Bob’s night with the Cup

Here are a few more photos of Bob Miller’s event from last night. The Braemar Country Club in Tarzana did a real nice job of hosting the event, and of course Bob and his wife, Judy, were gracious in bringing in people to have fun. What’s telling about Bob and Judy is that not only did they invite friends and neighbors, but they invited their regular UPS delivery man and their former UPS delivery man. It was great meeting a few of you last night, and if anyone has a copy of the group photo that I was in, I’d appreciate it if you could email it to me. Thanks, and here are some shots of the Stanley Cup and friends…)

What a great moment for Bob and Jim, but what is really great is how every single Kings fan was so thrilled to see Bob hoist the Cup. He is such a part of our Kings experience, we are so lucky to call him our own.

@Krusher, Great for Nick and Darryl as well!

@Krusher, I was disappointed not to see him in NBC’s postgame celebration, but I’m glad he was at the parade and rally. When I first became a fan in ’76,I always felt bad for Bob when the Kings went up against great teams in the playoffs like Boston, etc. They always held their own, forced it to go a lot of games, had great rallies to come way from behind, but eventually lost. At least we always owned the Atlanta Flames. lol.

@Krusher, that is quite the death grip Bob has on the cup.

    Hackwoods Reply:

@Krusher, What would have really made my day (and this whole experience) was during the rally, when Brown went back up to the mike to thank Bob again and how the only thing missing was having him call the games, would have been Brown picking up the CUP and handing it to Bob so he could raise it over his head in front of the 18K+ Kings faithful (plus the many thousands watching on TV). I believe the team was looking for Bob after Game 6 but he was doing the post game show and he did not get to raise the CUP until later that night in the post game party at Staples, and I do not know for sure, but I think only a few hundred people saw it. That would have been awesome.

Nick, Jim, and Darryl too, are very much part of this as they have been on board a very long time too and do an outstanding job. Love those 4. They rule.

So awesome to see Dave Taylor. He’s one of the former Kings that I wish had won the Cup during his career.

@KingsFan72, I don’t think Dave Taylor is touching that thing.

    Bob Bobson Reply:

@LA_1968, Agreed. Not sure what Dave Taylor’s current position is (last I know he was with Dallas) but it would be great if we could somehow bring him back in the fold and win another Cup with him. Regardless it is very nice to see a picture of him alongside the Stanley Cup and the broadcasters.

@Bob Bobson, He’s the Director of Player Personnel for the Blues. He’s not coming back anytime soon.

    justmyopinion Reply:

@LA_1968, No, he isn’t, but he deserves to having drafted Brown, Quick and Kopitar. I’m sure superstition dictates he not touch it until the team he is working for at the time of the win does so. Another example of how classy Bob is.

@KingsFan72, My first Kings Jersey was Taylor 18 when I was 11. I basically grew up with him over the next 15 years. He is probably my all time favorite King and it is a tragedy that he wasn’t part of the organization when we won the cup. It does my heart good to see him posing with it though.

    Fenderbassfan Reply:

@370455VinSD, Yes, I remember him as a rookie, and when the King’s were being Manhandled by Phillie, Boston, the Islanders, Dave NEVER backed, always kept his legs moving, and never down, battling even the biggest players.

    Skebo Reply:

@KingsFan72, yeah. It was en vogue for awhile to hate the former GM. But when you get down to it, he still built the core of the team that we have here today. Brown, Kopitar and Quick where all DT picks. Sure he had a lot of misses, but those are 3 of our top 5 players today. Tack on his playing career and he should still be mentioned as one of the Kings all time greats and nothing less.

    Darrell Reply:

@Skebo, As someone on LGK pointed out, the Hawks have Tallon on the Cup.

@Skebo, He is considered one of the all time greats. His jersey’s hanging in the rafters and deservedly so. Love DT.

    LA_1968 Reply:

@Mikefromearth, I only get jealous when a total amateur bandwagon ‘fan’ get that close and then brag. My Uncle, who I didn’t even know liked the Kings, was at Stoll’s birthday on Sunday with the Cup. PISSED me off.

    Fenderbassfan Reply:

@Kopi Bryant, Even though Rich Marotta was Bob’s ‘Color Man’ when I first became a fan in ’76, I’m glad he wasn’t seen with the cup because he’s turned into an arrogant @$$. My brother is a Boxing writer and he says Marotta acts like he’s a god and very unfriendly to other Boxing writers and commentators. Don’t you think he comes across that way on TV too?

  9. Jeff says:

I had the honor of being there last night. It was an amazing experience! Nice to meet Rich and lots of other Kings fans. It was surreal. The Stanley Cup “handler” told me that he’s taking the Cup to Siberia next week. I think Voynov is from there.

Yep for sure it will be so great to here and see Bob and Jim, when the new banner gets hung up. Not jealous as I saw the cup in LA so many times at different events, as if you are a true Kings fan in LA you would have seen it, before, as it was at the NHL Draft in 2010 at Staples, along with all the other trophies too, you could have lots of pictures then, and it was as the Westin hotel few years back before the I hate the Ducks won it too, at a event.

So good thing is now the Kings have it for whole year to do what they please with it, and yes just still upset above that people say they go to birthday party and see the cup and are not a fan of the Kings

    oh well
