There’s really no way to rationally explain the Kings’ great road success in this postseason, so they won’t try. For a team to play three playoff series, and start 2-0 in each, with two road wins, is perhaps unprecedented. Of course, every game has its own flavor, and last night’s Game 2 against Phoenix was really nothing like Game 1. Two nights earlier, the Kings controlled most of the game but needed a strong third period to pull out the win. In Game 2, the Coyotes were stronger, but appeared to get frustrated early and then melted down in the final 25 minutes with a series of questionable hits.
The Kings, after an eight-game power-play drought, scored two power-play goals, and Jonathan Quick looked strong throughout the game, particularly in the first period and early in the second period, when the Coyotes put forth their strongest pushes. And while the Kings’ first line didn’t dominate again — credit the Coyotes for adjustments and focus on that — others stepped up, as second-line winger Jeff Carter got a hat trick and third-line winger Dwight King scored another goal. What was the key aspect of the Kings’ 4-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes in Game 2? I present three options at the link below, and you can vote for your choice…
