Ryan Smyth Pre-Game Quotes

On seeing his former team win the Cup: “Obviously it was really nice to see…and nice to see for the organization itself.  The first time in franchise history…there’s a lot of great players over there and the team made a lot of great moves to push them over the top.  It was awesome to see.”

On keys to playing the Kings tonight: “Well, it will certainly be a good measuring stick for us.  They won it last year, so we need to use our depth.  We need good energy and good legs tonight.”

@Lake Forest, to add this isnt to be taken as disrespectful towards Smythe, he was a great front net presence player. Played hard and i think was good leadership for the young guys…..

….but he requested to be traded and in that case don’t let the door hit you in the, you know.

    DaveinSD Reply:

@Lake Forest, I take his request to be traded as a blessing, because in return we got Fraser and he became our 4th line center and did very well in the Cup Run last year. Including the Game 1 SCup Finals 1st goal!

@DaveinSD, total blessing. and the comment of mine that was deleted was, this gave us $6MM+ in more cap space….

@Lake Forest, I lost a lot of respect for Smythe when he pulled that. I still say he got busted by his wife with either Heidi or an Ice Girl. Anyway, I think his wife has thought he was Wayne Gretzky for a long time so it make sense.

    @Lake Forest,

Yup. Somehow he’s always in the position to be magnified his mistakes. Hockey gods hate him or what?

As hard as I try…this season is lacking for me…I will enjoy the games but the usually intensity is not there ……Winning this season is not the same as a regular season…dont care how you spin it.I will root hard but it doenst seem the same…Anyone else feel this way???

@neil, You are absolutely right. I had long given up on the season and was thinking baseball when they decided to end the lockout. It all seems disjointed.

@neil, What adds to that feeling is the Kings playing like..like they normally do. Once they start on a winning streak, I think the interest will come back.

@neil, Agreed, I was glad to go to home opener, see the banner raising and all but now its like, oh yea Kings are on TV. I feel very blah about hockey this year. Not enjoying or looking forward to watching other games either so it’s not just a SC hangover, I think its “Lock Out” hangover.

@neil, I’m with you. After that magical Cup run it’s hard to go back to the same old scoring woes and PP problems that were the regular season last year. Spoiled, I am, and I figure it will take me about 20 games to get over MY Cup hangover (which might coincide with the team’s time frame to get back to playing their best.)

Two bright notes that Ive enjoyed so far: the play of Clifford and of Doughty. DD actually looks like his Norris runner-up self again, and the Colonel might just be coming into his own (meaning a 7 goal season in 48 games, but that’d be gravy combined with his physical presence night after night.)

    GKG!

    Lake Forest Reply:

@neil, Not I. I am super pumped! I am waiting each day for a game. Something new, not sure how it’s going to end is better than watching reruns for 6 months! Win or Lose! And I believe we have a real chance at defending the Cup, so that makes it more exciting.

I still have a lot of resentment and will try my best not to support any NHL thing going on, aside from watching them on TV and commenting on here.!!

    Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com) Reply:

@neil, ‘spinning it’ isn’t the point. it’s a simple matter of perspective. from mine, it’s no more or less important a season than any other. everyone is on the same footing. the nhl used to play way fewer games and now they play way too many imo. regardless, there’s a trophy to be won and it’s won in the post-season.

I like to ask any opponent’s fan if they had a chance to watch and enjoy the opening day ceremony at Staples. Rub it in for all it’s worth.
I do wonder about St. Louis. My friend in Detroit says they looked good (0-6).

Reading Penner is a healthy scratch tonight. In all honesty, I thought Richards, J-dub and Brown were the worst players on the ice in Colorado. Aside from the terrible penalties, he did have some hustle. That said, I don’t have a problem with Pancakes riding some pine.

    MickSorley Reply:

@xeropoint, Agreed. And I almost commented on a post yesterday that was bashing Pens for his compete level. Honesty, the Dustin Penner I’ve seen so far this year looks a hell of a lot better than the regular season Penner of 2011-12. Sure he’s made some mistakes and some shifts have been better than others, but he looks a LOT better.
