wonder if he is actually going anywhere?

@luc20rules, Schneider played against the Sharks the night before so I think it was more of the ‘back-up’ playing the second of back-to-back games.

It’s clear that the refs are also rusty after a long summer and lockout.

    KC23 Reply:

@Gustavo, Agreed, but I give the Refs a pass because of some of the tough new rules that they have to deal with. Especially the hand on puck and the very tight interference calls against defensemen standing up at the blue line.
