Yesterday brought a look at Bob Miller and Jim Fox calling the Kings’ first goal in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Today, it’s Nick Nickson and Daryl Evans calling the second goal on the radio. For those wondering about the setup, Nick and Daryl, in this video, are in their usual booth, at the front edge of the 300 level at center ice. Usually, Bob and Jim would be in the booth next door, but because NBC had the broadcast rights, Bob and Jim were upstairs in the press box in a makeshift broadcast location. This is how Nick and Daryl are always able to operate…
Wow!!!!

I almost like watching the reactions more than I like watching the actual thing. That more than anything brings me back to my own excitement that night.

@FiG17, I totally agree. Seeing them jump out of their seats is priceless. The roof was shaking at Staples that night.

Tingles up and down my arms/back/legs!!! Man that was such an awesome moment/game/night!!! From now on, whenever I’ll hear Nick call a goal I’m going to envision leaning back in his chair real quick while he makes the call!! As an announcer, those are the moments you live for!
STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!! outstanding!!
Hey @Hammer, quick question: will the B&J broadcasted game on the DVD be using the NBC video feed? I imagine it would, but just thought I’d ask… Thanks!

I believe it would be the NBC feed. I suppose it could potentially be the CBC feed, but that seems unlikely, particularly since when you see Bob and Jim referring to things on the monitor, they’re looking at the NBC feed.

No words except oh boy!
Another couble of great guys who do a wonderful beautiful job!
Thanks Rich! You too!

Oh, that’s what happened. I heard that Bettman was there, so it must have sucked.

@DesertKing, We did win, but only because the Devils didn’t listen to the announcers and SHOOT HIGH ON QUICK.

Awesome!! Now unlock the doors….

Didn’t Carter end up with that goal?

Another day and another reminder about how inept the NHL has been under Bettman’s leadership. Yay!

Is it my imagination or are people in LA more excited over a retired space shuttle landing on the back of a plane than the Kings winning the Stanley Cup? Maybe Space Hockey will be the next big thing.

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com),
I can’t speak for all of LA, but I was majorly excited to see the cup at Sports Chalet and I was majorly excited to see the shuttle fly by my office. Our city is awesome.

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com),
If the Stanley Cup were big enough to starp onto the back of a 747 and fly around the city I’d take the day off and chase it to the airport.

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com), Well since we do not have hockey now and maybe not at all this season next best thing as I work near the airport it was just a thing of beauty to see the shuttle fly over our building here today, since the cup is undergoing the names of our beloved Kings players and staff, and all what else can we do?

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com), I personally don’t see all the hubbub… I’d much rather see the SC lifted over Dustin Brown’s head every day over some tin can strapped to a big bird…

@Stuart, especially a tin can they have cut down 400 trees to get it were they want it. Regardless of how many they will plant to make up for it I really didnt like that part.

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com), Not to be a Nerd, but the shuttle program will be recognized forever as the first reusable spacecraft, so it is a big deal. As for there not being millions of Hockey Fans in LA and none in Anahiem. Cheaper tickets for the rest of us that have no problem supporting the Kings even thru lean years. I bet it would be fun having 20 people talking about the Kings at the water cooler at work after games, but I don’t know about paying $250 a seat in the nose bleeds vs bad teams like in Winnipeg.

These are simple but great videos. But hearing that Bob and Jim had to get booted in their own barn makes me a little irritated. All so we can hear “SSSCCCAAAAAAHHHHHHRRRR!!!”. Friggin NBC.

great video, one thing that i cant figure out is why NBC briefly shows the goal celebration and then cuts to the goaltender that got scored on, then the coach who’s team got scored on.

Stuart Reply:

@Sebastian, because NBC knew that nobody wanted to watch the Kings celebrate a 2-0 lead… poor ratings…

OT – this doesn’t say anything about escape clauses once/if the NHL gets underway, but it looks like the Swedish Elite League will be hunting for players:

@Stuart, I don’t think it would be a terrible thing if Bernier plays in Europe until the lockout is resolved. He is one guy that is just 10 times better when he is a starter in a normal rotation.

Great to see Nick’s call, too. To me, he is the voice of the Kings as much as Bob. My earliest Kings’ memories are “going to bed”, but secretly listening to the ends of the games with Nick and Engblom calling all the action.
