Six second-day picks for Kings

The second round of the NHL Draft is underway, and the Kings are scheduled to have six picks, but none until the end of the fourth round. I’ll update them here, along with any pertinent news, and then have more in-depth looks at each pick…

FOURTH ROUND
No. 121 — Nikolai Prokhorkin, LW, CSKA (Russia)

FIFTH ROUND
No. 151 — Colin Miller, D, Sault Ste. Marie (OHL)

SIXTH ROUND
No. 171 — Tomas Hyka, RW, Gatineau (QMJHL)
No. 181 — Paul LaDue, D, Lincoln (USHL)

SEVENTH ROUND
No. 183 — The Kings traded this pick to Dallas for a 2013 seventh-round pick.
No. 211 — Nick Ebert, D, Windsor (OHL)

[ALSO: Lukas Sutter, Darryl Sutter's nephew (Rich's son) was drafted in the second round (No. 39) by Winnipeg.]

Second round is flying by. Four hours for the first round, half an hour for round 2. Wonder what the Kings do today..

I’ve met and chatted with both of the Sutter twins (Rich and Ron). Rich is the far more talkative and outgoing of the two. Ron is very quiet. When I met Rich is son, Lucas, was with him. He was a preschooler then. Hard to believe he’s old enough now to be drafted. Good luck Lucas! The Sutters are all great people!!

dang Kings..trading away picks…how can we build this team if we dont pick again till the 4th round…This 5 year plan is not going to work….

@neil, The 5 year plan worked when you won the cup a few days ago. Don’t expect to win it every year. Sounds like you have already moved on from this GREAT year! DON’T. I am a Monarch’s season ticket holder, BUT also a Bruins fan and it was hard to watch them bow out to the Caps in the 1st round. It is VERY TOUGH to repeat! Enjoy this championship while you can cause it doesn’t last forever.

Nikolai Prokhorkin has had a lot of success playing as a center instead of his listed wing position and really excels as a center. Because he doesn’t play in a lot of major international events. With his above-average skill at puck-handling and his hockey sense and vision he easily becomes the focal point of attacks and with his passing ability can set up the shot without over-passing. He doesn’t have to rely on his pass to make a play though. He can just as easily put the puck in the net himself if his ice vision shows him that is the only option. The only problem I see with Prokhorkin is at 6’2” he is really lean and needs to put on some muscle. Of course this won’t stop him from playing North American hockey at any level.

@Harry, I like the skill level and pick, but will take nickelback over the Russian techno on the hightlight reel any day.

Alain Vigneault on the Kings “they steamrolled over everyone.” Nice comments, Alain. Kings getting due props from an opposing coach. Also gave props for thelay of Brown, Kopitar, and Quick in the series when they faced us.

Miller can drop the gloves and Hyka is a smallish RW that scored 20 goals and had 44 assists in 50 games in Gatineau.

compared to Claude Giroux and Philly couldn’t sign him, so a reentry into the draft.

Any idea what we got for pick 183? It’s listed as now belonging to Dallas.

@Buster, No idea. Thats what im trying to find out.

@Buster, knowing Lombardi, he didn’t see anything he wanted, so he traded it for something next year. Probably a 6th or 7th in 2013. I couldn’t find anything concrete either..
