The Kings landed in Denver earlier this afternoon as they get set to take on the Colorado Avalanche tomorrow. It’s the Av’s Home Opener tomorrow, as they began the season Saturday with a loss in Minnesota.
The Kings have been somewhat streaky against the Avalanche lately…They lost all four meetings to their Northwest Division rival last year (0-3-1)…But before that LA went 8-0-1 vs. the Avs (Jan. 21, 2009 to March 26, 2011).
We’ll have more notes from tomorrow’s morning skate at the Pepsi Center, which is slated to start at 10:30 a.m. (PT).
A little adversity to start the season with the injuries. Let see what the boys are made of, great opportunity for a young guy like Muzzin to step up and show he wants to stay with the big club.

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com), Very true Paul, but during the last playoff run we had the good fortune of not having key injuries. I know they have the heart of a champion especially with Sutter guiding the ship, just going to be interesting to see how the players handle it and see who steps up and fills the void.

Now we get to see that great depth we have on the farm, with Greener out for the duration. He was a huge factor on the blue line last yesr. Who is hungry??
A Bernier trade this season would be a huge mistake. With the condensed schedule, he should get more starts this year than last. Give him at least 18 games and let him show what he can do. Then we can get whatever we want for him next summer.

Be interesting to see what DL does or doesn’t do. It’s really a matter of how much longer Mitchell is expected to be out. We have some assets that DL MIGHT use: Gagne or Lokti perhaps. The problem is I don’t think they’d fetch very much. Both have a lot to prove in terms of being what he once was (Gagne) or ever being anything (Lokti). Trading virtually anyone else would be tantamount to panicking and making a solution far worse than the problem. Bernier? I’m sure DL will listen to offers but there are a lot of problems with that: you’d still need a backup, we aren’t yet certain Quick is 100% and we’d be expecting a lot in return for someone who has never been a starter and has limited NHL experience. I’d REALLY like to know how long until Mitchell is ready. If its very soon maybe we just make do with what we have. You could do a lot worse than Doughty, Voynov, Martinez and Scuderi.
[Reply]
Is the person who wrote this article really sitting in a hotel room somewhere in Colorado saying to his or herself “I am lakings.com”? Also, I had a hard time reading through all the panic in the last thread. Trade talk and were only what? 1 game in. 47 more regular games and I can already tell it’s gonna be a loooong, long season.

Well, when you consider the following:
1. Greene is out for the season
2. Bernier wants to be #1 elsewhere
3. Mitchell is out till who knows when.
4. No AHLers in Manchester anywhere close to being able to assume D shutdown and PK duties.
5. A good dose of sarcastic exaggeration.
6. Gagne has been next to useless since he came back from his concussion.
It all points towards the trading wires.

HockeyNerd Reply:

@GUSTAVO,
1. We don’t know that for sure yet.
2. Irrelevant. DL will do what’s best for the Kings, not Bernier.
3. Possibly not much longer.
4. Drewiske and Muzzin both have NHL experience. That may be enough.
5. Always the case around here. Nothing new.
6. All of 5 games so far. Cut him so slack. Besides if you ARE right than what could we really get for him? I think other GMs read scouting reports too.
7. It wouldn’t surprise me if DL does something, and I’m sure he’s talking to other GM’s but it also wouldn’t surprise me if he decides to make do with what we have right now either.

I’ve read that disc surgeries are quite complicated so who knows.
