Yeah, but now I am mad that he did not get to make the call…The Kings are the Stanley Cup Champions!!!!!

@miracle.on.manchester, I was at the game but I’m assuming that Miller wasn’t given the respect of calling the last 5 minutes of the game. I think it shows an absolute lack of class to not let a professional of 39 years, true lover of the sport, and Hall of Fame broadcaster do his job for the pinnacle of his career.

@miracle.on.manchester, I’ve been posting for a month or so. Too have the Kings redub the final moments of the game and maybe the goals having Bob Miller call those moments off the game film to be played at the parade. After all for those of us that have watched Kings Hockey for the last 25+ years its just very hard to believe its real if the play is not called by Bob. I have had the pleasure of having season tickets for the majority of that time, so I saw this game live. I do like watching the rebroadcasts even after going to the games to see plays the weren’t replayed on the big screen, so I do hear Bob for close to 80 games a year. Don’t retire we want a decade more of cup contention with your ageless wisdom making the call.

@luc20rules, they did have him calling the game…him and Jim fox….they are hoping to get the rights to use it on the videos at the very least…heres an article about it http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1210189-los-angeles-kings-bob-miller-to-call-rest-of-stanley-cup-finalsort-of

    @miracle.on.manchester,

Didn’t Bob and Jim call play by play for the in arena broadcast? You should have heard him by the concession stands and such. The kings recorded it for future use.

@FKA PakiFro, SO they DID record it then? NICE! Can’t WAIT for it to come out for the public to hear. I will OWN that recording somehow.

    Lavamantis Reply:

@Cynic, I dunno if he’s a fan or not, but I’d sure like to hear that broadcast. I hope it’s available on DVD soon. This is such an incredible moment, I still can’t believe it. So many seasons without much hope (including the vast majority of this one!)

    Scott Reply:

@miracle.on.manchester, Yeah great point but unfortunately it’s the fans who lost the most by not having Bob and Foxy give us the call. How horrible was it to have hazey on the broadcast team earlier was it round 2? I really really hope the NHL fixes this huge over site in the future let’s all write the commish

    CB14 Reply:

@miracle.on.manchester, I believe him when he says he’s not a Kings fan. But just because he’s not a Kings fan doesn’t mean he can’t be happy to see the Kings win. It’s just that his happiness probably comes from seeing his friends and co-workers being so happy to have finally won the Cup.

I got a text from my aunt, who is the farthest thing from a sports fan, congratulating the Kings on winning the cup. People take joy in other peoples happiness.

    miracle.on.manchester Reply:

    @CB14,

Well, Bob was a Blackhawks fan growing up. Do you think he is a Kings fan now?

It is very hard to not become attached emotionally when a person spends so much time around those he has developed a bond with. Professionally, Rich may not announce he is a Kings fan but that doesn’t mean he is not enjoying the moment like a fan would.

    luc20rules Reply:

@CB14, Rich had echoed what you said in the 2nd post. He has also said he has gotten to know of the players and pulls for them. Not that they hang out after practice or games, but just working and around the game & practice facility. My second sentence makes me think he is a bigger fan that he cares to admit. After all I must say from the time I started following the Kings the out of sport activities like charities and other things they do for the community have made me a bigger fan for just about everyone of the players. I don’t know what it is exactly, but hockey players just seem to be far more humble and appreciative of their fans and the community in which they play.

P.S. Glad to see you back on here these last few months. Some of those people who were “suckling at Murray’s teet”, as puck73 would say, did get a little out of control. At least they’re all silent now. :)

How sweet it was not to have to listen to the Devils crew tonight! Just got done watching the replay.

Dustin Brown plays to the scouting report – do not express doubt about me. Imposing his will all through the game. Did you see him destroy Clarkson toward the end of the game? Exclamation point on the victory.

For all he’s done this year, no one is more deserving than Quick for Conn Smythe (although Brown, Kopi, and Doughty could have won it).

Isn’t Scuds the only King without a goal in the playoffs? Well, tonight he gave the phrase “take one for the team” new meaning.

Killer instinct. There is no justice, just what you do with what you have. So nice to make them pay. If you were going to pick on one guy to get the Kings focused on making you pay, Devils, it is Scuds.

Sweet, sweet move by the big fella, Dwight King to get the net on Lewie’s goal. And good for Lewie, potting two!

Carter cashing in opportunities, just what he’s here for. What a year for him. Lowest low, highest high.

Voynov has been listening to @Harty, let some doubt creep in tonight. But he looked strong as an oak hoisting the Cup!

Congrats to Bob and Jim and all the Kings! I’ve been a Kings fan since I was a little kid, even before The Great One came to LA. After so many years of disappointment, this tastes so sweet. After watching the last two regular season games this year against the Sharks and having the Kings blow leads and lose in overtime, my expectations were not high for the Kings this year. But for whatever reason, they got it out of their system and regrouped. I think this whole season a lot of luck and bounces didn’t go our way, and that changed in the playoffs. Everything clicked. Everyone played to their potential. I think the overlooked hero for us was the rookie, King, with 5 huge goals and big plays. I am so proud of this team. Seeing Brownie lift the cup gave me chills. My eyes became teary. Amazing.

#44 was, as I recall, one of the last players to not wear a helmet….
as such, he took on the image of HAIR FLYING as he skated up and down the ice…
flamboyant or colorful, you decide, but certainly a fan favorite at the Forum…

Seeing the Cup raising by all the players & Kings staff made me realize that my trip to NJ for game 5 to see it live was not a waste it was like insurance. I just couldn’t imagine not seeing it live after being a season ticket holder for so long. I am hoping we can sign Quick long term once we know what that costs, then target Stoll & Fraser if the price is reasonable. I would say Penner too, but I have a feeling he wants 3+ mil and that may be more than he produces in this system.

The LA Kings are awesome! I could rememeber my mom always complaining about me taking the bus for 2 hours on a school day to go see Palffy “pick a pocket”. It was more exciting then hanging with the homies, that’s for sure. Now I drive 45 minutes to go see #23 bust someone up. I wish my homies would have went with me. Maybe they would still be around. GKG!

After years in LA some sports personalities have become so much more.

Chick Hearn. Whutta ride with the “Chicker”. (The lights are out…)
Vin Scully. Calling Gibby’s at bat in ’88 still chokes me up today.
Bob Miller. Just a treasure really. If you are a Kings fan, Miller’s game calls are like “home”.

I wonder what the late, great Jim Murray would have written about this Kings crowning moment, their fans and broadcaster who have enured so long.

Very true that because of Bob, Jim, Nick and Daryl, us KINGS fans have seen the ups and downs of this long 45 year drought, but still had faith because you brought honesty and integrity to the FSN broadcasts and am 1150.

    Thanks to all of you!!

    Feels so damn good

Sitting here on my couch, crying again, watching the replay of Brownie skating with the cup….a most hearty congratulations and a big hug to Mr Bob Miller and Mr Jim Fox. Those two guys’ contributions to this organization can not be measured. As Luc put it, “we’re getting kicked out….these guys want to party all night”. Well deserved.

Please let us out-of-towners know how we might be able to see the action. Hopefully it will be on NHL Network, but if not, it would be great to have a stream or have the video posted after the fact.

Great to see Bob lift that CUP! I hope the Kings package the seven games with Miller call or at least some, especially the ending. NBC did such a horrible, biased job of coverage and Kings did not get respect they deserve for this bitch slap of a game. Example: Kings up 4-0 and Pierre Maguire states “The Devils are so good down low”! Really? And their great on the penalty kill too, right? Nobody seemed to mentioned the relentless, determined onslaught of the CHAMPIONS (from the West NBC). Milbury the only even keeled guy. Please Kings, cover it all for us with Bob and Jim. And the parade, so we can watch over and over. Only nine more days til the draft and Kings can be in the last row!!!!

  87. Capt Jam says:

I had the distinct and unique pleasure of hearing Bob and Jim’s call of Games 4 and 6 live without the aid of an electronic device. They set up camp to call the game directly behind my seats in Section 318, so myself and a few other lucky folks were able to hear them call those games directly in our ears. It just added to the surreality of the 2012 playoff run.

During a TV break with about 6 ot 7 minutes left in the third period, several fans turned around to talk to Bob and Jim. They tried to remain poised and professional, but you could see that emotion of the moment was finally start to get to them. God bless ‘em if they didn’t hold up through the whole broadcast, but Jim bawled out 30 years of disappointment and frustration a few minutes before the game ended.

It was a timeless moment that I will never forget and one which is indicative of why hockey stands alone among sports for the passion it inspires.

I understand the Kings get to put 52 names on the cup. Will that include Rich Hammond, Bob and Jim, Nick and Daryl…how about Westgarth, who was on the team all year, but didn’t play in the playoffs? What about Terry Murray, or even Jack Johnson who played a lot this year. Can anyone answer these questions definitively, I’d like to know. thanks
