A very happy Mother’s Day to all the hockey moms… It’s finally a game day in the Western Conference. The Kings have become Los Angeles’ de facto NFL team, because they play once a week, on Sundays. Well, that will change after today, in what figures to be a tough series. The joke around here has been that the series will set the NHL record for highest average temperature. It’s supposed to top 100 today in Glendale, Ariz. Here’s how things look this morning, through what is quite possibly the dirtiest window in North America…

“Yeah, but it’s a dry heat”

Yes, your Mother’s will be watching you!
That’s all the motivation you need. Right?

I’m surprised that I actually ran into more Lakers fans than Kings fans at PHX Live last night. I guess everyone was in RH’s room whooping it up. LOL.

I posted a while back that the season would end with the Kings
and the Rangers just like it started in Europe.
All looks on target as we start the next series.
Go Kings.

Hi all. Was on a cruise for a week and its great to be back and reading all the info provided by Rich and comments by the bloggers. Was able to listen to the Kings take out the Blues in game 4, sionce no TV coverage was available on the ship. Listened to Nick and Daryl call the game while on the pool deck. Let out a huge whoop at games end and scared the wits of my neighboring passengers. Was wearing my Kings cap so they got the message as to why I was so loud. Been waiting patiently to dock and got home last night. GKG!!! Get a good start on the Yotes and play a full 60!!!

@Jsauce23, No, I am no longer in the UP. I live in Indio. Tech took a few steps back in hockey for a few years, but they have a new coach who was honored by the WCHL as coach of the year or something like that. Maybe, they will become a strong hockey power again. Where have I heard that before?? Their last runs to the NCAA finals were in the 60s when Tony Esposito was their goalie. Are you still in the UP? Also, I may know your buddy, but I have been away for many years.

@YooperSkip 24, I saw tech play this year they had one solid player and that was about it. Northern underachieved all 4 years I was at the school, they recruit anybody that can play hockey and do not really look at their character or grades.(USC Football) Nothing against Kaunisto haha! I’m sure you know a few of my friends and their families, most kids from Iron Mountain and Norway end up at Northern. I graduated in December and moved back to Pasadena for a few months. Now I am in Grand Rapids, which is a great city. However, not very many kings fans in West Michigan

@Jsauce23, Grand Rapids is a great place to be a Kings fan! Where are you watching all the playoff action? You should check out Tavern on The Square. The manager there is a HUGE Kings fan and always loves to see other local fans stop in to cheer on LA!

YooperSkip 24 Reply:

@KOHO, I guess many of us have a soft spot for the Wings, since they have been around for so long and quite a good team at that. But, once I moved to CA and the Kings were established, I became a Kings fan through and through. I still respect the Wings, but when they play the Kings they are my enemy. The Kings are always first and foremost to me. With regard to the Packers/Lions combination, I lived 100 miles from Green Bay and 400 miles from Detroit. That pretty much defines the reason the yoops root for the Pack.

@toemas_sandstrom, Most of the season I compared the Kings to Liverpool. Both are good defensive teams with a poor scoring record. They also have an expensive forward that doesn’t deliver (Penner/Carroll).

Man, practically giving away tix to this game on stubhub. Lots of nosebleeds available under $40. Just sad. Wish the same was true for games 3 & 4 here at Staples!
I once bought tix to a Cards/Packers playoff game for $25 days before the game and make the drive out. What a lame sports city.

I’m excited at 10:30am for a 5pm faceoff….it’s gonna be a loooooonnnnngg day.. I do want to say a word for Bob Miller and Jim Fox who will miss calling the game tonight. It is an injustice that these two are missing out on this potentially historic run for the LA Kings. I know people who grew up in the 70′s and 80′s in LA realize how lucky we were to get to hear games called by the best announcers ever to grace one city. Vin Scully, Chick Hearn, and Bob Miller were the voices of Los Angeles sports and each of them made every game seem so special and unique. Vin has had the chance to be the voice that described Gibson’s 9th inning walk-off HR to win game 1 of the WS. Lakers fans from the 80′s remember how awful homer Tommy Heinson was trying to call NBA Finals games, so we put the radio on and listen to Chick call the game on TV. Well, Miller and Foxy deserve to say “The 2012 Stanley Cup Champions, your Los Angeles Kings…”

My father, who was the biggest Kings fan I ever knew, engrained into me never to bet with my heart. I think what makes this year, these playoffs so intense is that if I had to place a bet, it would be on the Kings, and I wouldn’t be breaking my dad’s rule. It’s very sobering for a long time Kings fan to realize that. GKG!!! GKG!!!
