Stanley’s big weekend

The Stanley Cup tour continues, and this weekend it spent time with two players who played a big role in bringing it to Los Angeles. Dustin Brown had the Cup in Ithaca, N.Y., while Jonathan Quick had it in Connecticut. Some of the pictures that come out of these trips are just priceless. Here are a couples stories about the homecomings of Brown and Quick, followed by a couple pictures. First, it’s the cake presented to Quick for his Cup party (courtesy of Phil Pritchard’s “Keeper of the Cup” Twitter), followed by a shot of Brown’s not-so-routine trip to the grocery story for some beverages (courtesy of Fox/Turner reporter Jamie Maggio’s Twitter). Also, the updated “Stanley Cup Tracker” map can be found by clicking here.

[UPDATE: For those who have been asking for a larger view of the cake, here's an attempt at some help. If they were really creative, they would have included Patrik Elias stealing the puck...]

One hell of a prize for Quickie!

And I’ll go shopping with Captain Crunch anytime.

@IceGuy, Capt Crunch so has to be his official nickname now :)

    Tim James Reply:

@QUICKsilver, long-time Kings fans will recall Captain Crunch was the nickname of defenseman Gilles Marotte, who played with the team in the early 1970′s. His greatest contribution to the Kings was being traded to the NY Rangers for Mike Murphy.

    @SRKEEGAN,

Hey, it was all “light” beer so they are watching calories. Nasty tasting beer, but “light.”

    [Reply]

    SRKEEGAN Reply:

@DesertKing, Yeah, I saw the Ultra in there. I just don’t want them all reporting to camp like Drew Doughnut does, and need to take the first half of the season to play their way into shape.

I’m loving how much everybody is enjoying themselves, but it’s a short offseason. Starting to get a little concerned.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

@SRKEEGAN, Let’s not forget the entire team got 2 extra months of work in the playoffs. Can’t get any better training than that.

OTOH, Coors light? Seriously? I could think of better choices for my calories regardless.

    [Reply]

    pr0cess Reply:

@SRKEEGAN, you ever think that maybe its what others want? and that maybe he isnt drinking it?

    [Reply]

    SRKEEGAN Reply:

@pr0cess, No. I think guys in their 20′s like to party, and he wouldn’t be buying Michelob Ultra because it’s just so delicious and that it is what everybody loves to drink. Lol!

The point is, even if they played an extra 2 months, modern pro athletes can’t take a couple months off to eat cake, drink beer and chase tail. Didn’t any of you see Rocky III?

Right now, the rest of the league is Clubber Lang. They are hitting the training room hard, and they are focused on revenge. Our guys are having robots that say “Happy Birthday Paulie” bring them birthday cake.

Just hoping they don’t have a Stanley Cup hangover, and have a bad start like last year.

    Shakes Reply:

@SRKEEGAN, and there you have it, we have found a way to look at the sweet goofy picture and see the Cup half full..

    SRKEEGAN Reply:

@Shakes: whatever. We were all thinking it. I just said it.

Anybody who has followed sports longer than the past 6 months knows what I am talking about.

    fsd1 Reply:

@SRKEEGAN, I wasnt thinking it, I say have some cake and beer, they know what needs to be done.

    SRKEEGAN Reply:

@ fsd1: well, the first 3 people posting on the thread were thinking it. My concern isn’t over having some cake and beers. It’s over having 2-months-worth of cake and beer while traveling all over the place partying.

And you should be thinking it if you see how Drew Doughboy gets 5 points for the first month of the season every year because he isn’t ready to play.

It would also be awesome if none of our other stars could put themselves in a position of being accused of anything else too. This is going to shock some of you, but millionaires in their 20s aren’t known for making good decisions and showing restraint.

    luc20rules Reply:

@SRKEEGAN, Each player gets one day with the cup. You better believe this is a day they will party and make the most of. They spent years of blood, sweat, and tears to earn it. I have no problem with the guys enjoying the cup. As far as them getting out of shape and partying non-stop. I just don’t believe it, these guys worked their bs off all year whether it showed on the ice or not. With leaders like Brown, Scuds, Mitchell, Kopi, Greene, & Richards its very hard for me to see this team slipping.

@DesertKing, Real men buy an M-4 and dress them up. In the gun world they call it the Barbie for men because of all the accessories you can buy. To clean up any confusion a M-4 is the same thing as a M-16 or AR-15. Not an AK-47.

I wonder if Dustin had to spend some time finding a good shopping cart…as opposed to like most of them which have a squeaky wheels or the carts where the wheels aren’t quite right and they sorta turn in one direction or the other. All very stressful stuff.

Where is this world going too?
