You should just post the articles here, instead of linking to a website owned by the NHL who is going to acquire revenue from advertisers based on the amount of “clicks” this article generates.
That revenue will be turned into more money to fuel the lock-out and pay the powers that be.

This PR war is ridiculious how they think the Fans will back one side or the other and not hold both accountable to some extent is crazy. I likely would be more likely to stop going to games if I just thought the players were greedy and didn’t care about the game. The owners are part of the 0.5% that own everything and exploit everyone anyway, so basically been part of the faceless evil from the start of civilization. They don’t make their money by owning an NHL franchise and can shut things down indefinately, but you say they can’t make money that way. They have other revenue streams and the NHL is a small part of the business interests of the owners anyway. They intend to break the players driven by ego related principle that they are the elite and not to be triffled with.

At this point, I don’t know if Rich would want to return, but the Kings have a real option available to them, if they wish, to keep both Rich & themselves happy.
They could create a trust, with a well-trusted non-employee as the trustee (Dione? McSorley? Lappy?). Fund the trust with a few million, then gift this domain to the trust, which can then hire Hammond to run the site. The Kings can continue to give him the kind of access they did before, if they wish to do so. Hammond gets to do what he’s always done, he’s no longer a direct Kings employee, and the website is no longer under their direct control – so the league has no say about it. They probably should have thought about doing something like this in the 1st place, if they wanted to assure him journalistic freedom.

Please take no offense at what you might read here. What we have read is that Rich quit because the NHL wouldn’t let him interview players during the lockout as a Kings employee, destroying his journalist independence. Went to the Ontario Reign opener they got thumped by the Stockton Thunder 4-0. Berube played in net looked ok, but the Reign squad played the night before and looked off their game and were just a smaller club. Mark Hardy is going to have his hands full teaching this group defense. It looked like half the players weren’t with the team last year, but that maybe normal with the ECHL with the better players getting a chance at the AHL. After having Kings season tickets watching the playoff run & playoffs, I suppose any team would look smaller.
Come on NHL if you don’t get things fixed and soon.

@luc20rules, You would think they would be better. The Reign had 17 guys signed going into training camp. No one from the professional tryout contracts or the guys from the open tryout made the club. I was hoping one or two more local guys would make the team, but practically no one ever makes it in Jrs or the minors from a tryout.
As for size and if it matters, you take a college team like Omaha Nebraska. All of there defenseman are 6-3 or taller.

The size I was refering to was they had 2 players under 170 lbs, 4 more under 185 lbs and a total of 8 under 190 lbs. From your comment they must all be Forwards. I believe the Kings line up at the end of Finals had just 2 players less than 190 lbs and both were over 185 lbs.

@luc20rules, That is interesting about the size of the Kings players. While attending a USA Hockey function over the Summer and listening to a Q&A w/ Florida Panthers asst GM Michael Santos, he spoke of the size of today’s players. His comment was that smaller players may have a better shot making it in the NHL if they are a 5-9 little guy rather than being 6 feet tall. The little guys are harder to hit.
Having written that, as I am sure you know, if you are smaller you are going to get pushed off the puck.
If the strike continues, we will go to a Reign game at somepoint. We are so invested in youth hockey that we can spend our money plenty of other places if there is no season. It sure would suck though.
I am already starting to like this site more. Hopefully we get an insider that knows something about the game and how it is played (sorry Hammond fans, he was clueless).

Here is my thought on it (as the writer of the article made an effort to take the pressure off of Bettman and thus some blame).
I dissagree. Bettman should be imposing fines on both sides until they reached an agreement.
Instead he imposes worthless fines on those who don’t deserve it, and doesn’t punish or fine those who do (Clowe anybody?).
He needs to grow a pair. But I know he won’t, he’s not built like that, and should be fired.

Thanks Alex. Excellent piece. After any of you read the article, take a look at this thread: http://lakingsinsider.com/2012/10/10/farewell-and-thank-you/#comment-1750183
It dovetails nicely into our own little version of the ‘polarization’ of Bettman. The article does a good job of outlining Bettman’s role as commissioner but it isn’t definitive in terms of what exactly his powers are, which has always been the point at which I pause and ask myself, ‘who is really calling the shots?’ in a particular case, whether it be the current lockout or Rich’s interview brouhaha or any number of other controversial decisions (or non-decisions).
While the article leaves us uncertain, it does give levelheaded fans a glimpse into the world of Gary Bettman, which is far more gray and far less black and white than most fans want to admit. The way I look at Bettman is not with any sympathy whatsoever but as a man who is paid (and paid very handsomely) to be hated, which makes me wonder how many of his detractors (me included) would take that job knowing the end result would be much the same for you.

No disrespect to Daryl Evans who is a class act, radio color commentator for the Los Angeles Kings, and forever protagonist of the Miracle on Manchester. For those who haven’t had the privilege to meet him around the rink or on the ice, he’s also a tremendous person and perhaps one of the most generous skating coaches. He’s a down to earth guy who was very generous with his time whenever you ran into him at the facility.
That being said Kings fans who read this blog will suffer with Rich Hammond’s departure. I’m glad he took a stance and chose to pursue a more journalistic venue to practice his craft, distancing himself from the politics of these so called negotiations that have so far delayed this season.

Can’t say enough about how much I respect Daryl.
I will miss Rich as well, but will give those that run the site a fair chance. I really don’t know what to expect especially during the lockout. No NHL player interviews, no hockey outside the AHL, College & ECHL. I am guessing they can interview those players, but don’t know for sure. Guys like Nolan, Loki, & Voynov will likely be invited to training/preseason if the NHL starts, so all players with 2 way contracts maybe off limits.

Complaining and talking of conspiracies and more well deserved anti-bettman talk
Damn I miss Kings hockey

I said the share should be started with 50/50 and go from there before the lockout happened. What took it so long?

@goldielocks,
If PA accept the deal, suddenly Bettman becomes a savior of hockey? Wow … he’s winning the PR war.

@goldielocks, I don’t think that is necessarily true. In my opinion, it takes two to dance, which means both parties are to blame.
AKA – I want to punch Fehr as much as I want to punch Bettman.
That feeling will not change once this lockout ends.
but again like any dispute, this is about 2 parties on opposite ends trying to meet in the middle.

@Lake Forest,
NHL tables 50-50 revenue proposal
CFRA News staff
Tuesday, October 16, 2012
The NHL has tabled a new offer to the NHL Players’ Association that proposes a 50-50 split of hockey-related revenue this season and a full 82-game season that would begin Nov. 2.
Reports say the NHL Players’ Association is calling the league’s latest proposal a “good start” but have not responded officially to the offer.
The NHLPA is set to hold a 5p.m. conference call to discuss the offer that, if ratified, could bring an end to the lockout which has lasted over a month.
Gary Bettman says the proposal was made “in the spirit of getting a deal done.”

@Lake Forest, Please, please, please let there be a full season! And LA KINGS, please, please, please hire a real reporter to take over this blog. There are plenty of fan sites. I want authoritative, impartial and speedy reporting.

The NHLPA is not signing off on this deal the way it’s presently constructed..Fehr said as much when he said it’s an outstanding starting point.
Is Bettman willing to negotiate further after receiving a counter-proposal from the players?
If this is a drop dead thing, it’ll will pretty much condlude the season.
You never know with Bettman and the owners. I’m still hesitant to get excited over it.

@nykingfan, Now the pressure is put back on the NHLPA to agree to this offer to save the season. Otherwise the NHPA will be blamed if a deal is not worked out to save the season. If I were Donald Fehr I would tell players to accept this offer and not risk the season being cancelled due to a failure to reach an agreement. If the NHLPA rejects this offer from the NHL they would guarantee that there is no hockey in 2012-2013 and perhaps beyond. Players must analyze this offer as a sign of the owners not wanting to lose a labor strife and sign off on this deal.

well the NHL has a pretty good proposal on the table, if the PA doesnt take/accept it, then they need to rot in hell lol. i really dont like fehr comment ” offer is an excellent start”, are you serious? is this guy retarted?

@gmo, well its a start of a deal….what if year 2…3…4…5 are 47 .53???? I was excited when I read the 50 50….then reality set in….What is the rest of the offer??? It looks like a starting point but not a finishing point.I like the deadline of Nov. 2nd.(to start the season) That puts some urgency into it….

@gmo,
The thing is that I don’t think he’s talking about the revenue split, necessarily. I think there are a lot of other points that they might not be fully happy with and they still have to negotiate. It’s a start towards productive negotiations. and goldielocks is right, this is exactly the PR battle Bettman wants to win and it looks like he’s doing a good job of it if people are starting to turn. All the pressure is on the PA now.

@FiG17, There is no time to renegotiate on this deal if the season is to start on November 2nd. Either the NHLPA agrees to this proposal or the season is cancelled by the NHL. It is as simple as that. The NHLPA has risked the season by not agreeing to work on a new CBA until after the Stanley Cup Finals.

I hope whatever cut the players have to take is equally cut from Bettman’s salary, afterall, the owners are trying to cut costs and he is a league employee.

Question is what type of a goaltender is Jones? Does he handle the puck well outside the goalie crease like Johnathon Bernier; can he be a “third defenseman” like Smith or Brouder? Actually, these guys are a liability come play-offs when handling the puck.
