Greetings From Edmonton

Good morning from Edmonton, where it’s definitely hockey weather outside.  The Kings will hit the ice today at around 1 p.m. (PT).   It’s a bit of an odd schedule though…The team will first head on over to Rexall Place (home of the Oilers) to dress in their gear, then bus over to another local facility to practice (which is about a 20-30 minute drive).  We’ll have more notes throughout the day, as the team gets seat to face the Oilers tomorrow.  In the meantime here is a picture from the team hotel (overlooking a portion of the downtown Edmonton area).

@lakingbob(chi), I’m okay with that ONLY cause I know he’s hungrier having to want impress on Sutter since he didn’t get to play on the SC Kings run.

Also, I have a feeling Gagne is also hungry to play as well as Clifford as you can already tell.

I appreciate the updates but I’d like to know who to thank…so weird not to have a name.

    [Reply]

    LA_1968 Reply:

@DLB, Perhaps the Kings don’t feel it’s necessary to put a name on it. The upside for the team is that we can’t be complaining to bring “Lakings.com” back if they get axed. On the other hand, having a person with a name is less personal and makes the experience less enjoyable. Besides, who is Foxie going to interview this way? A computer terminal?

You folks in So Cal got it good. 15 degrees here in smogville {Salt Lake City} It’s cold and the inversion sucks. Keeps the cold air and the smog locked into the valley. It’s like living in the inland empire, but only freezing cold. So count your blessings.

Kings just got outplayed in the last 20 minutes! Good to hear that Richards is wearing the A. Maybe his type of leadership will get us our first win. We need to have our forwards score more and get the Power Play going. Fix those things and life around here would be a bit better. Good to read some of the comments. Nothing like hearing all the words folks come up with. Here’s to a better outcome against the Oilers. Yet another lighting fast young team.

@King Charles of Salt Lake, Joseph Smith didn’t account for the smog when choosing Utah I guess. My recommendation: Head up to Park City! I love it there.

A lot have said it but I don’t think it can be said enough. Our PP needs to get on track, andour top two lines need to find the back of the net.
If I was sutter I would bench Penner and put Gagne back with his Philly buddies. On the PP I would have Doughty and Stoll on the point on one unit, with Voynov and Martinez on the other.

I’d almost like to say it’s the same ol’ Kings. But that would mean we would end up winning the cup, so it ain’t so bad!

Getting out played for 5 out of 6 periods and out scored 8-3 is a different story.

I finally get excited for hockey just to seem the team struggle. Let’s hope and pray it ends VS Oilers.

Except for the 4th line everybody and everything seems to be far from what we saw last June and HAS to get better. Of greatest concern is the goals against. Quite obviously this is not the same team without Mitchell. I think the best “message” DS can send to everyone Thursday is NOT to make any lineup changes. A lot of players are playing FAR from what they are capable of. Announce to them “Don’t look for Richardson or Bernier or Gagne or someone else to do it. YOU do it”.

  23. nykingfan says:

I think we’re starting to get a little dose of reality early in the season.
It’s not going to be easy making the playoffs, let alone winning the cup again. What we went thru from April to June was magical, but we can’t expect it to be that “easy” again.
Injuries have hit us hard so far. We’re going to find out about the depth of the Kings organization and how some of these kids have progressed.
The most interesting thing is the fact that we brought back the same team. This is unchartered territory because nobody before has won the cup and brought back every player the following season. will it work out? I hope so, but judging from 2 games(shame on me) I’m once again reminded of why I didn’t want Penner back. I understand DL’s thinking and the fact that he has him on a cheap 1 year deal, but this guy’s play during the regular season was shocking considering he was a UFA at the end of the year. Turning it on in the playoffs was a huge thing and a big reason why won the cup, but i tend to judge guys over a longer period of time, and the fact that he’s once again playing as if he doesn’t give a sh** is Dustin Penner’s way.
there are others as well.the play of Richards and Carter during the regular season. Without these guys turning it on for this sprint, we’re going to be on the outside looking in.

I’m not saying this is the way it will turn out, but I have questions about this years team.

    Go Kings!

  24. Barry's Mullet says:

Kings outplayed the Av’s for the first 40 min. had their chances and the PP let them down as it did last year. Av’s got two great bounces, got energized while the Kings ran out of gas.

First game with opening night ceremony, rings and banner it was very predictable the Hawks would come out hard and with the Kings minds on other things and got their ass kicked.

Second game was much better. JQ looked solid. DD looked solid. Young dmen played well. 4th line best line in both games. Top 3 lines need to get the rust out. Please sit Penner!

A guy I play with in the mornings, 5:15 am, dresses at home then drives 35 minutes to the rink. I always arrive and he is fully dressed in the concourse. He says it’s too damn cold to dress in the locker room. We live in Arizona for God’s sake and he’s from Pittsburg.
