One more Kings-Devils connection

An item yesterday pointed our that Mike Richards had played for New Jersey coach Peter DeBoer at the junior level. He wasn’t alone. Justin Williams also played two seasons under DeBoer for the Plymouth Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. This information was provided by Williams, whose mother very politely sought to point out the omission through her son. So, a hello and thanks to Mrs. Williams…

    Justin Williams has some of the coolest parents in the world. They are at almost all of his games and take time to shoot he breeze with fans. Must be very encouraging to Justin.

    Lisa Dillman in the LA Times has an article on the Richards/DeBoer connection.
    There are two other good articles; none by Simers or Plaschke but there is one by Hans Tesselaar. Rome wasn’t reported in a day.

    @Munchrat, yes, the big Russian as well. This is going to be one great finals. Not going to be easy for the Kings, Devils have alot of skilled players coming into this, all eyes are going to be on guys like Kovi, Parise, one player to look out for would be Zubrus. Marty in net, well, that is already explained, 3 cup wins, 5 times in the cup finals, 40 yrs old but look at his experience on the ice, all situations possibly he has been through in cup finals. Like I said, going to be a very, very exciting finals for Kings fans and Devils fans

    On the other hand, didn’t the Kings fire him as coach? Maybe he won’t be too heartbroken after all–until his DEvils go down in flames 4-1!

    @ Rich Hammond,

    I’m pretty sure that it’s the Plymouth Whalers(formerly Detroit Whalers), and Kitchener Rangers, as the OHL teams DeBoer has in common with some of our Kings.

    Richards would have been a Ranger and Williams would have been a Whaler.

    One more connection, Simon Gagne has New Jersey license plates on His sweet porsche. He stopped for pics and autographs after practice. He was in a green “your not playing” jersey, but he sure looked good. He said he is ready to play when he was signing autographs.

    @brian spain, Totally encouraging.
    Especially for maverick fans that would like to see him immediately reinstated!

    This seems like a good place to state my appreciation for the excellent play by Justin Williams and his contribution to the team. He has been my favorite player for a long time now. I do not consciously pick a favorite player. It comes unconsciously and it seems that I am usually drawn to a player who has a bit of a unique style and adds something special to the team. The one thing to notice about Justin, besides his superior puck handling ability, is that he has a knack for getting to where the puck is going to be before even the puck knows it is going there. He’s always in motion and always thinking. He’s as smart as any player on the ice and he is tough, for not being a tough guy, and fast, for not being a fast guy. He is quick, for being the quickest. He comes out a scrum with the puck more often than anybody. He makes great passés Kopitar and Brown and whoever he is playing with. He has taken as many uncalled/badly-missed penalties, several in front of the net, in the playoffs as any King. He is unselfish and it’s obvious he plays according to the coach and doesn’t complain. He plays defense, including on the power play although he isn’t needed there much since the Kings have so may great defenders. He is great on one-on-ones, has beautiful moves and a supreme shot. Regardless of whether he gets any headlines, he makes is happen. But nothing would surprise me less than if he’s the MVP in the coming romp over NJ!
