The NHL has (optimistically) released its national television schedule for the upcoming season, and the Kings are on it 17 times, on either NBC, NBC Sports Network or NHL Network. Here’s the rundown:
Oct. 12 vs. N.Y. Rangers — NBC Sports Network (opening night)
Oct. 30 at St. Louis — NBC Sports Network, TSN2
Nov. 3 vs. St. Louis — NHL Network
Nov. 29 at Detroit — NHL Network
Jan. 5 vs. St. Louis — NHL Network
Jan. 21 at Nashville — NBC Sports Network, TSN2
Feb. 3 at Washington — NBC, TSN2
Feb. 5 at Buffalo — NBC Sports Network, TSN
Feb. 7 at N.Y. Rangers — NHL Network
Feb. 9 at New Jersey — NHL Network
Feb. 10 at Pittsburgh — NBC or NBC Sports Network
March 11 vs. Colorado — NBC Sports Network, TSN2
March 23 vs. Vancouver — NHL Network
March 25 at Dallas — NBC Sports Network, TSN2
April 6 vs. Edmonton — NHL Network
April 9 at Dallas — NBC Sports Network, TSN2
April 13 vs. Anaheim — NHL Network
Also, for our friends north of the border, the following Kings games will be nationally broadcast only in Canada…
Oct. 16 at Edmonton — TSN
Dec. 13 at Montreal — RDS
Feb. 20 at Calgary — TSN
Feb. 28 at Vancouver — TSN
March 4 vs. Toronto — TSN
March 9 vs. Calgary — CBC
The Kings will announce their local broadcast schedule sometime in the next couple weeks. I’ve been told that the plan is for Fox Sports West to also broadcast two preseason games, the game in Las Vegas and the Kings-Ducks game in Ontario. Beyond that, it would be a big surprise if all regular-season games were not televised in some form.
I guess winning the cup is giving us more tv coverage!!!! Finally!!!!!!!!!!

That is very optimistic of them.
The extra national games are great for people who live outside of the LA market, but for us who live here it means we get less Bob and Jim and more of the NBC clowns. I liked it better when NBC hated the Kings.
The NHL network games are usually blacked out in favor of FSN so no problem there. Realistically, 9 games will be broadcast by NBC/NBC sports and the rest by FSN for us in the LA market. Interesting note, only 2 of the 9 national games are at Staples, the rest on the road.

“Throughout the season, NBC Sports Group once again will offer hockey fans in the U.S. more than 100 games across NBC and NBC Sports Network. NBC Sports Network will air NHL games three consecutive nights each week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday nights will be exclusive, and in January, NBC Sports Network will add a second exclusive night on Sundays, giving NHL fans four straight nights of hockey action.”

I don’t see any Wednesday NBCSN games. So aside from those big NBC games they should all be Bob and Jim.

There’s not a single part of me that wants this lockout to commence but when it happened last time, it was an extra year for players like Voynnov, King, Nolan, Toffoli, Hickey, etc. to continue to develop. If I’m not mistaken, Voynov is eligible to play in Manchester.
If the NHL does in fact lockout the players, the AHL will have a lot more talent in the league and it will give some of the players who are on the bubble about playing in the NHL vs AHL another year to develop.
[Reply]
As long as I can still watch most of these on FSN, I am fine with the extra coverage. These Kings might hit it big nationally with the way they play. Heavy grinders with an amazing goalie. Can’t go wrong with that combo.
I really hope both sides get it settled. The last lockout was terrible.
[Reply]
IF yesterdays league proposal passes, the LAK will have to shed around $4.3 mill in salary from their current roster of $62.3 million to meet the new cap of $58 mill. Who would the Kings waive or trade for picks and prospects?
My choices would be all forwards:
Westgarth $ 725,000
Gagne $3.500,000
Richardson $1,125,000
None of these three did much of anything during the playoff run or prior to it to earn the team a spot in the post season dance.

Stuart Reply:

@Gustavo, per Darren Dreger “Necessary adjustments would be financed entirely from a combination of modified contracting practices, increases in league-wide revenue and from the players’ Escrow contributions.”
but if some roster moves needed to be made, I’d agree with what you have there, but we’d probably need to cut one mid-range contract to make space for the 3-4 players that would take the roster spots, since they aren’t playing for free either…
[Reply]
Gustavo Reply:
August 30th, 2012 at 1:06 pm
@Stuart,
We’re already one roster spot over the limit. So we only need to replace two of those three named above. Those three outgoing salaries total $5.35 mill, leaving an extra mill to pay for two NHLers.
Andreoff and Toffoli have an NHL cap hit of $600K and $870K respectively. I don’t think we’d need to let go of another mid-range salary to make up the difference. But that’d leave it pretty tight and DL does not like being without some trading room in the salary cap. Would Bernier be in play then to give Jones a chance to back up the Conn Smythe and 2012 Stanley Cup Champion, Jonathan Quick?

@Dominick (defrim65), Hey friend I got to see the CUP today. It finally made it here to Salt Lake. Can’t wait to meet up with you again later this year.
[Reply]
The CUP has finally made to Salt Lake City. I tell you the line was loooonnng but the wait was worth it. If only for a second that silver Cup really hits the spot. We have waited a long time ti have a Kings team this good. Hopefully we have a full season so we can show the world that us winning the Cup was no fluke.
It was so cool of Trevor Lewis to allow us fans a moment with the trophy. Most of us would of loved to have taken a photo with it but the line would of moved to slow for that to happen. Hopefully everyone got a chance to see it. Lewis is a class act and he loved my Kings tattoo.
Seeing the Cup really brings home how special it really is. We Kings fans have waited for so many hard years to get to this point. Four years ago I went to the same Maverick Center to watch the Kings play a pre season game vs the Sharks. Nobody gave us a fighting chance back then. Kopi was a rookie and Brown just became our captain. Quick was still in the minors. Lewis hadn’t been drafted yet. But here we are today with the Silver Cup at the same Maverick Center.
While standing in line this afternoon I had the enjoyment of waiting along with some Kings fans from Rock Springs, Wyoming. The two young boys play jr hockey and you could tell that seeing the Cup met so much to them. Just talking with other hockey fans and being in the atmosphere of a championship hockey club was enough for me. I know now that we are the best in the NHL and we have a bunch of new Kings fans now that we are on top. My hope is that we will have a full season so all of us can cheer this team in defense of the Cup. I also got to see an old friend who I had lost touch with. He was there sporting all his Kings gear proudly, funny thing about Kevin is He used to be a Ducks fan back when I first got to meet him back in 1999. Talk about jumping ship. I guess winning has a way of doing that.

Hey Rich, do you know at what point they will decide to cancel Frozen Fury if a deal is not in place? Will it go right up until Sept 15, or is there some deadline where they have to let MGM know that there will not be a game? I already have my tickets and my hotel reservation, but I have been waiting to purchase my plane tickets, as those are non-refundable. The longer I wait, the more they are going to cost, so it would be nice to know if there is a deadline.
