Anze Kopitar’s postgame thoughts…
(on not scoring on the power play…)
KOPITAR: “We had our opportunities on the power play and we didn’t cash in. We lost the special-teams battle tonight, and we’ve got to make sure we correct that on Tuesday.’’
(on how to improve the power play…)
KOPITAR: “Just shooting more and simplify a little more. We have to get some bodies in front of the net and make it tough on Smith.’’
(on trying to wrap up the series in Phoenix…)
KOPITAR: “We’re still in a good position. We have to hit the reset button, refocus and make sure we have a lot of energy for Tuesday.’’
(on the game…)
KOPITAR: “We got some chances that we couldn’t bear down. Maybe we didn’t put as many bodies in front of the net as we wanted to and it eventually cost us.”
Trevor Lewis had a great game….didn’t notice anyone else, really

@Kingsfanforlife, Lewis had a really good game, they didn’t seem to have any energy hopefully they come out strong in game 5

@Kingsfanforlife, Really, the Kings out played Phx, and Smith stole the game. Lewis was about like every other Kings he had/created opportunities, but couldn’t finish any of them. My complaint would be that the Kings didn’t dole out very many hits, and didn’t fight as hard to get into the slot like they did thru the first 3 games of the series. But, I still think this could blessing in disquise, since there is usually a 4 to 5 days between the Conf. Finals & Cup Finals if NJD & NYR go to 7 then that would be about a 12 day rest too long.

@Kingsfanforlife, Ditto. Trevor Lewis had a great game throughout. Most of the Kings players had sporatic good shifts throughout the game, but as a whole, not good enough.

We were just off today…
Pretty simple to see that…
We had our chances and didn’t connect…
We get to see more hockey…
Can’t be that bad…..

@SLIM, Oh boy. Banner year so far in music.
First Davy Jones and now this. Who’ll be next, Frank Sinatra?
Guess I can’t use ’1941 NY Mining Disaster’ as a theme song for the Finals now, then …

@SLIM, Yes, it really should never be too easy.
We needed some adversity to teach us to fight again.
We’ll be all the better for it vs the NYR.
The other thing a loss now does is keeps us apace with the ECFs so we don’t finish too early.
DS is a genius!

at some point, the power play will have to make a difference. glad to hear kopi say it. but lets face it . . . they lacked the jump and energy they needed to put away the yotes today. they made smith look great with their weak offensive push. file the mulligan and lets not have to think about asking for another. no passion today to close them out . . .

I’m holding you to this Kopi… if I don’t see bodies in front of the net on the PP on Tuesday, then I’ll… I’ll… issue an empty threat about not liking The Kings anymore.
Don’t make me make hollow promises… I wont do it.

We lost the special-teams battle tonight, and we’ve got to make sure we correct that on Tuesday. Anze Kopitar….. I think , I meant I know they lost more to it than that. They had no fire in them, Phoenix played like there was no tomorrow. They played smart and capitalized on the Kings mistakes. Kings were caught deep many times in the Yotes zone and allowed for many breakouts because of that. Kings need to shoot more from crossing the blueline and on top of the circles and pouncing on the rebounds if they want to score on Smith. You don’t think they went over all the videos from prior games to see how the Kings were scoring on them? Phoenix also had coverage of the Neutral zone for the Kings could not set up much other than dump and chase and the Yotes were right on it. See what happens game 5

They shut our big guys down today. Next game will be different. I think this loss will be a good learning lesson, and we will be better for it.

Our best player was Slava…
He is getting better every game…
So many deceptive moves from him…
And good checks..

@SLIM, They waited to bring him down from the top until 3rd period late. That is bad tactics by the coach. We waited for that team to give in instead of taking it to them. Bad idea.

It didn’t help when the French military can defeat our power play.
It also doesn’t help when 80% of the team came out flatter than a tortilla run over by a steamroller.
Don’t worry folks, we’ll win one for the redhead Tuesday.

@kingarella, besides that, this loss ain’t no catastrophy. Phoenix played good, our offense was also a little bit off.
Focus was not anywhere near the level of focus they had in previous games. I think they also got unpatient towards the end of the game and a little bit frustrated.
just get focused again and play our game. Could be good, this loss. If we would’ve won, I can’t imagine the euphoria … now it’s back to earth time. For Phoenix also…
must fix the power play. Shots from the blue line are weak and at a bad timing.

@kingarella, IMHO I would change that statement to “Doughty shoots too LATE on the PP” He always looks up and hesitates and by that time sticks and bodies are in the shooting and passing lanes. I feel the same way about Kopitar. As much as I love the guy he is very poor on the PP because of how slow he is to either pass or shoot.

..exactly Kopi, go and do that tomorrow. Phoenix was very lucky this time around, two posts (I think), two lucky goals … GKG!
