A couple things for the evening… First, a couple nice stories about player/coach relationships involving Jonathan Quick and Rob Scuderi at the college level…
Quick gave goalie coach a perfect parting gift
Russian coach celebrates Scuderi’s second Cup
Also, many have asked about the pregame videos the Kings showed on the video board just before the start of each game. In essence, the videos didn’t change much throughout the playoffs, but they were tweaked a bit, with different photos and video clips. Here is the final video, the one showed at Thursday’s championship rally in Staples Center. It is followed by a full video of the rally itself. Well, not totally full. A bit of Jonathan Quick’s speech is, ahem, clipped…
pret-tay, pret-tay cool stuff…
i saw the panger interview with quick before…and you really get to see the emotion come out of quick during it…
great stories all around…
winning cures everything…:)

Wondering what other free agents people might want besides Parise. I know I am committing blasphamy but I really like Doan and Whitney, which would basically be the heart and soul of Phoenix. Whitney’s an old guy but he can still play and Doan is Doan. Can you imagine a team with Brown and Doan on it. That would be some kind of hitting. I doubt Smith has the guts to cheap shot Doan like he did Brown…

@LA_1968, I would like Whitney more than Doan. Yes, Doan is physical, but don’t we have enough of that already? Whitney is Offensive Lightning in a twist top bottle. I also think he would be less expensive to sign. I know he is old, but we have young players a year or 2 away, but to win the cup again we will need to have a bit more consistant O. We can’t expect next years team to be as hungry and tear it up on the road in the playoffs.

Of course, My Uncle Gary has a long history of making confident and competent decisions.
He wouldn’t have arrived where he is today otherwise.
Other than that he is a complete slave to the wishes of the owners, and by the same token my non-uncle, Donald Fehr is 100% responsible to the players themselves.
Surely, any interruption of the the 2012/13 season will be the faults of these two brotherhoods, not down to the perceived egos of those two incorrigibly megalomaniacal millionaires!

The intro video always gave me chills at every game in the playoffs and made the eyes a little watery… Made me get this song off itunes. “Take those [stay-at-home defensemen] out for dinner as much as you can. Those guys are going to save your bacon.”, says Jim Stewart.
In fairness to Jonathan Quick who did nothing but wrap himself in glory all year, his stay-at-home defensemen, aided and abetted by the offensive D and backchecking forwards, were utterly outstanding all year and totally saved the Kings from being blown out in games where we couldn’t score to save our lives!!
If he followed Coach Stewart’s words, JQ should be quite a few dinners lighter.
But if the world is fair, he ought now to be being celebrated at some of Vegas’s most elite culinary destinations by all and sundry involved with the LA Kings.
If I ever see him in a restaurant I happen to be eating at (Pahrump has several decent diners and taco stands) dinner and drinks will most certainly be on me.
As a fan, Jonathan Quick has saved my emotional bacon on uncountable occasions!!

The strangest thing is that I actually sang this song at a karaoke night on the Kings Fan Cruise 2009. The three kings that were on the cruise all showed up that night for karaoke with all these women i guess they met on the cruise. It was hilarious. I dedicated the song to the kings and Teddy Purcell I guess really likes My Chemical Romance cause he got up on stage and started dancing… and he hit me on the rear end a few times. I think it impressed the ladies he was with too.. Wayne Simmonds and Davis Drewiske were also there but they weren’t as excited as Teddy was. I got to spend another hour or so with Teddy at the next dance club but I was too young to drink at the time and ended up going back to my room where my dad was already asleep… I woke him up to tell him about it though…
And now, that they are using this song to represent their roster’s childhood and this years championship, just gives me the chills like never before… It’s as if that night foreshadowed the near destiny of the kings..?? I dunno but it was pretty spectacular. That night was the most memorable experience I’ve ever had with NHL players obviously.
P.S.
Its a damn near impossible song to sing, really takes vocal talent, i think i lost pitch about half way through the song but it was still worth it!!!

@Steve W, well the voting was already completed at the conclusion of the regular season, so unfortunately Quick gets hurt on two counts:
1) his epic playoff run doesn’t count
2) most people seemed to only really really notice Quick in the playoffs and then realized how good he’s been for the last 2+ years or so, whereas Henrik got more attention in the regular season.

Off topic, but it’s great to be the new NHL model for building a championship team. Check out this quote by Todd McLellan about the Sharks desires for next season:
McLellan said he learned quite a bit watching the final three rounds of the playoffs. But he stressed the team needs to improve its penalty killing, a more aggressive forecheck, more shot blocking and a stronger defensive emphasis without overhauling the entire system.
Haha!
