Due to the labor negotiations, NHL players and ownership representatives have been gathering in New York this week. That gave several members of the organization a chance to visit the 9/11 Memorial and pay tribute to Ace Bailey and Mark Bavis. First, Kings governor Tim Leiweke and president Luc Robitaille visited the memorial yesterday. Today, a group of players went to the memorial site. Both groups brought along a special plaque made to honor Bailey and Bavis. (The inscription, in case it’s too small to read, says, “From your friends at the L.A. Kings. You were with us every step of the way.”) Here are some pictures from the memorial…

nice touch!

@Stuart,
JC? Isn’t that Greener holding the picture on the right. I don’t think Carter is in the picture.

Seeing these pics made me wonder at which point, if ever, do the Kings players feel any animosity towards Kings management/ownership?

@Stuart, not really, i think both sides understand it’s a business. also they players understand having owners other than AEG could be far worse. ask PHX

@Richie,
It’s not personal. It’s business.
I’m pretty sure there’s not one person in the whole Kings organization that doesn’t want to get back to what they (and we) love.
Hockey.

@IceGuy, I don’t dispute that everyone in this organization on both sides of the table love the sport of hockey on a personal level. at the same time, in order to successfully sustain a business model, certain constraints inevitably come into play and they both realize that. Having a union, having a CBA, and having negotiations for that CBA that are fair to both sides is simply a fact of reality and an unfortunate one as of right now.

@Lake Forest….
it was very warm that day – yes…and being in a crowed area (i was right next to magic’s statue, alongside the railing of where fsw was set up)…didn’t help it get any cooler…but i didn’t care – i think i still couldn’t believe we did it on that day and what was taking place right before my very own eyes felt surreal ….
yr two year-old is destined for hockey greatness…way to tough it out, kiddo…:)
Classy move by the Kings organization and players. They still need to run the Cup down there for Mark and Ace and all Americans.

@DesertKing, I’m a Penguins fan all the way, but I couldn’t agree more! The Kings Organization is clearly a very Classy one! These pictures brought tears to my eyes as a hockey fan AND an American. LOVE your idea about taking the Cup on by the Memorial. How about it, Kings?

@DesertKing,
That’d be great. I’d personally also love it (if by some miracle) they could also slide the Cup over next to the name CHRISTOPHER C. NEWTON for a photo while they were there. That’s my brothers name – flight 77, Pentagon.
That would be … great.

doesn’t it feel like we are among the top organizations in all of sports when it comes to doing the right thing outside of hockey…?
tributes…charities…the kings care foundation…visits to chla and shriners…reachable players,sharing their cup experience with the public…etc…
i know other franchises do a lot, too…and it’s really impossible to compare who does the most and is the most effective when it comes to philanthropic events…
but there’s something special about these guys and the way they won the cup…it seems like they haven’t taken a break, basking in the glow and offerings after what they had accomplished…they are just so likeable…forget their skills for a moment…these guys are good (doughty too)…and i hope all this momentum carries into the season, whenever it starts…
maybe i’m just being a homer, but these guys and the management we have (even with all their own individual flaws) knows right from wrong…
and, once again, they got this right, too….

@variable, Well said. Making Luc the president on the PR side of things really put the Kings over the top. The cup picture event for the season ticket holders was a great example of how the Kings do things right. They didn’t force us to buy stuff, but it was available and in some cases at a discount.
