Update From Kings Skate

Anze Kopitar will play tonight…confirmed by both Kopitar and Darryl Sutter.

Anthony Stewart cleared waivers, which means a probable assignment to Manchester.

Sutter said Matt Greene has a herniated disc.  The problem started over the summer for Greene.  Surgery is probable at this point.

Andrew Bodnarchuk skated with the team this morning.

Quotes from Sutter, Kopitar and more coming this afternoon.

    from yahoo:

What do they do to replace the alternate captain? The Kings recalled Andrew Bodnarchuk from Manchester in the short term, a player with five NHL games to his credit. So we watch and wait for GM Dean Lombardi to address this one; paging Chris Campoli? Maybe Sean O’Donnell can un-retire? Maybe they can call up Thomas Hick… er, scratch that.

@Lake Forest, I watched Bodnarchuk in Manchester. He can skate and is good with the puck. Size is a bit of an issue against many of the larger forwards in the league, but on a 3 line defensive paring he should be exposed that often. This guy can pass pretty well too.

@Lake Forest, We do not need another puck moving defenseman. I whould rather see Campbell. At 6’4 210lb stay at home guy. Plus he does have +12

Sounds like it is time for a Spine and Disc powerplay!!! Followed by a McDonalds Value Meal!! And some Chewy LemonHeads!! Then drive home in your Toyota!! After rubbing some Rocco’s tattoo balm on your new body art!! Which you got while drinking Budweiser!! Hoping your surgery is successful Greener because we need you on the ice.

The new guy at Staples isn’t close to David Courtney. We were really spoiled as Kings and Angels fans.

I’ll be DL thinks outside the box on this one. He’ll land a D-man that no one thinks will be moved.

@RobBordson, I think he is more likely to see what Muzzin, Bodnarchuk and DD2 can do. All 3 are likely to be better than anything DL could likely land in the short term.

@KC23, Agreed. If you trade for an experienced “stay at home” you’ve got a couple of problems. You have to give up something to get something. Now we can sit here and speculate that letting go of a Gagne or Loktionov would work but the problem is the OTHER team has to agree to it. Do they really want to give up solid defenseman for an unproven forward or even 2? Letting go of Bernier would be even worse, if Quick gets hurt are you really going to defend a cup with Martin Jones?

And IF Greene is back in as little as 6 weeks (granted its a big if) what do you do then? Now you’ve got your 6 defenseman from last years roster PLUS this new guy. You can’t play all 7 at once, and for that “advantage” you’ve weakened the team somewhere else.

I gotta trust DL on this one and I think he’ll just see how Muzzin, DD2, etc. hold up. They got scouted, drafted, signed and assigned to teams and taught things PRECISELY so they could be available when inevitable injuries occur. Lets give them a chance as you say. They DO have previous NHL experience.

    RobBordson Reply:

@HockeyNerd, I really hope that Muzzin steps up. I think he can be physical enough to step in for Greener. That would be the best scenario.

No offense to DD2. He’s solid, but doesn’t play as physical a game as Greener (but then few do.)

  9. Schlock says:

Frustrating after 8 months off for a player to require surgery after one game. Did Greener just keep his fingers crossed all summer?
