Postgame notes (June 11)

Some notes from last night’s game…

— The Kings won the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history, as they beat the New Jersey Devils 6-1 in Game 6 on Monday night at Staples Center. The Kings won the series 4-2.

— The Kings became the first No. 8 seed to win the Stanley Cup.

— Jonathan Quick was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. In 20 playoff games, Quick stopped 509 of 538 shots (.946 save percentage). In the Stanley Cup Finals, Quick stopped 125 of 132 shots (.947 save percentage). Quick’s total playoff save percentage is tied for the highest in NHL playoff history, among goalies with at least 10 games. Ottawa’s Patrick Lalime also had a .946 save percentage in 2002.

— In the playoffs, Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar tied for the team high with eight goals and 20 assists.

— The Kings improved their record to 4-4 with a chance to clinch a series in this postseason.

— In 20 playoff games, the Kings outscored their opponents by a combined total of 57-30 and trailed for a total of 184 minutes, 8 seconds.

— The Kings outshot the Devils 25-18, including 13-4 in the first period.

— The Kings went 3-for-9 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. With three power-play goals, the Kings tied the franchise single-game playoff high. The Kings also had three power-play goals on May 27, 1993, against Toronto. In the playoffs, the Kings had an 12.8-percent success rate on the power play and a 92.1-percent success rate on the penalty kill.

— The Kings finished the playoffs by going 6-3 at home, 10-1 on the road, 11-1 when scoring the first goal, 5-3 when allowing the first goal, 8-1 when leading after the first period and 9-0 when leading after the second period.

— Dustin Brown had one goal and two assists, including one power-play goal and one power-play assist, to push his playoff totals to eight goals and 12 assists. In 32 career playoff games, Brown has 10 goals and 17 assists.

— Jeff Carter had two goals, including a power-play goal, to push his playoff totals to eight goals and 13 points. In 67 career playoff games, Carter has 21 goals and 13 assists.

— Trevor Lewis had two goals, including a power-play goal, to push his playoff totals to three goals and nine points. In 27 career playoff games, Lewis has four goals and nine assists.

— Drew Doughty had two assists, both on the power play, to push his playoff totals to 12 assists and 16 points. Doughty had three goals and five assists in his last seven games. In 32 career playoff games, Doughty has nine goals and 18 assists.

— Dwight King had two assists, including one on the power play, to push his playoff totals to three assists and eight points.

— Mike Richards had two assists, both on the power play, to push his playoff totals to 11 assists and 15 points. In 83 career playoff games, Richards has 20 goals and 45 assists.

— Anze Kopitar had one assist, his 12th assist and 20th point of the playoffs. In 26 career playoff games, Kopitar has 10 goals and 15 assists.

— Jarret Stoll had one assist, his third assist and fifth point of the playoffs. In 55 career playoff games, Stoll has seven goals and 12 assists.

— Jeff Carter and Jarret Stoll each recorded a team-high three shots on goal. Jarret Stoll was credited with a team-high seven hits. Anze Kopitar and Slava Voynov each were credited with a team-high two blocked shots.

— Drew Doughty led the Kings in ice time, at a game-high 27 minutes, 31 seconds, followed by Willie Mitchell, at 24:29. Justin Williams led all Kings forwards in ice time, at 20:24, followed by Anze Kopitar, at 20:15.

— The Kings won 34 of 53 faceoffs (64 percent). Anze Kopitar won 9 of 18 draws (50 percent). Jarret Stoll won 10 of 16 draws (63 percent). Mike Richards won 10 of 13 draws (77 percent).
