Morning Notes

The Kings are scheduled for their morning skate at Rexall Place at 10:30 a.m. (PT).  Here’s a few notes to start the day:

-Don’t forget…There is now a 30-minute pre-game show prior to all games televised on Fox Sports West.  Tonight’s pre-game show starts at 6 p.m. (PT).

-The Kings are 6-1-1 in their last eight games vs. the Oilers (since 12-23-10)…The Kings are 7-0-1 in their last eight games in Edmonton (since 11-26-08).

-The last time the Kings started a season 0-2-0 was in 2008-09.

-The Kings have only started a season 0-3-0 twice in franchise history (1969-70 and 1985-86).  During the shortened 48-game season in 1994-95 the Kings started 0-2-1.

Let’s try not to make this the 3rd time in franchise history!

Keep the 1 rounders speeds under control and we should lock up this game! GKG.

  2. Also don’t forge this little-known fact…

When Charlton Heston said “From my cold dead hands” he was really referring to the Kings and the Stanley Cup.

Just need to hit people on the forecheck and take them out of their speed/skill game, create turnovers in their zone and then crash their net. GKG-AGAIN!!

Making a lil bit confession, here.

I mocked Yotes’s attendance last night but at the same time I was very sad. They went as deep as the western conference final last year but not to prevail. I don’t know much about those desert people but NHL’s success depends on their franchise.

By 2014, NFL’s TV contract will bring $240 million/team. NHL’s TV contract currently makes #6.67 million/team. Shocking, eh? And don’t forget that the national television deal is the most profitable income source to the NFL. If NHL wants their kind of success, they need those markets in south otherwise no national TV wants the deal.

Phoenix is the 11th biggest metropolitan area in US so it can be the big TV market. It all depends on how they manage the business over there. Their ownership situation is still unclear but I hope the best. And whoever becomes the owner, he must bring the best business strategy because it will be a huge challenge location-wise. IMHO, they need their own Bob Miller, their own Jim Fox and Lucky Luk to make fans believe that someday the day will come.

Believe me, I hate that team as much as you guys do but hey, we’ve got to look at the bigger picture. And let’s hope their success, and one day that the hockey will truly become the best sport in the world.

@goldielocks, I think the best move for the Yote’s is to move to Portland and play at the Rose Garden. The WHL Winterhawks attendance is in the 14-15 thousand in attendance on most nights and they are a minor league team. An NHL team would sell out every night

@goldielocks, Great post!! I do believe hockey is the best sport. Just watching last nights Rangers, Bruins game was awesome. I like it when it doesn’t matter who wins. It’s just plain good ole hockey. When the Kings play I’m nervous as all get out, and I want the Kings to get big leads and not see the other team score. This hasn’t happen yet, but I’m hoping tonight’s the night.

I do think that hockey in the desert will not work. I’m sorry, but if the fans don’t show up when the team is winning, they surely won’t show up when they are losing. I really don’t think there are many “die-Hard” Yotes fans. Sure if the team is in the playoffs they show up…Sort of. It’s time to move a few teams North. Like say Salt Lake. We had the 2002 games, the town loves the Jazz win or lose. Salt Lake has an excellent hockey arena in the Maverick Center. It would take time, but they would have a strong fan base here.

We all know that if teams like Phx, Dallas, Florida move, the best place for them would be Canada. Which would’nt be a bad idea. Those folks love the game of hockey. The players of this league deserve to play in front of large surpportive crowds. Think what it must feel like to go into a home game with just a handful of fans. Most of the seats EMPTY. Please move the teams of the NHL out of the South and into the North… And by the way whatever happen to the realignment the NHL was talking about doing??????????

    @goldielocks,

The most shocking thing is the NFL is so successful without a team in the #2 television market, LA.

I see us dropping another game or two before we are back in form – Total stanley cup hangover. Hurts having Mitchel and Greener out too, although the defense did not blow the game last time.

DB looks completely useless out there – its a hangover still.
