Development-camp photos

Loyal reader Chasen Ikiri has once again been kind enough to share his great photos from development camp, which he took yesterday. They’re a great complement to the videos that Paul dutifully posts for everyone, and Chasen does consistently outstanding work so please give them a look…

Development camp photos

    Gotta love this…The Hockey News takes a shot at Kings fans: http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/hockey/comments/enjoy_it_while_you_can_la/

    Glad I don’t waste my money on that garbage.

    And btw, the quote from the LA Times shows how ignorant the paper is about hockey, not LA sports fans.

    @Paulhb, It’s funny, I’ve seen other arguments as well, where people try to site how the Kings attendance levels are mediocre, when viewed against other teams in the league. The Kings placed 15th in the league this year, on pure attendance numbers at home, but Staples center’s seating capacity for hockey just can’t match a lot of the other teams. This year, I believe the Kings had 38 sell outs during the regular season, and that’s including the portions of the season where it looked like the may not even make the playoffs.

    @Paulhb,
    While it seems pretty pointless and comes off as sour grapes to write this type of article instead of letting a team bask in its Cup glory, the main theme behind the story is unfortunately pretty true. Southern California, and pretty much the US in general, just isn’t big on hockey like it is for overrated garbage like the NBA and NFL. Those sports are all hype.

    @Klong, Unfortunately, MANY Americans make judgement what’s on the outside rather then the inside. You have names like Prokohorkin, AnZE Kopitar, Lundquist, Koivu, Selanne, Vachon, Deslauriers, etc…..NOT exactly household names like Jones, Ruth, Smith, White, West etc.

    People simply will not be curious enough when things are tough to understand, unless it becomes a fad.

    I didn’t see any shots. What he said is absolutely true. He said kings have a small and dedicated following which is true. He also said that outside of that small following the kings will remain but a curiosity unless they consistently win, which is also true pretty much for every city in this country. BTW, I’m glad he called out Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, etc. He’s wrong about the Rangers though. Those fans are more bandwagon than anybody.

    @KingMe,
    He also implied we’re like Pittsburgh in that we don’t have good attendance unless we’re winning, which is untrue.

    Great photos!!!

    I really hope the art of passing is pushed hard on these kids! If one thing really helped our cause it was our ability to suddenly move the puck very quickly and accurately in the playoffs. Idk if DS had anything to do with that?

    What's the frequency, Kenneth? Reply:

    @Stuart, Totally agree. The aggressive passing really made a huge difference in the Kings’ offense going down the stretch and into the playoffs. Thusly, it would be a good idea to emphasize passing skills with this team’s composition and style.

    What's the frequency, Kenneth? Reply:

    Particularly that first pass out of the zone, which probably means “especially defensemen.” We did see, however, the need to make three or four good passes in a row to gain the zone against the Devils.

    I loved 60′s (Weal) hustle, but it kind of came off as showy sometimes. They are still kids, though, right?

    Impressed by Vet, Weal and Toffoli. Future looks good.

    What happened to Linden Vey?

    I went to camp Saturday AND Sunday, and I saw Vey injured himself on Saturday, and didn’t participate at all today.

    Colin Miller took a MEAN stick to the mouth today, didn’t finish the session, but I doubt it’s anything as serious as Vey’s.
