Anze Kopitar Post-Game Quotes

On his knee:  “The knee feels good.  I didn’t have any problems with it.  I pretty much forgot I was wearing [a brace] out there.”

On losing the lead in the third period: “There’s no secret to it.  We didn’t play well in the third.  We made some mistakes and turnovers that cost us.  We played a solid first 40, but then for some reason after that wasn’t our team…and mistakes are going to cost you.”

    What's the frequency, Kenneth? Reply:

    @LA_1968, I keep hearing how being out of shape and not having a preseason is supposed to be some kind of excuse. Everyone else is playing under the same conditions. I mean, really, I’m kinda PO’d, and I’ve been trying to hold it down. This team really has no excuse not to play like it did down the stretch and in the playoffs, with the exception of Kopi getting some time to work out the kinks and the young defensemen needing some help getting situated. I’m not inclined to panic, but these two losses were VERY atypical, going back YEARS. They simply didn’t have too many games where they gave up two or three goal leads, and when they took a lead into the third period, they literally never failed to get points, for like, two seasons. I don’t think it’s too late to have a team meeting to address the seriousness of the situation. The losses don’t bug me–the MODE of the losses does.

    LA_1968 Reply:

    @What’s the frequency, Kenneth?,

    If the guys are more out of shape than other teams, then it’s on the players. Three was no time for the staff to correct that. I think that’s what we’re seeing. It also shows in their inaccurate passing. Not off by a little but a 20 ft pass off by 10 feet.

    Their satisfaction with the Cup probably left them less motivated to work out and on their game than other teams.

    I have faith that Coach Sutter can get them going. Nevertheless 0-3-0 this year is like 0-5-0 because your playing just over half the games and all games are in conference.

    Penner is grabbing a lot of the blame tonight, but I think Kopitar had a really bad shift that led to the Landeskog goal, and which turned the game around. First, he lost the puck trying to leave the zone. That led to a long shift in their own end. When he got control, Kopitar tried to flip it down the ice but couldn’t clear past the defense. Then, when the Avs got a shot off that missed wide and rebounded, he was standing totally still as Landeskog banged in the rebound. It was probably one of the worst shifts I’ve seen him play in a long time.

    Yeah, Penner’s penalties and giveaway in his own end are worthy of a benching, but let’s not pretend he was the sole reason they lost.

    luc20rules Reply:

    @KingMe20, I just finished watching the re-broadcast and It wasn’t Quick a perfect shot and 2 unfortunate bounces that moved the puck quickly from behind the net and one side to the other. Last year a dman or center would have been taking the body or tying up the stick of the shooter that was completly wide open untouched to make for an easy shot. We do need to look at Penner though with Mitchell & Greene out our PK is vulnerable we can’t afford to take any penalties that are not stopping a cleaar scoring opportunity.

    That was a game of 2 halves.
    1st period and for half of the 2nd the Kings were working hard and getting opportunities, just not burying them. After that it went all downhill from there.
    Certainly no time to panic..no matter what the “experts” tell you.
    Perhaps the worst game Kopi’s played as King. He was really off his game. 1st game back off injury, but the guy played all through the lockout, so not really an excuse.
    As was mentioned above, you can’t blame Penner for the loss, but that doesn’t excuse the poor play again.
    This is Dustin Penner..he can be an effective winger or he can suck the life out the ice. Last night he was an embarrassment. Good job by DS benching his ass as well as Richards in the 3rd. If he didn’t bench Richards, then he was invisible.

    On the positive side, a really good game by DD2..I’m not a huge fan of his, but his play especially on the 5 on 3 PK was outstanding.
    I thought Muzzin did well as did the whole D. the 4th line can’t be your best line every night.

    Giving up 3 goals is expected without Greene and Mitchell in the lineup, but only scoring one, and from the 4th line is pretty bad. The top 2 lines generated very few scoring chances, i say just put the 4th line out on the PP now since the other guys are not getting it done.

    It seems as if we are in a disagreement. No one is in panic mode! Really, Really!! Just like last year we can’t find the back of the net. I believe that no team can beat us in a 7 game series, but in these 1 game move on to the next team… regular season type games. We can be beat. Aves team speed beat us in the last 20 minutes. It’s as simple as that. Clifford’s open break away shot went high. Game over. Still, we have a winning club and we will win our next game. See you guys Thrusday night. I’m out!!!

    [Reply]

    IceGuy Reply:

    @King Charles of Salt Lake,
    Charles, the floodgates opened with Kopi’s lame lob to clear the puck. You could tell things were bad – too much Avs cycling on one shift. I’m not blaming him, but it was an unforced error which cost us badly. And, from what I saw, that first goal went in off Scuds’ skate – it happens. The second ricochet goal was on Doughty. He crossed centerline and did not watch the back door.

    I think the young defense did OK in the game, which is a good sign. AMart, Vovnov and even Muzzin stepped up. DD2 was solid during the 5 on 3, but we can’t slip into depending on Quick winning 1-0 and 2-1 games. The Forwards need to get going. Fraser’s line can’t be the best on the ice for us and we expect a win.

    [Reply]

    DesertKing Reply:

    @Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com),

    I think the “failure” of the PP is linked to the failure of the top 3 lines to score, which is linked to what you said above – conditioning, rusty and only 2 “preseason” games so far. If we were the only team looking like this, then I would be worried, but many other quality NHL teams look as bad or worse than we do so far, which is why I think we need to have a little patience. This team is built for the playoffs. They peaked last year as they were going into the post season and ran the table, as designed. We just have to be #8 or above and with 46 games left, we should be able to do it.

    The high tip with Voynov is not even close to working right now. That’s going to take a lot more timing and precision.
    We(fans)blamed Kompon for everything that was wrong with the PP. He certainly didn’t deserve to be re-signed, but in the end it’s up to the players to finish. As we’re seeing now, no coach will look good when guys cant bury golden opportunities.

    @nykingfan, I agree that the puck movement has looked really good, but the problem with that is that the movement has been around the perimeter or point-to-point, basically where the defernders are not becuase it is a very low scoring percentagae from those places. Its time to crash the net more on the power plays, enough with Kopi on the halfwall playing catch back and forth and start taking to the hard areas…
