Drew Doughty’s attorney, Craig Renetzky, posted on Twitter today — and confirmed in a follow-up phone conversation — that no decision would be announced today by the district attorney regarding possible charges against Doughty, who has been accused of sexual assault. Renetzky had believed that a decision would be announced today, but now it appears as though it will not happen until Monday at the earliest.

I dont’ understand why there is no decision. I guess I think of things being simple like this…
You investigate…it either happened or didn’t. You have enough evidence to charge, or you don’t. You make a decision. They should know whether or not they are going to charge. Why wait until next week now?
Ah well, I will say Innocent as he has not been charged and you are innocent until proven guilty in this country. Or at least that’s the way it’s supposed to work.

@eskymi, In the court of public opinion, sadly that is no longer true. And as we all know, ruining a reputation is far easier than resurrecting it.
As for the ‘why’ it’s taking so long, there could be a thousand reasons. Maybe someone else came forward or some other lead popped up. Those things take time to suss out. Or maybe Gloria Alred made some legal move that delays the decision. Who knows.

there are many peeps around the world that still hold him responsible for what he did…
roethlisberger….?
women’s groups were protesting for the steelers to release him – people don’t forget when they are predisposed to one side of infamy or purported dereliction///
tyson might be the lone exception in some ways….
and that brings me to my theory of “america – the comeback!”
i would agree that there’s a large population of peeps out there that attach themselves to the “schadenfreude” mentality….there are many in this world who get off on someone’s downfall from grace and then, are so quickly to forgive them when they attempt to resurrect their career and restore their reputation…
in tyson’s case, how can you say he’s fine…?
he’s become america’s most famous manic depressive and oddity…
i guess he’s embraced that kind of notoriety, but what does that say about him as a person…?…
so infamy, justice and popularity are very convoluted connotations that end up becoming subjective…
but to say those athletes you have mentioned above won’t have some baggage to carry with them throughout their lives, is not true….
there are many out there in this world who still haven’t forgiven or accepted these peeps stories…
and so it goes…:)
he did his time and that should be the end of it…but on his resume is a serious felony….and biting off the ear of evander holyfield didn’t help erasing his volatility and erratic behavior….

@variable, IMO The people who hate on Kobe and Big Ben for the rape accusations against them are people who would hate them regardless. The rape accusation just gives them something to direct their hate about. Have you seen any Lakers fans who hate Kobe? I’m not saying that’s true, but that’s how it looks to me. Certainly there are groups who are against said players because of the accusations, and rightfully so, but it seems like after a short period of time they go away. I can’t remember the last time I heard about the rape accusations against Kobe and Ben while listening to the radio or watching television.
Drew will no doubt recieve some hate in visiting arenas, but he would recieve that hate anyway because he’s one of our best players. As you can CLEARLY see in this blog, fans of Drew will stay fans of Drew unless he is convicted, which he will likely not be.
I don’t mean Mike Tyson is fine, I mean the public perception of him is fine. He’s a wreck, no doubt about that, but it hasn’t stopped him from appearing on Jimmy Kimmell Live fairly regularly. As well as having this upcoming one man show which from all reports, is going to be a big hit.

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com), I did not say that DD raped anyone. You implying that I did is a red herring to distract from the fact that you have been called out for your part in a very distasteful thread here. Rape is a an under-reported crime because of the manner in which victims’ reputations are publicly eviscerated, especially so if they are alleging a wealthy, popular or famous person did it. No matter how this turns out, no matter if there are charges brought or not, a lot of people have gone on the record here to debase the accuser. That plays into the pattern of blaming the victim and makes those people part of a larger problem when it comes the way in which our society deals with sexual violence. I really have better things to do than seemingly champion the cause of an alleged victim in a case that I know nothing about against one of my favorite players. But I feel pretty strongly that I shouldn’t condone some of the shameful language I am seeing here by just ignoring it.
And CB14, i know that you and many, many others here aren’t involved in any of the shameful talk here. I don’t mean to imply that it is universal on this blog.
Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com) Reply:

@paige,
Let’s be very clear Paige. The only red herring here was started by YOU when you said, “Wow. Rape is so funny,” when there was no mention of it whatsoever by me or anyone else IN THIS THREAD.
You should be ashamed of yourself for linking together all the things you mentioned above as if I, or anyone else, is somehow complicit or approving of such things. Own it and apologize.
Harsh language does not equal blaming the victim and it certainly doesn’t equal making fun of a despicable crime. It didn’t happen. Quit trying to connect what was said in this particular instance to all the other things said by other people on other threads.
If you had a problem with this humor then you should have stuck with the choice of language used and not try to make a larger point at the expense of those who find such humor funny.

It’s easy Paige. It was a joke. That’s it. Nothing more. You’re putting me in the position of defending something that I, in no way condone, and you should be ashamed of yourself for doing it. Obviously, if he was serious, then what you say is true. But since he’s joking, then it’s not. Get it? You were upset with what you deem as a distasteful joke and used it as an opportunity to make a bigger point. It backfired. Again, the connections you made are not appropriate for this thread and are highly insulting. If you were joking around then I’d be right there along with you, but you’re not, so please stop it. As a former prosecutor and from what I’ve read in the paper, I don’t believe they have enough evidence against Drew right now cuz if they did, they would have filed charges by now. Normally, a case will be filed if the evidence is there, and if more evidence is uncovered later to support a different or additional crime, the complaint can be amended. Prosecutors normally want to file what they can as soon as they can to get the case in the system. The longer it takes to make a filing decision, the more likely that no charges will be filed. Based on experience, the DA is crossing every t and dotting every i to CYA when they don’t file anything.
It’s sad that Drew has to go through this, but I hope he learns from this and realizes he’s a good target for any girl looking to make a dime, and there are plenty out there.

imo….
something went wrong with doughty and “miss x”…
and the thing that went wrong was doughty’s naivete that this couldn’t happen to him…
i’ve said this before….
if doughty is cleared of all charges, he should never approach these situations the same way again…this should accelerate his mindset and maturity when it comes to casual sex…
like it or not, athletes are prime targets of grifters, scam artists and unscrupulous people…
there isn’t a vetting process when someone meets someone in a casual, heat of the moment situation…which reminds me of that scene from the dated movie “amazon women on the moon”, where rosanna arquette requires two forms of i.d. and performs a background and credit check before she allows her blind date to enter her place….
famous athletes have plenty of people around them who can help them avoid these situations…we still are unsure of how many of doughty’s teammates were on the scene before the two went to hail a taxi…but friends protect friends…teammates protect teammates…
i don’t want to insinuate that there’s some richards/carter influence going around the team…however, you can’t help but think that there might have been some teasing going on from his teammates that were supposedly present during their preliminary interaction…it was reported that the woman supposedly called drew an a-hole in front of his teammates…if that was the words that prompted drew to put himself in a dicey situation, he must treat that situation the same way he would treat it when some fan from new jersey echoes the same sentiments from afar as he enters the ice….
pride is a badge of honor…and in front of teammates, it can become unavoidable to confront when one’s manhood is challenged…but whatever the outcome is, drew should learn a valuable lesson in life – their are people out there that can ruin yr career and life instantly with one bad decision….if drew was unaware to this fact before, he certainly isn’t now….

“there isn’t a vetting process when someone meets someone in a casual, heat of the moment situation”
I’m thinking there is actually. I’d be surprised if there isn’t some way to explain to someone what’s up and what they have to do to gain entry so-to-speak.

As I eluded to a few days back when I said that I have no idea who the mystery “teammates” where, but I was willing to bet then that they were older than 3D. and hopefully more wise, too.
As much as my gut tends to the the Philly boys were around, I would be just as relieved to find out that it wasnt them as much as I will be relieved when I find out that no charges are to be made.

I thought you meant a friend protects a friend because they are simply a friend and not for any character related reason. I guess by ‘protect’ you meant somehow preventing Drew from getting in a taxi with some woman?
You said, “whatever the outcome is, drew should learn a valuable lesson.”
I just disagree with this. Sometimes you can do everything in your power to make sure something doesn’t go wrong and then it does through no fault of your own, despite your best intentions. For all we know, that’s exactly what happened.
As for teammates at the bar and a taxi, do we have any confirmation from Drew or the Police that these are indeed facts?

@PAULY,
“I guess by ‘protect’ you meant somehow preventing Drew from getting in a taxi with some woman?”
that’s what i was eluding to, if they were present and aware of drew being vulnerable at the time…
“As for teammates at the bar and a taxi, do we have any confirmation from Drew or the Police that these are indeed facts?”
it has been reported by several news agencies that this was the case…now, it might come out as being untrue in the days to come…but i wouldn’t expect either drew or the police to say anything publicly about that situation until everything is said and done…and even then, i don’t think drew is inclined to explain what happened…that’s his choice if he wants to step into the public conversation///
however, part of the incident had been leaked to the media…if those initial reports are wrong, then it was the media that jumped to conclusions – not me…
i have been saying all along that we don’t know all the facts and that no one should be judging anything regarding guilt or innocence…
but i do believe it is very fair for me to don the opinion “whatever the outcome is, drew should learn a valuable lesson”…fame brings out the freaks…that should be going though his mind if there;s another moment in time he’s placed in the same/similar situation…
however, i strongly agree with you when you say “Sometimes you can do everything in your power to make sure something doesn’t go wrong and then it does through no fault of your own, despite your best intentions.”
but when you say “For all we know, that’s exactly what happened.”….
well that could be presumptuous…because as we’ve both have said many times already – we don’t have all the facts just yet….

@Paul Armbruster, there’s a little something that people say regarding “best intentions” but my favorite is when Jules Winfield got distracted during Brett’s answer to a certain question, and Jules said “please continue, you were saying something about BEST INTENTIONS?”
And wrt to the “teammates” my assumption that there was any was the fact that the woman made reference to 3D being emberassed in front of his teammates by her rejecting him… That was only time anyone else was mentioned.

@variable, that movie is AWESOME!! the Aresnio skit always cracked me up but the other eye candy scenes made it hit with us boys at the time too.

I know the girl who is accusing him(not personally but if you go to hermosa on even a somewhat regular basis you will know who she is). Lets just say Im in the camp that thinks Doughty is innocent. Shes a Hermosa beach / Sharkys bar fly! Im not sure why Doughty even gave the girl the time of day. Again based on what i know of the situation (not much really other than who the girl is) its all a get rich quick scheme! Dont settle Doughty!!! fight her and dont give her a penny of that 56 Mil or whatever it was. Im no justice system and this is again only my opinion but if anything it was 2 consenting adults and unfortunatly one was a professional athlete millionaire and the other a professional bar slut that has $$$ signs in her eyes.

@BrokeKingsFan, I wonder if she’s been partying there since this went down or if she’s been “advised” to lay low for awhile…
It’s only a matter of time until he identity is leaked out, just like Kobe’s accuser’s was. And then the public humiliation will be relentless.

@Stuart, Thats a good question! Im assuming the answer is she has been advised to lay low. She is well known and I couldnt imagine people just turning the blind eye to the situation and not saying something to her(even though the press hasnt released her name most peole in the area know who it is). She happens to be emoployed in hermosa as well and again my assumption would be her employer probably told her the same thing. I could give you some serious specifics but i dont think its my place to do so. Well see soon enough though im sure.

That thread awhile back about chaperoning
Doughty, turns out to be more serious than we thought at the time..
Rape is a serious heinous crime…We don’t really know the truth as yet…
I understand the female fans outrage of the “crazy bitch” comments….
While we try to keep this subject light on this development…
Let’s never forget the ugliness of this crime and the emotions it can evoke…

@SLIM, You forgot about the equally heinous crime of falsely accusing someone. Let’s not forget about that either. And it shouldn’t matter what your gender is in either case. All that aside, one can make light of things and take them seriously at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive.

@Paul Armbruster (KingsNewsDaily.com),
i mentioned this in response to SAMMUCH above. when he asked if charges can be filed against someone who files a false report..:
“they actual can file charges against anyone who files false claims….usually they do this when they feel the person doing the false charging do so with malice, preemption and/or tact…”

Without substantiation I am just going to blame the SEIU for the delay. DA’s may have Fridays off.

@ashykins, Nash going to an already strong west team doesnt change our defensive approach. If penner and stoll are gone, then there are some changes we need.

@ashykins, it was our defense and goalie that got us into the play offs. If anything, i would be willing to let forwards go so we could afford to keep Quick in goal.

@ashykins, i see what you’re saying. You have to take into consideration that DS came in half way through the season to the second lowest scoring team, with one of the worst PP’s. Next season, we will be a different kind of beast. DS will mold offense and defense to his liking and most probably with a new PP coach.
Things will be different, and im sure our offense will be much more improved. We still have kopi, DB, Carter, Richards, Gagne, williams and the rest of the guys..
I bet the girl is a ducks fan and just wanted to sabotage Doughty’s chances of winning the cup. This is supported by her saying Doughty’s punishment should be not winning the cup, which according to the investigators in an interview, was the first red flag. About no decision today, I’m not surprised seeing that it was handed to the DA yesterday.

Don’t know how many have seen this but, of all the videos I’ve seen of the playoffs, this one is the creme de la creme. The song is: Diamond eyes — Shinedown
