    Bob Bobson Reply:

    @Stuart, I think it would be interesting to bring Jagr onto the team on a one year deal. He has Cup experience which DL values and we have cap space next season only for a splurge.

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

    @Bob Bobson, but he brings nothing on the Defensively responsible side… he’ll be a good PP asset, but he’s no where near a two-way Kings type player…

    @Stuart,

    Agreed. Not a fit for this team and system.

    Now watch them sign him ;)

    Bob Bobson Reply:

    @Stuart, Maybe we hide that on a line with Kopitar/Brown. Our PP was a big issue during the regular season so I would think he would at least be considered because of that alone. However the team was so Jekyll and Hyde last year it is hard to get a read on them. They were phenomenal down the stretch and in the playoffs but can they keep it up for an entire season?

    Stuart Reply:

    @B.B., maybe. He’s a puck possession guy, but then that would put a lot of strain on DB and AK… not sure I’m sold on an aged Jagr…

  16. rick says:

    It hurts me to say this, but Penner might be our best option. From all reports this morning, Parise wants tons of money. Whitney is very likely to sign with Canes. Doan will more than likely stay with Phoenix. What I would really like is to see Bobby Ryan here, but I think that would involve a complicated three way deal which is beyond my capacity to envision at this point.

    [Reply]

    Bob Bobson Reply:

    @rick, It would have to be a stealth three way deal too because the Ducks would not want him to end up here.

    Funny what a stanley cup win will do to people.

    It’s odd to me that we have so many people BEGGING for Penenr to be signed.

    4 months ago people were asking for his head (including me)

    I’m ok either way, i personally like the guy, but wouldn’t shed a tear if he was gone.

    he showed up for 20 games, that’s it people. He can be a power forward if he wants to….

    but he has to want to.

    [Reply]

    Michael J. Reply:

    @Lake Forest,

    I’m with you and can go either way with Dustin. If he stays-great. If he goes-fine.

    Personally, I give Dustin a lot of grace concerning his play during the season. We don’t know what was going down with his marriage, but to me it was obviously taking a huge toll on him. The most encouraging part of the whole thing was the support that we all saw the rest of the teams give him. When Dustin scored that goal vs. Nashville we all saw Stoll and Lewis jump on him-that speaks volumes to the comradery shared by the Kings.

    [Reply]

    Lake Forest Reply:

    @Michael J., Agree with you there. If it’s based on “intagibles” then I am ok with that reasoning for keeping him at a discount rate.

    I’m hoping he has a reason for his regular season play….divorce and/or injury.

    [Reply]

    Michael J. Reply:

    @Lake Forest,

    It was both, probably the former more than the latter.

    An interesting thing to add is that Sutter views the guys as “people” more than as “hockey players”. I believe that Darryl made an investment in Dustin the person this season and it paid off. What’s next is anybody’s guess.

    I’d like to see Penner back. I’d be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he had some major distractions off the ice and that with DS as coach, he won’t fall back into a funk. But he has to be here at the right price.

    I think no way Doan goes to the Kings. There are other teams out there that can offer him more money and the chance to play in the top lines.

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

    @vplaza, I think the cup means more to Doan than being a top6 F… I just don’t think he would “like” himself for playing for the Kings, it would be like sleeping with the enemy… and no amount of showers will ever get that feeling off.

    @petemagoop, More likely DET. I think they overpay dramatically because, after losing Lidstrom, they want to keep their status as an elite team. I get the feeling both players will get a long term (around 10 years) contract to get fit under the cap. Holland has no problem with long term contracts either considering he gave Zetterberg a 12 year contract.

    @Bob Bobson, Yah obviously we are all only speculating for now. If DET loses out on Suter, they also take a hard run at Carle as the consolation prize. I actually would not mind if we go for Matt Carle either. I am concerned about what happens once Willie Mitchell retires and he is 35.

  30. kopitaristheman says:

    I think Penner signs with another team. He could come back to the Kings but he would get a huge pay cut. He proved he has skill in the playoffs, so any team that needs his size might throw him an offer he can’t refuse. It’s either $2 mill with the Kings or another $4 mill with another team. His name is on the cup twice, so maybe he takes money over another chance at a cup run.

    [Reply]

    Bob Bobson Reply:

    @kopitaristheman, If Stoll re-signs at a hair below his last contract given the year he just had, no way we re-sign Penner at $2MM although I think that is a good salary for him. I would not be surprised if we lose him.

    [Reply]

    DEH Reply:

    @kopitaristheman, I think Penner is in stand by mode. We will resign him if it becomes apparent that we will not sign Parise, much like the Gagne and Brad Richards situation last year.

    [Reply]

    Kenny44 Reply:

    @kopitaristheman,

    Maybe the bear has changed his stripes. After winning the Cup, Penner had an interview with PO’N and mentioned that he had left a winning team for money and did not want to do that again. He was clearly serious and even seemed emotional about it. That caught O’Neal, who was expecting jocularity, off guard. He doesn’t have to do this for anyone else, and I really got the impression that he honestly wants to stay and play for another Cup. He was a key part of our run. Not easy to find that kind of beast with that skill level.

    [Reply]

    Kingsfanone Reply:

    That interview caught my attention also. I agree with you.

    There’s also this “wrist surgery” he’s supposed to undergo soon. Perhaps some of the delay may be with the outcome of that. Don’t have any idea what his need for surgery involves, but if it’s tendons, could be a real tough road to regain that strength or adapt to it if you’re not back to 100%.

    Jeff_R Reply:

    @Kenny44, I am hoping the days of the Kings having to over spend to get players is over with. The Kings have a lot more to offer now then just money to attract players including a young skilled at all positions to contend every year. Plus they have a shiny new silver Cup that helps also.

    And this is coming from a good source… rogies backup! ;) I think he stays until the trading deadline next year.

    Everyone knows Bernier will get a shot as a starter. It’s just a matter of time. Lombardi isn’t going to move him without getting something very significant in return. One would think any deal would include a quality backup so I’m not worried at all about that. It would be nice to keep Bernier for a long time just in case of injury, but that’s not realistic.

    [Reply]

    rogiesbackup Reply:

    @Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com), Yes, if anything wait till next year trade-deadline in fact, keep the team intact if possible till next trade deadline, that way when play-offs start next season the team will have a “different unsuspected look” then the first half of the season.

    @Jeff_R, Yes, but the trade has to be of equal goaltending. I’m really concerned about what happend to M.A. Fluery in Pittsburg, here we have a proven Numero Uno goaltender but didn’t play well/didn’t have luck in the play-offs yet the pens woundn’t dare put their back up, on the other hand VanCanucks, had a really good option in the play-offs in C.Schneider.

    @rogiesbackup, Keep in mind folks the more Jonathan Bernier plays the more Quickie gets rested and is hungrier to play. Lundquist/rangers credits Biron for the Vezina cause it allowed Lundquist much needed rest.

    Quick will say the more he plays the better he gets, maybe true to a point, but in the long run he will start to make mistakes e.g stick handling woes behind the net during the play-offs.
