@DesertKing,
Spock: This is not logical, Captain Kirk. While my knowledge of your earth’s “Hockey” is limited, I do recall the 2013-2013 season was lost due to a phenemenon known as a “lock out”. Unless….
Kirk: Yes, Mister Spock. Somehow our appearance here has caused the timeline to change.
Spock: I see here that the Kings won the cup last June. That is also not logical.
Kirk: We must recreate this “lockout”. Scotty, immediately transport Bettman to these coordinates.
Spock: No, you do not understand. Bettman historically wanted nothing more than to shut the sport down while he collected his 8 million a year salary. Somehow it will be — or — was — his DISAPPEARANCE which prevented the lockout from occurring.
Kirk: So was it our transporting him that changed the timeline? Spock, it’s hard to understand what to do here. Obviously our next action could have — or already had — grave repercussions to this ancient earth pastime.
Spock: To squabble over millions of dollars while so many of your ancestors are in this state called “unemployment” is most illogical.
Kirk: Any comment Dr. McCoy?
Spock: Damnit Jim, I’m a doctor not an arbiter!
Uhura: Captain, I’m receiving a communication from someone who is identifying himself as “poor man”. He is urging us to Kidnap Bettman and change history so that an individual known as “Bernier” will “start in Goal for the Kings”.
Kirk: Recommendations, Spock?
Spock: Most illogical behavior from someone who claims to be a Kings fan. Suggest opening a channel to an individual known as “Rich Hammond”. Although no longer a member of this Kings organization he will be able to properly brief us on what has happened.
Kirk. Very well then. Uhura, patch me in….

@Lake Forest, Did Bettman or Fehr Die? Or an arbitaror brought in?
[Reply]
What should happen next.
NHLPA submits new offer to Bettman/NHL.
1.Grandfathered UFA at 28/8 years as pro, for players drafted after 2013 or undrafted then initially turns pro after 2013 draft.
2.No contract length limit, but will accept the 5% max change per year from year to year within the contract length.
3.Make whole provision owners must cover any shortfall from 1.883 Bil last year 57% of HRR to 50% of the HRR of future new CBA years.
If this is unacceptable to the NHL then the price of item 1 is to immediate UFA 28/8 years as pro is 1.5% of HRR. The Price of 5 year contract limit is 0.5% HRR. The price of no Make Whole Provision is 3% HRR.
Example: NHL can have UFA 28/8 years pro, Max 5 year contract term & max 5% change in year to year salary, and no Make Whole Provision. But this also means the HRR split is players 55% and Owners 45%.
If the NHL/Bettman protests. Well remind them that the NHLPA gave up on 2% HRR, Make Whole Provision, & all contracting issues, so here is where the compromise is then.
If nothing we have said here today is acceptable then we need to get an arbitrator! Good Day Sir!

@luc20rules, Next Day: Ring, Ring! Hello NHLPA offices. Oh Mr Bettman have you made a list of available arbitrators?
Bettman: “No”
NHLPA Receptionist: “Well Mr Fehr will not be taking any calls or meetings until you have made such a list. Have a good day. Dial Tone.”
Bettman talking to self: “Boy, the last 6 years of planning this lockout and none of the simulations had the NHLPA not caving in this long? I really don’t know what to do now? I mean I have never ever actually tried to negotiate, and really I don’t even know how!”

@luc20rules, Actually the NHLPA could throw in another bonus for the NHL. Just for this year the NHL could have games on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years day, and Easter. Of course it should be set up so the teams playing are both local so players could still be with family. Anh vs LA, any two of (NYR/NJ/NYI/Phil/Bos), Phil vs Pitt, Det vs Tor, ect. Cancel the All Star game and expand schedule thru May 12th to get as many Reg. Season games as possible. Playoffs start on May 15th (seeds 1,2,7, &
and May 16th(seeds 3,4,5, & 6), and are setup with no series to last more than 11 days(which starts from each round) and 2 days between series assuming 7 game series. Assuming the finals go 7 games it would end on June 30, 2013. Heck if they really wanted to they could have the All Star Game and Skills Comp after the season is over and work it around the NHL Awards Show in Vegas.

Okay … I guess I’ve been misinformed by the media. PA demanded the players be paid their full salaries for this season … wasn’t true. PA is actually expecting pay to be prorated for this season. This information changes a whole dynamics.

@goldielocks, Well here is the Concession Scorecard from the last CBA then:
NHL: 70 mil to profit share, but really thats owners paying other owners so does it count?
Make Whole Provision of 211 mil, but again this is money players are conceding by giving up 7% of HRR over the first 2 years and the NHLPA thinks it should be 600 mil so is it really a concession?
NHLPA: 7% of HRR (maybe not for first 2 years in part or full based on Make Whole Provision).
What Remains to be negotiated or apperently not negotiated and ultimatumed.
1. changes to make whole provision.
2. changing UFA 27/7 years pro to 28/8 years as pro.
3. imposing a cntract length maxed at 5 years, and imposing max 5% change in pay year to year within a contract.
They have been stuck here more or less since mid Oct. Time for an abitrator. I doubt that will happen though because for Bettman that would be a step toward negotiation.
