Willie Mitchell On His Status

“I had another good day.   It’s starting to feel more comfortable.  It’s been pretty good so far.  It swells up a little bit and goes back down, so i think that’s how it’s going to be probably the rest of the year…I’m just trying to get my conditioning to be honest with you.  I just want to get out there and not be a liability to my defense partner, my teammates, the coach.  When I come back I just don’t want to play a couple games and go out of the lineup.  The last few days has been good,  I’m getting a good idea of what it feels like and how it will respond.

it’s an interesting quote compared to what you see in football, particularly at qb. RG3 played when he really shouldn’t have been playing and as a result the blame tends to fall on his coach for putting a liability out there. In Willie’s case he’s almost holding himself out until he thinks he can be an asset. I’m not saying one if right, and one is wrong, it’s just a different mentality that it’s interesting to observe amongst different sports

@Shakes, I also think the timing during the season is different. If it was the end of the season and the kings were fighting for a playoff spot, I’d think you would see him out there or at least lobbying to play.

@BringBackKingston, Agreed, at this point in the season you have much more to lose if you aggravate the injury. In RG3′s case he got hurt maybe Cousins would have played better that game, but RG3 is lost for the no games. Where if Mitchell aggravates it he will be out for the year and will ruin the Kings whole season.

Godspeed Willie, but please don’t rush back until you’re ready. Give your knee a little more time to heal. We need you back in the lineup for the duration of the season, not just a few games.

You were without a doubt the defensive MVP of the Kings last year, especially in the Playoffs.

DO NOT hurry back, no matter what any of these people tell you. At your age, you know your body better than anyone else. Looking forward to your return, whenever that is
