For those looking for a chance at a photo with the Stanley Cup, there are a couple events on the horizon. Season-ticket holders should already have received information about an event with the Cup. If that information didn’t get to you, contact your season-ticket representative as soon as possible.
Also, there will be an opportunity — but not a guarantee — to get a picture with the Stanley Cup on Sept. 6 at hockey rinks in Oxnard, Simi Valley, Panorama City, Valencia, Burbank and Pasadena. Each of those rinks will hold a charity raffle, which will benefit the youth hockey program at the rink. At each location, 50 winners will be selected. Each winner (and a guest, if desired) will get a professionally-taken photo with the Cup — no personal cameras allowed — and the photo will be available online for a free download.
Again, the event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6. (According to the Kings, there will be a second, similar event, to be announced at a later date.) For details about how to buy tickets for each of the raffles, please contact the rinks directly. I will post the rinks, times and pertinent contact information…

@CB14, FYI you could leave each location at the start time of each event and not make it to the other in time. I’m not sure who scheduled the start times but it doesn’t leave anytime for pics at the location and certainly no time for traffic. Who ever set this schedule is out of touch with LA traffic.

@hockey junkie,
I really hope the other local youth hockey clubs get a chance to see the Cup. Granted the Ducks may own a few Orange County rinks, but the Anaheim Wildcats (KHS Ice) and OC Hockey (Yorba Linda Ice, Aliso Viejo Ice Palace) are not affiliated. It would be a shame to snub those clubs. There’s also the Wave (East-West Ice Palace in Artesia), the aforementioned Reign in Riverside and Ontario rinks, and so on.
The Jr. Kings just hosted a tournament in El Segundo for Labor Day. It’s a shame the Cup wasn’t available for that. There were clubs from other states that participated. Making Southern California a destination spot for youth hockey is good for the NHL clubs in every respect.

@DesertKing, There is ONE Stanley Cup trophy. All rumors to the contrary are fiction. The original cup that Lord Stanley of Preston donated to the champions of hockey in 1893 was replaced in 1969 and resides at the hall of fame. The cup that now sits atop the trophy is a replica of the original. Also, one ring with the players names is removed when another becomes full and is stored at the HOF and a new empty ring replaces it. The Stanley Cup trophy that will be making the rink tour is basically the same one, albeit with some minor styling alterations, that Gordie Howe, Jean Beliveau, Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky and most recently the Kings skated around with after winning their championships. As for timing and traffic and the events being started on time, who knows. But one trophy, THE trophy, will be the one showing up.

September 1st, 2012 at 2:39 am
@DesertKing, To clarify, there is a stand-in cup at the hall when the trophy is on the road. I was trying to explain that there will be one cup, THE cup that is awarded to the players, making the trip. The stand-in cup isn’t used to try and facilitate more people being able to see it, as in being in two events at once. Hope that makes sense. Just want everyone to know that they will see the same cup that Dustin Brown and the Kings lifted over their heads. Enjoy.

Hello, you have reached the voicemail for Dean Lombardi, general manager of the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings Hockey Club. Yes, you heard right, Stanley Cup Champions. I can’t answer the phone right now, so please follow the prompts or leave a message. If this is Shane Doan, please press “1″ to hear our latest offer. If this is Shane Doan calling back after pressing “1″ and hearing the offer, yes, you heard it right the first time, you need to pay us to have the privilege of playing on our team. If this is the boys at the El Cid lounge, please press “2″ to hear the ticket prices. Sorry, once we won the Cup, no more freeebies. If this is the MGM Grand hotel, please press “3″ to talk to our promotions department. Hopefully we will be there September 29th, but if the CBA is isn’t signed, could I still keep my room at that discount rate? If this is Jamie Kompon, please press “4″ to hear our explanation as to why you can’t come back. Yes, all of the quotes on line 4 came from the Insider blog. Speaking of the blog, if this is Rich Hammond, please press “5″ to hear me sing “Happy Birthday” to you. I recorded it on June 12th, 2012, which explains why you can’t understand a single word of it, but remember, it is the thought that counts. For everyone else, press”6″ to leave a message. Did Charlie Sheen give up after being locked out of Staples? Did Gary Bettman give up when he found out he wasn’t Napolean? Did Rich give up after he joined AARP? Did DL give up after being let go by the Sharks? NO, they all persevered and reached their goals. Call in sick, fork out $4 a gallon for gas, put on your Kings gear, and find that Cup!!! so…Fehr has recvd 2 proposals from the NHL and submitted his own, which was basically ignored by the NHL. So in response to the NHL’s counter to their initial (ignored and rightfully so) proposal, Fehr again pushes his own proposal??? The NHL is countering apples while the PA is countering oranges? fan-fn-tastic!
it’s going to be a long non-season…

neil Reply:

@Stuart, both sides are negotiating different proposals(it seems)NHL needs to figure out how to deal with the lower end teams before figuring out how to pay the players….It doenst seem to be a regular CBA wrt salaries but instead..its how to keep some teams afloat….This problem is too big to figure out in two weeks…Its going to take lots of work to fix the problem between the haves and have nots….This problem is not just the NHL but basketball too… Super teams are the new thing…and most teams are just not going to be able to compete in these systems….ALL sport teams should get together and figure a way out…Now you have the Dodgers justthrowing away money to win…but they can when they get millions from their next T.V. contract…when does this madness stop???
[Reply]
Stuart Reply:
August 31st, 2012 at 3:01 pm
@neil, they’re not really negotiating anything. NHL proposes A, PA proposes 1. NHL wants to negotiate within the parameters that they already have in place, the PA wants to negotiate the establishment of an entirely new system.
Me thinks that Fehr has spoken with his constituents about his big plan and has their consent to keep pushing it come hell or high water. Neither he nor GB will blink until the people that back them start to have happy feet and become more than a little nervous that things will never be eye-to-eye.

@Stuart, I actually like the idea of a seperate tournament for it…kind of like a champoins league if you will such as UEFA has with soccer. Take the top 4 teams from each professional league around the world and have them duke it out for it. I think that would be pretty damn sweet and could produce some serious national ratings and promote the sport of Hockey on the biggest stage possible. It would also send a message to the NHL that the cup is not yours and if you cant keep your stuff in order and have lockouts / strikes Ect. you will not have a trophy to play for. It would be pretty impossible though with all the travel and different league schedules and such but it would awesome to say the least
luc20rules Reply:

@BrokeKingsFan, I would rule out the AHL, because of its close affilation to the NHL, but I would like one of those other organizations to if only as a publicity stunt to file the appeal to the Stanley Cup Trustees, and it be approved. Why I hope this would pressure the NHL & NHLPA to start dealing seriously. For the NHL it would be embarassing to have a ametuer or minor league team win the cup, and for the players it would in their view to an extent tarnish the cup IMHO. Both sides have made only 2% type concessions in there offers when the rift is 15% of revenue, and to Bettman you shouldn’t be redifining HRR (Hockey Related Revenue) this just underhanded in may view.
Negotiate above board. I know both sides are trying to play the public, but just get real hear talk dollars that are known % that are already defined and try to meet near the middle. This is an embarassing the way the negotiations have been. Both sides are playing chicken with an all or nothing mindset. It appears the NHL Fan will be left with nothing, but a bitter sum of dollars to spend elsewhere that will not return the same treasured return as NHL entertainment. IMHO let it be known now that the Cup will be awarded to the best 16 and under team in Canada’s Junior Hockey if the NHL Lockout last the full season.

The cup has been all over West LA, but usually was a nominal donation to charity to get a picture. The reason you can’t take your own picture as I understand it is some people aren’t great with camera’s and it takes too long. @Brian, Aryes Hotel Conv. Center in Ontario, CA near the 10 & 15 Frwy. Also keep checking this site. Rich probably puts 1 place local a every 2 weeks that will host the cup for an hour or 2. The Kings play in LA so most of the sites will be near LA, so if you live 30 miles from Staples don’t get your hopes up that the Cup will appear next door. I hear you though it would be nice to get 20% of appearances southeast of Staples.

I sense there is an attitude of false entitlement brewing among LAK fans who want the team to make the Cup available to them around the corner from where they live and at no cost whatsoever to take pictures with it.
If we want to see the Kings play live, we must take a shower, brush our teeth, wear clean clothes, get in the car, fight rush hour traffic most times for weekday games, buy gas, buy an entrance ticket and buy whatever libation we want to enjoy while we watch the game at Staples or the Ponda when the LAK play in OC. We happily and willingly go through all that effort and expense without knowing if we’re going to be thrilled with a victory or disappointed with a defeat. But we do it knowing that along the way we’re helping fatten some billionaire’s already fat wallet.
Why should be any different when we’re given the opportunity to spend a little time with the one and only Stanly Cup? There cannot be any disappointment there. Specially knowing that most fees go to charity causes. Time to readjust a little, people.
With that said, we can bring two guests to take pictures with the Cup at Nokia Center Wednesday September 12 around noon. I think that’s the time they assigned to us for the Day with the Cup for season tx holders. Anyone interested, email me at gliwski@aol.com

@Gustavo, Right on agree enought said me and
my son each ten dollars so twenty total for just
a few pictures was so worth it went to charity
even had to wait two and half hours to see it
I saw the cup at the LA draft saw it few years
back on century blvd a few more years back
and each time just seeing it does not measure
up as taking your picture with it
So give to charity if you want the best thing
in your life to happen a picture with the
LA Kings Stanley Cup!
Go Kings Go!

Wayne Rutledge was one of my early favorites; he once stopped 59 shots in a game, and if I recal, lost 1-0….he used everything to stop the puck….

Kings very 1st game vs. Flyers….
October 14, 1967 — Future Hockey Hall of Famer Brian Kilrea scored two goals, including the first in team history, leading the Kings to a 4-2 home win. It was the first regular season game in the Kings’ history and was played in the Long Beach Arena because the Forum did not open until December. It was the second regular season game in the Flyers’ history. Bill Sutherland scored 42 seconds into the game and Philly led 2-0 after one period. The Kings held a 31-11 shots advantage through two periods but trailed 2-1. Bill Flett assisted on the first two Kings’ goals in the third period including the GWG by Gord Labossiere. The Kings held a 7-5 shots advantage in the third period but out-scored Philly 3-0. Doug Favell made 34 saves on 37 shots (one ENG). Wayne Rutledge faced just 16 shots. Kilrea scored just three goals in his NHL career but won over 1,000 games in the Juniors with the Ottawa 67s. While playing for the Kings, Kilrea requested the team demote him to Springfield of the AHL. “I just couldn’t stand it there. I thought it was too hot. So I went to them and I told them that if they didn’t mind, I’d like to be sent back to Springfield. They thought I was nuts to ask for it. I remember sitting in GM Larry Regan’s office and he was trying to talk me out of it. Nobody had ever heard of anything like this before. I couldn’t stand the hot weather. I hated it. I wanted to be closer to Ottawa.”

Watched game 6 of SCF tonight. Fantastic again!
-Someone please tell bettman that he isn’t even close, to being worthy of presenting Lord Stanley’s Cup to anybody, let alone our Los Angeles Kings.

@jess,
Except for Emerick’s play by play call. Thank goodness he was there or the truth that the Devils sucked would have been even more obvious, no real announcer would have even mentioned them, and a real announcer would have spe.t the 3the hours praising the Kings for their outstanding play and their ability to completely dominate their opponents.

and my favorite game from the playoffs – the very 1st one – of course I loved each and every win
by our indomitable Kings – but this set the tone for the rest of the run, as we keep bouncing back

@Real 7, Great choice. My favorite was Game 2 of the St. Louis series because that is when it hit me (by the end of that incredible 1st period) that we could absolutely win the cup.

Lord Stanley is strolling down my memory lane. I took my first formal ice skating lessons at Pickwick. I played in the first Iceoplex hockey league. I met and skated with Luc there. I was doing an internship at Prime Ticket and got a camera crew to go up there to check the place out, take some video of a charity game with the off-season Kings, and interview Luc and Marty and Hrudey (it was a slow sports news night). The Cup felt so close back then, and now it’s finally ours.

I am still starved for hockey. I too have been watching all the replays and games on NHLHD. These have produced some insights in games I have missed over the years. One that really comes to mind is the 2006 cup was actually won by Calgary in game six. A late game goal was clearly shown to be in goal (even the replay showed this)and not called. Had this been the case, there would not have been a game seven, Tampa Bay would not have a cup, and Daryl Sutter would have had his first cup.
You don’t hear DS complaining, I’m glad it was the Kings that got him one
I hear people still saying the Kings didn’t deserve the cup, but I just smile and remind them this team went up 3-0 on every team they played.Seems deserving to me!!!
Gonna do it again next year if we have a season!!! GKG.

@OLD CODGER, I laugh at anyone who would dare say the Kings didn’t deserve the cup. Ten straight road playoff wins … never been done … 3-0 in all four playoff series … never been done … 8th beating 1st, 2nd, 3rd conference seads and dominating in each series … never been done.
Anyone who says the Kings didn’t deservie the cup I immediately know that don’t know what the f their talking about.

Anyone wanna give me a quick update of what the hecks been going on?
I remember that last lockout… I was like a realllllly little kid and I thought there is NO WAY there could be a lockout. Why would the people in charge want to stop hockey from being played.
Now I am wondering why they would let another happen especially after how popular the sports getting especially in areas that aren’t traditional hockey markets like hmmm idk the Kings? lol

Training camp is or was supposed to start in LESS than 2 weeks. The NHL has a choice. They can negotiate in good faith, care about playing hockey, take the players offer seriously and if necessary, lock themselves in a room with Donald Fehr and gang and get this done on time.
Or they could care less whether we start the season on time or at all, act like they are “negotiating” when actually they are just going to lock the players out until they cave in, and cry and whine that they have huge operating costs and small market teams are in trouble while said teams offer ridiculous sums of money and contract lengths to free agents.
Sounds like the choice has already been made and it ISN’T door number 1.
Disgusting.

@HockeyNerd, The only hope the NHL season has is if Fehr has figured out Bettman. There will be no negotiation. If Fehr comes in and offers a 1 year CBA which would still allow a 82 game season with Escrow of 20% of the players salaries(Last year there was an 8.5% Escrow on players salaries.). Basically excepting the NHL’s offer, but for only 1 year. Keep in mind even a 10 game lockout would be the equivalent of 12% lost player wages & revenue for the NHL even more if the buildings are also owned by the NHL owner. Then plan on negotiating a long term settlement over the next year. I think it would be viewed as good faith, which would reset negotiations and the timeline. For the players its like a concession without losing anything this year at this point. The fans would be appreciative, and would be more likely to be patient if the NHL has a lockout next year.
IMHO that is the only way this gets done by Oct, but will Bettman even consider that as a resolution.

Hey everyone: My son skates at Riverside Icetown. They are already starting to sell tickets for their stop of the rink tour, which will be 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 2. The person up front said they’ll have a half-hour window with the Cup (so, sounds like it’ll be making the rounds the same as it is this week). Looks like it’ll be the same set-up: Buy $5 raffle tickets, and there will be 50 winners chosen to take pictures with the Cup. I would bet that it’ll be making it from there west/south to hit the other IE and OC spots.
