Final: Avs 3 – Kings 1

After two periods the Kings still lead Colorado 1-0.

Kyle Clifford gave the Kings a 1-0 lead 15:52 into the first period, as he connected with Jordan Nolan and Alec Martinez.  It was Clifford’s third point in two games (1-2=3).

Teams skated to a scoreless second period.  The Avalanche had a golden opportunity to tie it with a five-on-three power play for 1:30 late in the frame, but failed to capitalize.

The Avalanche finally solved Jonathan Quick and took a 2-1 lead with two goals in 1:35 early in the third period.  Gabriel Landeskog tied it one minute into the third and David Jones gave Colorado the lead with a power-play goal at 2:35.  PA Parenteau made it a 3-1 game at 8:16.

Power plays in the game:
Kings 0-for-6
Avalanche 1-for-4

The last time the Kings lost a regular season game when leading after two periods was April 2, 2009 at Phoenix.  The Kings went 86-0-9 in 95 games when leading after two during that stretch.

    Williams= over stick handles and puts progress offside
    Brown= terrible
    Penner= slow, lazy, needs bench time, I say Gags plays for him
    Richards= needs the A off of his chest,step up
    King= is he playing?
    Kopi= first game back
    Carter=more chances then Brown,Richards
    Stoll= ” shoots wide ”
    Marty= OK
    Voynov= Good
    DD2= playing the best D
    DD= good early but whats his minus these past 2 gms
    Scuds= thought he should have got the A but not after this game
    Nolan= A
    Frazz= A
    The Colonel= A+++++
    Muzz= first game
    Quick= not very good, stay in your net, he was playing out of his mind in the first but not good at all
    Davis Payne= Kompon
    Stevens = you need to work with the D some more
    Sutter= some ass chewing.

    @goldielocks,

    How many times did you see Richards putting the pressure along the board and behind the net? He does it so well usually but not in this game or the last one. He was losing his balance easily and fell down. You are expecting someone to cover that area but when you realize it doesn’t happen you have to go in that area with already one step behind. That’s how the unit works.

    crashin'da net Reply:

    @goldielocks,

    Pens goes behind the net quite often and he should. He’s got a big body. Only last season O’Shee took that body out. He needs to play responsibly wherever he his. Two penalties like that is bad news any way you look at it.

    First thing is set the forward lines back to the Start of the Finals.
    Brown – Kopi – Williams
    Penner/Gagne – Richards – Carter
    King – Stoll – Lewis
    Clifford – Fraser – Nolan

    On D They really need to manage minutes. On the PP maybe have Stoll play point on PP2 and Richards point on PP2. The DD2 – Muzzin pair should be on 5 on 5 for maybe about 12 mins DD2 some mins on PK. I don’t think DD is in condition at this time to play 30 mins/gm and this 3rd period showed that. The 4th Forward Line is playing great so let them play 15 mins/game roll 5 on 5 mins evenly then play the skilled players on PP & PK. This should help relieve the burden on the top D spots.

    As winded as the players looked in the 3rd I don’t think a bag skate would do anything, but cause 3 or 4 losses in a row.

    @luc20rules, MR sits the next one out or until he learns to move and stay on his feet…just a dismal performance

    @luc20rules, get Stoll off of the PP! It’s a waste when he’s manning the point and when he’s not, he still wanders out of position and ends up getting halfway between the point and the top of the circles… ugh and his shot is even more wide than it was last year, if that’s even possible.

    @Stuart, he would be fine if he could hit the net or have a purpose with his shot other than high and wide and out of the zone

    @g smith86, hence why is said he needs to get off the PP! lol

    Painfull to watch. When your top scorer is Clifford you know that your team is in trouble. Our top 6 forwards- terrible. All of them! But most of all, I did see desire, passion and power. Looks like they satisfied with their dimonds rings, at least for now…. But with a short season, there are no time to “wake up”. I would not be surprised if Kings will miss playoffs this year. Hopefully, Sutter will give them good kick in their butts and return them from cloud 9 to earth…

    @Mike V., that is a very unfair statement about Clifford, is it his fault the rest are playing terrible, and to suggest because a 4th liner is having success the kings are in trouble…….

    Really………….you likely beleive KC’s good start is the reason the kings are loosing??

    @harty, No. What I ment is when your 4th line is the best line for 2 strait games, something wrong with top 6 forwards. 2 games-0 goals.. and not so many chances. Do I have to say more?! I think the reason our 4th line is the best so far, is because they know they have to work hard to get their plaing time. And because they know that they not so talented as top 6, so they have to substitute it with more passion, more phisical plays. That what we don’t see so far from top 6 so far-passion, aggresivness, desire. talent is great, but you can’t go far in any sports just on talent alone. And that what Kings showed us last year. This year…time will tell..And I’m so happy for Cliffrd. Time for others to wake up.

    Well it was good posting with some of the regulars and some of the newbies, I miss our leader Mr. Hammond, Ill read his take tomorrow in the OC Reg, it sucks that the quacks are ahead of us, actually there are quite a few of our rivals ahead or us. This team needs to take off their rings and get back to playing the way that they did when they earned them. Only 46 games to go, they need to pull their heads out of their collective culo’s. Night all, see you Thursday.

    Dear Stanley Cup Champions, You have my blessing this season to play however you want and obtain whatever record you want as long as you make the playoffs. I do not want to listen to those “people” on NBC or ESPN or NHL Tonight utter the words “fluke”, “hangover”, or “one hit wonder” all season. I know its a short season and the playoffs will soon be with us, just get in and all will be fine. You are the most talented team in the league. Oh, and Mr. Penner? You go ahead and keep playing the same way you did at the beginning of last season because all I remember about your season last year was you doing the “Penner Knickle” in front of that goon Mike Smith in the Conference Finals after scoring the series clinching goal in OT. Go Kings Go. TiredOfIt out.

    I’m not worried. It’s only two games. Just need our top six to wake up and we will be in good shape.

    I am not sure what Sutter’s infatuation is with Nolan. He ruins every cycle the fourth line gets going and looks slow. Sure, he is a big kid but that is about it. I think he needs a little more seasoning in AHL. It it wasn’t for Clifford player big time hockey, the fourth line would be pointless. Also, I don’t want to see Clifford fight until he learns some defense. This kid is too good to be risking injury again with his wild fighting technique.

    Penner is back to his old lazy ways. This guy better lay off wifey’s pancakes. So frustrating to watch him when he does this.

    I was glad to see Gagne get scratched last game. He is not the same player he was 5-7 years ago and I doubt he ever will be. No pop in his game. He looks tired and slow which is dragging down the line he is on.

    I would like to Richardson in lineup for his skating and energy. Two years ago when Vancouver beat us in the first round, he was the best Kings player. Give him a chance instead of bouncing him around to every different line. Edmonton’s young guys can really move. Richie is more suited to this type of game.

    I thought the Kings dumped Jamie Kompon, the PP was going to get better????

    0 -6, pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!

    Only 2 games, so no time to panic, but they’d better get a win in the next two games, or this could get ugly quickly…
