The whirlwind continues for the Stanley Cup champion Kings. This afternoon, Dustin Brown took the Stanley Cup to visit Jay Leno and “The Tonight Show,” then went from Burbank to Hollywood to meet up with some teammates for a taping of tonight’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” show. Tomorrow, the Kings (and the Cup) will be at Dodger Stadium for a first-pitch ceremony, and of course Thursday afternoon is the championship parade and rally. I went up to Hollywood today to check out the taping, so here’s a look…
(Kevin Westgarth, still thirsty.)

(It’s been a long day for Dustin Brown and his dad.)

(Rob Scuderi, with his souvenirs from Steve Bernier.)

(Rob Scuderi and Jonathan Quick.)

(Team getting ready for a “bumper” spot.)

(Kevin Westgarth decided to start reading the inside of the Cup.)

(Rob Scuderi takes a drink for a “bumper” spot.)

(Martin Short isn’t afraid to pick a fight.)

(Martin Short with the Kings.)

(Martin Short, a native Canadian, gets a drink.)

This has probably been addressed, but it’s impossible to read every comment in every post, but according to thihttp://proicehockey.about.com/od/stanleycupbunker/f/stanley_cup_nam.htms:
Westgarth, Drewiske, Loktionov won’t get their names on the Cup. Nor will Hunter or Moreau. And what about JJ?

@jimbo1007, They aren’t automatic…. Hunter and Moreau and JJ won’t for obvious reasons… Westgarth and Drewiski can petition to have their names added and I’d think will get it since they were with the big club all season and have been with the big club multiple seasons.

@YooperSkip 24, at least one finals game. Lokti never played a finals game. I totally agree that Lokti, Whiskey and Westgarth should be petitioned to have their names on the cup though, because they were indeed with the big boys most of the season.
Mickey Keenan Reply:

@jimbo1007, There is room for a total of 52 names (I think it is 52). Typically injured players, guys that have been on the team for the whole season, etc… those petitions get approved, they are a mere formality, assuming there is room. Once all the active players have been added, and the Kings submit their list of all names… whatever is left can be filled by petitions, or left blank.

@Mickey Keenan, will they petition for terry murray’s name too? & what about scott parse? lokti, westy, and drewiske all deserve to have their names on it, and Bernier too. I’m not sure if there is a separate criteria for the backup goalie

@Dimebag Devil,,
As I understood it, loyal Devils turncoat, Steve Bernier was made (and glady accepted
the mantle of) an honorary King for the after party.
In the interests of democracy (ironically – or not?) Slava Voynov was deemed a temporary “red” in exchange, although it was considered he was acting just a little too consortingly for the … “privelege”
In the meantime, recent Devil’s announcer and undercover agent at NBC, Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick was allegedly witnessed drinking out of the ‘Prince of Wales’ until in wee hours, last night.
Rather sheepishly, the Prince of Wales for his part claimed to be tucked up in bed several rooms away!
The diabolical ‘Doc’ meanwhile, was apparently unavailable for vomit ….

It’s great to see the team having so much fun and being recognized like this for a fantastic achievement. I am so happy for them.
I still can’t believe it’s all real. I’ve been a Kings fan since 1978 and haven’t stopped smiling since we got the 5th goal and I finally felt like I could relax and enjoy it finally. My only regret is missing out on going to the rally. I almost wish the Kings had just said this was a private event for season ticket holders only rather than get our hopes up that there would be ‘general admission’ tickets available. I tried exactly at 6pm and they were all gone.

I was happy but you know after all these years the only thing that ties me back to when i started watching is them. The players have changed, coaches ect. I just wish they would have let them call that game. I understand why and I also know they will re broadcast with them calling it but it’s not the same. The funny thing is when i heard Nick’s call that was on the radio i actually teared up. @FKA PakiFro, I recorded the end of the CBC broadcast yesterday so I will def give it a go! It has to be better then Doc and Eddie O talking over the celebration. very classless. I’m almost positive that had it been CHI or NJD who had won it both those jerks would’ve been dead silent and let the home crowd be as one with the game crowd. Instead I had to hear Doc reprimand our captain in his creaky voice “he might like to have that word back…” STFU doc!!!
[Reply]
I know we’re all still basking in the glory of winning the cup but the Kings do have some housekeeping issues that will have to be addressed this off season.
Stoll and Penner are UFA’s..not sure who else is either UFA or RFA.
Also on SI this morning they mentioned that Parise is at the top of the Kings wish list. Can we afford another long term big $$ deal?
Also JQ will need to be extended at some point as well.
I would hope the Kings can bring Stoll back but as Waves (Paul) mentioned yesterday, it would have to be at a home team discount. When he plays the way he did during the playoffs, he’s a solid, solid #3 center. great PK and faceoff guy who brings a lot of energy and physicality. It would be an easy decision except you have to weigh his regular season as well, which was pretty crappy!
I don’t see Penner accepting a discount to stay and I’m not sure the Kings would want to go that route anyway. The 2nd line role would seem to be a landing spot for Gagne next year.
Pens was terrific in the playoffs, but his regular season also needs to be considered. That was even worse than Stoll.
Any thoughts on the Kings off season?
[Reply]
Stuart Reply:
June 13th, 2012 at 10:10 am
@nykingfan, I agree about JS… I hope he sees the forest from the trees and takes the ht discount. He’s a niche player nowadays, and what’s that really going to fetch him on the market? Does he even want to leave the LA lifestyle (I think that will go a long way)? I see him staying from somewhere around a 2M cap hit for 2 years…maybe even a supersweetheart ht discount around 1.5M/year but that would be a DRASTIC paycut for anyone to take…
wrt to Penner… my heart wants him back, but my head says don’t even offer him a contract. He did us way wrong all year long, granted he was having very serious personal issues, and what not, but still, unless he asks to stay for under a million with possible incentive laden elements, I say let him walk and put King on the second or work in one of the young guys in MAN…
I know SG is under contract for one more year, but I kind of hope he retires (especially if Penner stays) so that a spot will open up. But if he’s healthy and he stays, so be it. I can’t see him being healthy for a full season anyway, so someone from MAN should see time, regardless.
All in all, problems I’ll gladly deal with now that we’re
STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!

@nykingfan,
Fraser and Parse are 2 others.
With the defense basically intact, without signing a free agent, or resigning any of the UFA’s,
that would leave, at most 3 open spots at forward.
With that limited amount of openings, I wonder if a few of the older players in Manchester might look to play elsewhere (Europe, KHL) like Holloway and Moeller did.

@nykingfan, I believe that Stoll’s difficulties early on in the season mainly stemmed from the fact that he was being mis-used. Once he was plugged into the 3rd line center position he started to become effective. I hope to see him in a Kings uniform next season. As far as Penner is concerned, I wish him well but I seriously doubt he’ll be back next year unless he takes a huge pay cut.

@cav pilot,
Penner wants to say. He made the big money on his last contract after leaving a winning team. He will take a big pay cut and stay. He had an amazing playoff run and if he can parlay that into a halfway decent season, he is worth 2 mill a year. I wouldn’t go any higher than that though. Stoll would have to take a discount and we are going to have to give JQ the farm. He should have won the Hart, Vezina and Conn Smyth this year. Let’s just enjoy this for a few weeks before we start all this backseat managing. WOW is all I can say. WOW. They did it!!!!!

Can we get a Key Three for the entire season? I’m having withdrawals.

I had a “malfunction” last night. I tried to record the Kings Live after the game 6 replay on Fox Sports West last night and somehow it didn’t work. Does anybody know of a way to get a copy? I searched Youtube with no luck.

@Pili,
I just happen to click on it last night. It wasn’t called Kings Live, it was listed as UFC something or other.

@RobSD, Thanks Rob. I actually got the first 10 minutes of it, but for some reason it wasn’t on even close to what the DirecTV guide said. Hopefully it’ll be at the end of the DVD with Bob & Jim calling the action.

Watched the broadcast of Kimmel last night. Kimmel is so knowledgeable about hockey. His questions were great. Loved it!!!

@LuckyEleven,
I watch Kimmel nightly and he is always knowledgeable on whatever the guest is all about. Rumor is he is a great guy, not like Letterman and Leno, who are obviously very phony.

@RobSD, most definitely. Kimmel was the sports guy for 106.7 KROQ Kevin & Bean morning radio show for many years. That’s where he got his start so it wasn’t a surprise to me. Kevin is a HUGE Kings fan too. It’s just awesome to have a fan asking all the right questions about winning the cup. I didn’t even bother to tune into Leno.

@Renbe,
Um… how many seats does the Staples Center have during hockey?
Who won the 2012 Stanley Cup??

Spent 12 hours in the sack recooperating from all of the festivities. Hope all Insiders are well. So happy for the Kings and for us fans. It’s funny how something like this can change your perspective on things. Traffic isn’t such a bother, long lines at the super market aren’t so long, the work load and the due dates don’t seem so urgent…etc. Having a constant smile all day is a nice thing too.

I don’t even know how these can walk after 2 extra months of hockey and the run just to get in. I think I would just lay in bed for about 4 days. Must be adrenaline. The only natural substance worth it. WEll…..I won’t go into that.. Great to see the boys gaining exposure. Important to the sport.

The only way I was able to get tickets to the rally was to purchase them as single seats. I’m not a season ticket holder but was able to get tickets at the 2:00 email subscriber pre-sale.
