For those who can’t sleep — or maybe those up early on the East Coast — here’s the picture you’ve all been waiting for: Bob Miller lifting the Stanley Cup. Dustin Brown, at right, presented it to him in the postgame party. Nick Nickson, left, cheers on. Many more photos to come shortly.

Not possible. Photoshopped.

@Coach Mike, I had the same one would you believe it was a 6-1 blowout. We even got a well officiated game. This thing call a Power Play allowed use to get 3 goals on a major penalty. It was bizzare I’ve never seen anything like it players skated around making the PKs move instead of staying still and just sliding the puck along the half wall and behind the net. Bizzare must of ate some spoiled meat.

@OffsideRush,
You’re so right, OffsideRush! Of the three great LA play-by-play men, Bob is the last to see his team win it all. It’s perfect.
What a wonderful man. For those of you who don’t know, Bob always has time for the fans – especially the kids. I don’t know another person on the planet anymore who I am certain will greet my 9-year old boys with a firm handshake, a warm smile, and a look in the eye. Then he’ll ask a question and engage in conversation (and all of this on the way to an elevator among adoring fans!).
Bob epitomizes class, dedication, and hard work.
We have been so lucky to experience so much of our Kings fandom through his eyes. Congratulations, Bob!
Great role model for us all.

@BringBackMarcel,
Finally, Bob, Vinney and Chick!
No one, and I mean no one deserves that Cup more than Bob Miller.
He is a walking history of NHL Hockey in LA and the southwestern states long before there was a Ducks team or Coyotes. Players have come and gone, so have GMs, Coaches and even Ownership – but the steady through-line of the Kings follows Bob Miller.
Thank you Bob for all you have done for the game of hockey, the Kings, and getting my daughters hooked on hockey. I look at that picture, and I can just image Brownie whispering in Bob’s ear, “Yeah, we won this one for you!”

@IceGuy, I totally agree. I think I was happiest for Bob Miller. I started watching the Kings in 1975 when the they were usually .500 but still made the playoffs. Bob and Rich Marotta standing on camera with their noses practically touching was so hilarious. He’s had to endure so much playoff heartbreak, like a few mid-70′s great playoffs series vs. the Boston Bruins where the Kings battled them as equals, Butch Goring, Tommy Williams, Rogie, Don Kozak, Dave Shultz, Bert Wilson, Mike Murphy, Dave Hutchinson, Gary Sargent, etc. etc. I just wish we could have listen to Bob call the Finals. Every time Mike ‘Cheapshot Coward’ Milbury opened his mouth I just though, shut up. Milbury.
Thanks Rich – What a way to start my day! Just brings more tears to my eyes

Through all the disappointing seasons, all the great and not so great players, all the playoff upsets, all the seasons we didn’t make the playoffs, Dionne, Robitaille, Nicholls, Gretzky, Blake, sellout crowds, nights when saying the old forum was half full was stretching it, paying close to $100 a ticket, paying $5 for a student ticket, Bob Miller was always there.
He spoke at my High School 35 years ago. And then he stayed with a small group of students while we all talked about what the Kings “needed to get” (and since it was so long ago obviously didn’t).
Just as classy a guy now as he was back then.
Broadcasters will tell you it’s all about the players, they have only been there to see it happen.

@Stuart, I wouldn’t say it was a stunted version. The show ran almost an hour before Bob & Jim left the set. They showed a profuse amount of highlights from all the playoff series including highlight packages of many of the Kings. They broke down the stats and the highlights. The show was everything I expected from a SC winning show for the Kings that I expected. Have it on DVR and will watch it again today (and probably more times in the next weeks….)

Hey Rich, as a photographer, it’s that old thing….. preparation meeting luck (?) or something like that. The way I see it, knowing how important Bob is to all of us, had you not snapped at that exact millisecond, we never get to see just how thrilled he was. And that makes every one of us very happy indeed.

Wow, I just came across this site. I regret I hadn’t seen it much earlier in the season. Rich, I’m sure you’re going to keep it going next year! I saw two Kings’ games in January — a shoot out loss to the Avalanche and a one-goal loss to Phoenix.
I thought, well the Kings are competitive but too bad they can’t quite put it away. And then in February, they lost several games by one goal and I remember seeing a comment from Daryl Sutter on how they just couldn’t score … pucks hitting the posts, sliding across the goal line.
It was great to see how they put it together in March and stormed through the playoffs … what a remarkable post-season record.

You deserve it, Bob!!! Here’s to another 40+ years of you being behind the mic!!!! We love you, Mr. Miller!!!
[Reply]
Well deserved Bob! You’re like a grandfather to me, having grown up watching you on Kings telecasts through the years. Congrats on this very special moment!
[Reply]
Wonderful! Just wonderful!
Thank you, Rich, not only for providing us with the incredible photo of our beloved Bob Miller triumphantly holding the Stanley Cup, but for enriching our experience as Kings’ fans with all your stellar work.

Wow – what a site to see! Love Bob and all the Kings. Love the Insiders too!!!

One of my favorite photos of all time.

Bob Miller will go down in history as the Greatest LA King of them all! Icing on the cake, as one poster just wrote…..I recall him and Foxy having to leave the set of KINGS LIVE (which we had to wait until 11:35 after the dang Dodger/Angels game)because they were ushered inside…..no doubt to hold the cup up HIGH!
Thanks Bob!!!!
[Reply]
Nearly brings tears to my eyes, Bob truly deserves his time with the CUP. I don’t think I’m reaching saying that he’ll be doing it again real soon. Thanks Bob and also Jim for always keeping us LA KINGS fans honest and for keeping us fans of such a GREAT SPORT. For those who have followed the team as long as we have and the new welcomed Bandwagon ride alongs, it’s a great feeling waking up in the morning and reading and seeing the videos and pictures that we have attained LORD STANLEY’S CUP
“In LA”. Again I will say this by far beats any LAKER or Dodger Championship that I have ever experienced. Wish my Wife & I and Kids were back home to enjoy it with the rest of the KINGS Fans.
Will definitely be making my summer visit to Staples with the whole Family.
Thanks for giving us that at home feeling during the season Bob and Jim when we were able to catch the games on the internet, and you to Nick Nickson. When the game was blacked out We made the most of it listening to you on the live feed over the internet also.
Thanks for A GREAT YEAR>>>GKGGOKINGSGOGKG, already can’t wait til next YEAR

[Reply]
I was hoping I could see him hoist the Cup live!! And I really wish I/we could of heard him call the game!! You know the emotion would have been so there!! Heck, NBC cut away before the celebration was even near over….had to go to NBC sports…buzz kill!!! Stoked the Kings did it!!!! KINGS!!!!!!!

So, so happy to see that joy on Bob’s face! This has been amazing! So glad to see this moment. Bob is a living legend, and deserves this. I know if anyone could love the Kings more than me, it’s surely Bob Miller. I have enjoyed every minute over the last 3 decades with him, and couldn’t be happier now!

FSW messed up by not holding Kings Live in the rink. Shows how professional Bob and Jim are when they were doing the show on the balcony, when they really belonged on the ice with the rest of the organization. DVR is set for Kings playoff marathon which I will be reliving tonight!
GO BOB GO!!! Enjoy the Cup!!
[Reply]
Best. Picture. Ever!!!

I am so happy Dustin did this for Bob…

Bob is pretty strong! I saw some of the boys have some trouble lifting the cup last night. Not Bob Miller! He has been dreaming of this moment just like the rest of us. It still seems so surreal. Thank you Kings!

Congrats Bob Miller! You are the heart of the kings. You are the biggest and truest Kings’ fan! You got us through the tough times, Dave Taylor’s concussion, playoff loses, player trades. You were there when Warren Weebie sang the nation anthem. My dad has been a Kings fan since he became a hockey fan (Miracle on Ice), my sister and I grew up playing street hockey and are Kings fans, and now my two year old son dances to the music the Kings play during their games. Bob Miller, you (and Jamie Fox) are the voice of the Kings and a voice that has provided commentary and support through out the years. Thanks for your dedication to this franchise. Enjoy!

After all the excitement of winning the Stanley Cup, you posted the one picture that means so much to all of us! Rich, thank you so much for everything you do, and have done for us, as fans. We are so lucky to have you!
[Reply]
No one deserves this more than long-suffering Bob Miller. I remember listening to the Miracle on Manchester when I was 12 on radio (I didn’t have cable). He and the Kings are one. So happy for the dude!!! What a run. Go Kings Go!

This should be on the front page of LA Times Sports on Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the best sports pictures of all time for me. Bob is definitely like family, I’m so glad he was able to experience this. I hope we get many more years of listing to his calls.
Now, Kings and NBC: “We Want the DVD… We Want the DVD…”

@Minnesota Kings Fan,
I believe this is from Bob’s appearance on AM570 this morning. They asked him to recite his championship call.
[Reply]
What a great picture. The only thing that might have been better is if they had invited Bob onto the ice and Brown handed him the Cup instead of Mitchell!
Thank you, Rich. This blog is the greatest!
[Reply]
Go Bob Go!
Beautiful!
[Reply]
Not bad for a 70+ year old .. I wonder if his shoulders hurt now ..
Heres to a consumate professional. The only time I ever heard his voice crack on the air was the typing goal on the “Miracle on Manchester” game .. a perfectly understandable reaction, by the way. I was at the game but used my then brand new VHS recorder to tape the game so I could hear the call and relive the game.

This photo made me weep with joy

I’m so so so happy the Kings won the cup. I’m also very happy that the voice of the Kings has finally gotten a chance to hoist the Stanley Cup. Let’s hope Bob keeps going strong for many years to come.
[Reply]
Bob, I’ve been listening to you from the the time you started with the kings. So happy the kings won the cup. Even happier you were there. I wish you could could have called the final it would been so much sweeter. You deserve this
[Reply]
YES!!!!!!!!!!!! GO BOB!!!!!!!!!!!!
[Reply]
PRICELESS PIC! …that picture represents everything this run was about. Bob has had to see his other fellow LA broadcasters celebrate with trophies and banners year after year, as did the rest of us. To see Bob lifting Lord Stanleys Cup while Nick looks on…..wow! crazy goosebumps.
[Reply]
I’ve been a Kings fan for as long as I can remember but the one person I am the happiest for is Bob Miller. He is a total class act. To see him lifting the Stanley Cup only ranks a close second to Brownie hoisting it earlier that evening.
[Reply]
I’ve been a kings fan since i can remember. Watched them when they were on channel 9 on tape delay and listened to them on radio all because of Bob!! I wanted the Kings to win the cup more for him than i did anyone else. One memory that kept replaying in my head during these playoffs was when Los Angeles did an interview with the “Three Hall of Fame Broadcasters”, Vin Scully, Chick Hearn and of course our own Bob Miller. Vin Scully and Chick Hearn were joking around about how they didn’t know which championship ring to wear for the interview and Bob had to just sit there with a ‘no comment’ like the little kid who didn’t get picked to play kickball. Well Bob you have a championship ring to wear now!!! this cup is for you!!!! I can’t wait to listen to game 6 with his voice doing play by play in a way that gives me chills and I know will bring tears to my eyes!! Kings 2012 Stanley Cup Champions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
