Games canceled through Sept. 30

The NHL announced today — link here — that all preseason games have been canceled through Sept. 30. For the Kings, that means the following games have been scrapped…

Sept. 24 at Phoenix
Sept. 24 vs. Phoenix at Staples Center
Sept. 26 at Colorado
Sept. 29 vs. Colorado in Las Vegas

Next up on the chopping block would be the Kings’ Oct. 1 game at Anaheim and the Oct. 6 game against Anaheim in Ontario.

That was the SEL. The team Kopi signed with is the 2nd tier league his brother plays in.

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

@562kevin, you are wrong. You’re referencing the elite league in SWE… he signed with their 2nd tier league which was accepting a contract that will let players fly back when GB gives the all clear…

    [Reply]

    Mikefromearth Reply:

@562kevin, And in fact this is a great thing for Kopi to do. It will allow him to play his game with his brother, get back and keep in shape, and come back the second the lockout is over.

You can say hockey players play for the money all you want, and that they’re just as guilty as the owners (bull, if you ask me), but I think we all know Kopi loves this game, and will do about anything he can to keep playing.

    Kopistar.

NEWS FLASH – Vegas economy goes in toilet after cancellation of Frozen Fury!

The shattered Vegas economy took another hit when the NHL canceled the famous Frozen Fury preseason hockey game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Stanley Cup Champions Los Angeles Kings. The event brings almost 20,000 crazed hockey fans to the city where they spend approximately $3 million during the 2 day event. One Vegas hotelier stated “Those Kings people, and I’m just talking about the players and staff, suck down alcohol like the Fleury and Bryzgalov let in goals.” The town, usually filled with people wearing Kings jerseys, was looking forward to even ore celebration since the Kings won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 45 years. This reporter located one Kings fan in a #32 jersey walking down the strip. When asked what he thought about the cancellation, he slurred “I thot it wath thith weekend (hic) Go Kings GO! (burp)” Officials in Vegas are now trying to figure out which political party Commissioner Gary Bettman belongs to so they make it a political issue during the upcoming elections. A call to Kings headquarters resulted in the following statement “We got the Cup! We got the Cup!” Until next year, Frozen Fury will just have to stay on ice, dry ice.

  19. Mike J. says:

What really irritates me is the NHL just casually killing another season. This was planned out a long time ago and the owners (and Bettman) don’t care about the game at all. There’s never been a plan to negotiate, just a plan to lock the players out. If there’s a season, I’ll go to the game where the Kings raise the banner, and then might just boycott (including not going or watching any games) this year. It’s really friggin’ sad to see morons ruining this great sport!

    [Reply]

    Mikefromearth Reply:

@Randy S, Well he does have a point. The only place the owners will feel the lockout and the consequences is in their pockets. Unfortunately, the players get their salaries from ticket sales/tv/memorabilia as well.

@HMCSFMFUSN, the glass is completely empty…as a matter of fact, Bettman has slap-shot the glass into the boards and it broke into a million pieces.

posted this on the previous thread…:

we now enter the ingmar bergman-period of the negotiations – lots ‘o’ isolation…that leads, of course, to the david mammet-period, where mind games and sleight of hand are commonly on display…after that stage, it could either go jerry bruckheimer-style, where everyone and everything blows up, but, somehow, comes together towards the betterment of humanity (at least, as jerry sees it…) at the end..or it could go the sam peckinpah-way, where everything and everyone get shot…and our lone working-class hero is left, standing alone, wounded, in the middle of a pond that used to be frozen and great for skating….

    [Reply]

    EmptyTank Reply:

    @variable,

Seeing how Jerry Bruckheimer attended around 40-50% of the games last season, I’d put my money on that ending. But I’m hoping that ALL we’ll get to see is the theatrical trailer and not the full feature-length flick.

I’m strangely at peace with all this lockout stuff. Amazing what winning the cup after all these years as a tortured Kings fan will do to your outlook. Last lockout I was all worked up and reading all the info on what both sides wanted and exchanging e-mails with friends on what one side or the other should do or accept.

I would actually be ok if this went a whole season. That is how much I’m still riding the high from last season. Heck dare I say the players could blow up the whole idea of an NHL and force some new successor competitor league to replace it and I’ll be happy knowing the LA Kings were the last true Stanley Cup Champs! So Kings players do what you gotta do. If that’s chilling in Europe or Russia or just taking a season off. Enjoy. And thank you again for last season.

    [Reply]

  26. luc20rules says:

As long as Bettman is the Commissioner of the NHL I suspect this is how every CBA will end with a LOCKOUT. The main problem I have is the NHL Owners knew the NHLPA would not trust #s that they give them, but refused to give the players the independent auditors #s until we were already in Sept. That just screams trust and good faith in negotiations doesn’t it? Then you have a pin head that is hired as the mouth piece just blasting NHLPA proposals to the press, before the Owners themselves have a chance to digest and discuss them. Nice platform for negotiations?
