The 52 (plus one) on the Cup

It’s official… The Kings are on the Stanley Cup. Here’s the first photo, as provided by the Kings. Interesting note…the Kings initially submitted a list of 52 names, which is said to be the maximum allowed. Note that in the top right corner, co-owner Ed Roski’s name is on the Cup, even though Roski was not on the initial list submitted by the Kings. So, there are actually 53 names on the Cup. A cursory examination did not turn up any misspellings, so that’s good…

When Rich first posted the list, I immediately commented that part owner Ed Roski was omitted. Well, it’s on there now on the first line, after Liewicki, and looks like it was added as an afterthought as it’s the farthest on the right margin and not level. So, the NHL ultimately approved 53 names.

Also, Loktionov should have been on there as well.

And the reason why Loki is not on the cup and Westgarth and Drewskie are on it because both Westgarth and Drewiski were healthy scratches and stayed with the team the whole season where Loki split his season with the kings and the monarchs

    [Reply]

    Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com) Reply:

@Brian S., Wrong. Nolan and King spent the vast majority of their time with the Monarchs.

    [Reply]

    CL Reply:

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com), What on earth do Nolan and King have to do with anything? They were guaranteed a spot on the Cup. The other three were in the same petition situation, but two spent the whole year with the team, and the other did not.

    [Reply]

    Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com) Reply:

@CL, There was no petition. It was an internal Kings decision, which makes King and Nolan totally relevant.

    CL Reply:

@CL, If I’m not mistaken, eligibility cut off is 41 regular season games or Stanley Cup Finals appearance. By that measure, Nolan & King are automatically in, the other three are decided by the team. Apples and oranges.

    Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com) Reply:

@CL, LOL. It’s like playing whack-a-mole with logic. So now your citing ‘that measure’ which is the ‘official measure’ which means Westy and Whiskey do NOT get on the Cup. All I’m doing is pointing out that I think Brian’s (and others) belief that because Kevin and Davis were with the team all year does NOT make them eligible to be on it. It’s just a guess with faulty logic.

    Rich Hammond Reply:

    Far enough. Thanks.

    CL Reply:

@CL, There’s two different issues here. One is the “automatic” qualification. That’s everyone except Lokti, Westy, and Whiskey. For some internal reason, the team decided that two of those three were to be on the Cup, and the other not. Presumably it has something to do with 19 & 44 being a constant presence in the locker room the past few years, and Lokti spending most of his time in New Hampshire. Either way, whatever criteria were behind that decision had nothing at all to do with Nolan and King, who were to be on the Cup regardless because they played in the Finals. So bringing Nolan and King into a discussion about the other three is totally irrelevant. That’s all I was saying.

    KC23 Reply:

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com), Anyone who plays in any of the Cup Finals games automatically gets their name on the cup regardless, its a rule. So Nolan and King having a splite regular season with the AHL is irrelavent.

    [Reply]

    Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com) Reply:

@KC23, Well I disagree with CL but I understand your points. Not sure why Rich put the Kibosh on what seems to be a relatively relaxed discussion here, but I’ll respect his wishes and move on. Feel free to email me if you’d like to get into the finer points.

    Quisp Reply:

    @Brian S.,

    1) So what? Why do they get bonus points for not being waiver-exempt?
    2) How do you know that’s the “reason”?

    [Reply]

  24. This from the Times: “Regarding Loktionov’s name being left off the Cup, I was told he didn’t qualify based on their internal criteria. What those were, i dunno.”

    Internal criteria.

    Nancy Anschutz – Wife
Ted Fikre – Executive Vice President AEG
EXCLUDED: Andrei Loktionov – LA Kings forward (41 games played)

Some criteria. I lost a lot of respect for whoever did this, even if it’s who I think it is.
