Darryl Sutter
(on Kopitar’s line): “The line had a really tough night…Had tough time two games in a row”
(on fourth line): “We’re working backwards, I mentioned that the other day. Fraser’s line has been the best, then Stoll’s, then Richards, then Kopitar’s tonight. The kids on the back end were really good tonight and Jonathan [Quick] was a lot better. But we need our top forwards to be a lot better.”
Darryl, some are lazy and slow with no fire in their belly, imagine if they were making the 680k like those on the 4th line…..no there making millions………some guys are not worth the payment Darryl

@harty, i think that the Richards line was waaay worse than the Kopi line… 2 goal a result of Penner returning to his nromal form…. WHERE IS BROWNIE? Hardly heard his name tonight… Zero physical play, zero scoring chances…. Too many cameos not enough practicing?

Do the top 6 Forward understand the concept of each team having 2 buyout at no cost to the cap?
Its really early, and I am not going to point anyone out at this time. This is now a 46 game season and we are on the outside looking in. Game 12 is when I will start re-evaluating our chances.

@luc20rules, Really? It’s only 2 games into a season where instead of a normal 3 week training camp and preseason games to get in shape and ready, they got 5 practices. What did yo expect would happen? They’re not bionic. The only way to shake off the rust is to play their way thru it. They were better tonight then on Sat. and will be better on Thursday. There is no easy fix, you have to push your way thru it, do to no training camp. And that top 6 you’re critizing were largely responsible for that silver Cup.

@Deirdre, I agree with most of what you said but bottom line is that with only in-conference games someone is dropping and someone is climbing every game. We don’t have very long to get it in gear. Coach Sutter is calling them out. Good, good, good. No time to waste.

@Deirdre, Relax I didn’t name names, because of the reasons you stated. But we don’t have a ton of time to get things going. The Kings should not be out of shape, and aren’t other teams dealing with the same issues. We should be better having the same players and system in place. Thats all I am saying. This team just having won should realize even now that there is a window of opportunity to win as many cups as possible with this core of players. I did say I wouldn’t reevaluate the Kings chances until game 12. By your analysis Edm and the rest of the NHL will also be better on Thurs. Your absolutely right about the top 6 and for that matter the entire team being responsible for winning the cup, but if anyone of them is satisfied with just that one cup. I am not sure I want them on the team going forward. Its my sense that DL can see that in a player. You can see that in contract lengths he awards players, although some of it may be cap related.

I think its the small things that tell us more than just what the results do. I was sitting in my seat watching intently during warm-ups at the home opener, and I noticed that every king had left the ice, while 4-5 hawks were still skating/shooting in their own end. Now that might not sound like a big deal to most of you, but 2 of the 5 players still out on the ice for the hawks accounted for 3 of the 5 goals that Chicago scored against us in that game. We obviously have a group of players on this team that have proven they have what it takes to win, and I think they will come back down to reality soon after their cup high wears off, but I also feel that Coach Sutter needs to start thinking about putting a few of our top guys in check before this starts getting out-of-hand.

@luc20rules, Our defense is different and the old lines just got put back together last night! Of course Sutter is right to point out the top six needs to get better, but it is not time for talking buyouts.

@Deirdre, The “Fact” is the team is missing Key defense and well stupid penalties cost the Kings once again I dont blame quick or the fourth line at all but goal scores arent scoring and the D is not looking like what quick is used to!!!!!!!!!! IMHO its just going to take sutter to figure out this mess and get back on track!

@California Royalty, Wasn’t thinking about doing anything, but at around game 12 as originally posted its got to be time to look at who is playing hard and focused on the team’s goals. No buyouts until the summer in my opinion, but why I mentioned it was if a player(s) are content with last years cup, and don’t focus on defending it. I’m not to sure DL will keep them remember he is big on that culture of winning thing. My hope is that things turn around and they start playing like the end of last year, but lets face it the opponents this year have out worked us. Even when we were playing poorly last year it was rarely because we got out worked. I guess I just disheartened that the teams energy level hasn’t been what the 2nd half of the season and playoffs had me used to.

They were doing fine until they started running around in their own zone in the third. I’m thinking they can deal with Greene OR Mitchell, being out but both is a bit too much. I’m guessing Mitchell won’t be back soon and we’re stuck with the current combo.

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, Mitchell skated with the team in practice with some contact so its probably about 1 week away. Your right about the D not being ok with both out, but then do we need to bring in an insurance policy stay at home D man? We know Greene is likely gone for the season. I also put alot of responsiblity on the Cs they should be playing more between the circles to help out the young D.
I suppose we could hope that the D prospects develops in time.

@luc20rules, I think you’re right. Keep Muzzin around because someone else is going to go down at some point after Mitchell comes back…that and I remember last time Mitchell was out was a losing skid. He could be the Kings’ most valuable player, next to Quick. Makes you think about the future. I’d like to see that guy be Dewey, but the way he’s played since the playoffs started last season has been heartening.

@luc20rules, Dewey was driving me nuts tonight! I can’t stand his hesitation to shoot the puck on the PP when he has a wide-open shot in the center slot. Especially, for being a player who was once a finalist for the Norris. Sooner or later those blocked shots will lead to turnovers, which then, eventually lead to out-numbered attacks and short-handed goals. It seems like there’s always been this history of defaulting back to playing with timidity when the rest of the team plays sub-par in front of him.
Obviously we were only a Cup Contender with Westgarth

Gotta love a coach that does not mince or sugar coat words, tells it like he sees it and is capable of finding solutions. DS will find the way, and if any of the players do not buy into it or cannot physically perform, they’ll be out. Plain and simple.
I’m glad Gagne got to sit this one out. It helped me see there is rust and lack of focus elsewhere. Compared to the 4th line kids, the top two lines played the 3rd period as if they had already won the game. IN DS we trust.

Game two of the season. This is no time t panic and if you look around the league there are a lot of good teams that have started just as bad. The whole league had only one week to get things going so this is not really a valid excuse for me, but I do understand that some teams had multiple players plating hockey elsewhere. Like another poster said I will look at where we are at roughly the 12 game mark to see where we are at. I am predicting that we will be 7-5, I would even be ok with a 500 mark but we just need to our scoring touch back. We may need to look for a solid D man but it will depend on when Wilie will return.
I am very happy we won the cup, but that was last year; I want another cup this year.
