Bodnarchuk joins Kings on one-year deal

The Kings announced today that they signed free-agent defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk to a one-year contract. Bodnarchuk, who turns 24 next week, is listed at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, and he spent the past four seasons in the Boston Bruins’ organization before he became an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Bodnarchuk played five games for the Bruins during the 2009-10 season and spent the last two seasons with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. This season, in 63 games he had five goals, 12 assists and 44 penalty minutes. He was a fifth-round draft pick of the Bruins in 2006.

Bodnarchuk is likely to compete for a spot with the Manchester Monarchs, particularly given that one of the Monarchs’ top defensemen, Patrick Mullen, signed with Vancouver today. Mullen played 67 games for Manchester last season, with 13 goals and 28 assists.

And so it begins. We overstocked the Minors with prospects and now they rest of the league is going to pick them away. Zatoff & now Mullen gone. DL has made the decision I suppose that we need the depth at Manchester and the Vets on the Kings will get their shot to defend the cup.

    luc20rules Reply:

@Perro, & @Duncunz that is basically what I am saying. This year its not that big of a deal, and I am with DL on keeping the Vets. I just wonder at what point it will be a very hard decision, and do we try and get some assets before they go UFA on us. Bernier is next summer. Hickey and other probably the year after that.

@luc20rules, Let’s see, we really started clicking in the last 20 games of the season. This was when we really learned how to play and embrace the DS system. There in NO REASON to believe that we have reached our full potential with this team yet. Yeah, we have great rookies (bet the ducks wish they were in our shoes) but given the present team, they’ll have to be patient and wait for the proper time

    [Reply]

    luc20rules Reply:

@plywood, I would have to agree you need to reward the guys that bring you the Stanley Cup Championship with continued employment. I was just wondering if we will move any prospects that we will lose in the summer at the trade deadline or sooner? DL has gotten us this far I guess its just wait and see. I would imagine alot depends on what is offered verse the possible need due to injury of the Kings roster at the given time.

One hting i could not deal with was how overplayed the Coyote’s used the howl sound. After they beat out Nashville it seemed to play continous for like 20 minutes (probably only 5)

@Perro, The Chelsea Dagger song is the one they play in Chicago after all of the goals. Last year I happened to speak with Todd McClellan right after San Jose was bounced by the Blackhawks, and I asked him what he thought of that song. He just (pleasantly) gritted his teeth.

I will be relegated to going to games against the bottom dwellers in the NHL that no-one else wants to attend and the teams we never seem to be able to beat anyway and all the while paying twice as much to do so! You may just wait till more near the beginning of the season. I would bet many people signed up for season seats just to get into playoff games at reasonable prices. When it comes time to pay up, people should begin dropping out and packages will become available again.

But there was some sort of problem that delayed the game for a really long time, and they gave away free beer to the fans to keep them there. But as soon as the game started and there was a penalty, the fans were so drunk, they rushed the box and lifted the glass to get at the player…I never did see what happened to that player. To bad kings don’t have a 1st, it would be nice if they can trade for one. Even in the 2nd rd some players would be taken in the 1st round in other draft years. Yes I’m truly a hockey nut and follow all things hockey! Here are my top 5 in no order yet!

    Hunter Shinkaruk, C, Medicine Hat
    Seth Jones, D, Portland
    Nathan MacKinnon, RW, Halifax
    Ryan Pulock, D, Brandon
