Scuderi postgame quotes (June 6)

Rob Scuderi’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
SCUDERI: “I thought we played OK for the most part. I thought both teams were kind of sitting back for a long period of time. I thought we had some opportunities to get the lead, and Brodeur was the difference. He made the big saves when he needed to, and they capitalized on a couple of their opportunities and that’s it.’’

(on whether the Kings played with anxiety, knowing the Stanley Cup was in the building…)
SCUDERI: “It’s part of it, but the Cup is going to be in the building whenever we play, for the rest of this series, so I don’t think we can let it get to us. Maybe there was a little bit more buzz, because we were here at home, but ultimately if we don’t finish the job, we don’t deserve it.’’

D was kinda sucky tonight. You’re bud Mitchell was really sucky. Let’s hope things turn around.

    @MmmmYummy,

Have to agree. Mitchell and Voynov both stuggled a bit and Martinez made a couple of mistakes early in the third. JW had a poor game as well. He had the PP goal last game but lately hasn’t contributed much to Kopi’s line. We need more from him.

Carter was the best forward for the Kings tonight. He was all over the ice using his speed effectively. Pretty sure we are going to win game 5 in any case!

@Crown Royal, agree about Jeff Carter. Penns was flying, too. I was sure he was going to bury one. Great to see him churning it up out there.

I have a general question for anyone who was at the game.
At one point, I think it was in the 2nd, we cleared the puck from behind the net. I can’t remember who shot the clearing pass, but as he skated into the Right Circle – I saw Quick buried under a Devil. Both were inside the goal net. How the hell did that happen? And why no interference?

@IceGuy, I saw it on TV, but it looked like he was checked or lost an edge. did not look to bad, plus we had the puck/

@IceGuy, I sure wondered the same thing. Maybe the NJ player lost an edge. If not something really sh**y/shady was going on.

@IceGuy, Saw it on tv, the guy lost an edge and slid into Quick.

Might have been the ugliest effort from them the whole playoffs.

Oh well, off to our home away from home, the road.

@The Grice Boys (formerly Barrie G),

Actually I think we played pretty well-better than in game two. Our D-men did not have a great third period except for DD’s goal. JQ will normally stop that shot by Henrique.

@Kings Fan In Temecula, My sentiments exactly. I posted in the Quick thread that Voynov and Mitchell were both on the ice for the two goals. I think Mitchell played fine, but Voynov makes a lot of mistakes and Mitchell has been there to hide those mistakes throughout the playoffs. After the first goal, I would have gone down to 5 D and sit Voynov for the rest of the third. I know Voynov is a rookie, but no time to think about his emotions about being benched, his mistake led to their first goal. And on the second goal he was way too far off the blue line when they entered. If he’s a little tighter to the blue line, he tips that pass out of the zone and that pass never gets to Henrique. But we are still up 3-1, so we are still in command.

WE didn’t take the game to them. We were making sloppy passes and it seemed like we were just trying too hard. There is a lot of pressure on this young team and they want to deliver but sometimes you just need to Keep it Simple Stupid.

@Dazed N Confused, that’s what i said to my wife, passes were not crisp, a lot of bad decision making. I expect Kopi to play bigger next game. our top line will shine. Quick will be Quick. And we will be champions.

    @Dazed N Confused,

the other thing i have notice is that we have not played the same brand of hockey we played against the vancouver, st louis and phoenix. you are right, we need to take it to them and make them pay. play with more desperation

    MattG Reply:

@Dazed N Confused, I totally agree. We should have laid them out all over the ice. One of the NHL network announcers predicted NJ would try to slow things down and they did. That being the case, we should have lined them up and put em over the boards. I fully believe Coach Sutter will re-familiarize our guys with the task at hand and have them ready to rock on Saturday night.

    Go! Kings Go!

Does anybody really think NJ played a great game? WE played a crappy game…period. Move on and get it done in game 5. Go Kings Go

@TiredOfIt, H**l no they didn’t. Any other year we would have been pleased just to compete. We WANT to WIN now…

I think we need to start leaking some wingers out of the zone and catch the Devils defensemen on some of those aggressive pinches.

  11. cromartee says:

    Well that sucked.

    Us back to earth.

I thought we played a lousy game and the Devils didn’t so that was that.

I truly wanted it to be over with and I’m sure our players did.

I’ll adjust and be ready and eager for the brand new season on Saturday (appropriate use of a Sutter philosophy).

I had a horrible seating arrangement so I realistically saw less than half the game which may be the reason why we were so bad. Plus that guy that brought his wife when she makes a lose. Even Quick didn’t show up.

    Cesar A Reply:

@cromartee, Don’t focus on the negative. Remember the Kings are now up three games to one on New Jersey. One more Kings win and this Stanley Cup is over. Let’s Go Kings!

Thanks, I’m good. I was just letting my thoughts out I guess. I’m not down on the team, or anybody, in any way. I get over stuff real fast but It helps to say it. This may have done the job.

Devils got some of the bounces they didn’t get before. Both teams played well, for the most part. It is what it is. They might even win the next game, but they don’t win the next three.

  13. zulov says:

Yeah, I thought the kings had better chances and got real unlucky with the 2 posts. The only breakaway we blew is the Lewis one – if he had the presence of mind to do something crafty, or get it back to gags, we win. Oh well. Disappointing – I had a lot of hopes built up for this game, not gonna lie. Tying the record the 88 oilers set was very desirable. I know, crazy talk, but I bought into the hype.

Oh well. This will be a wake up call to the guys.

Can’t stand the announcers accusing brown of faking the boarding call. What a bunch of east coast homers.

Oddly seemed like milbury and gang wanted to see the kings win it in 4 at home. I think everyone was wrapped up in the story.
