Sutter: Players `anxious’ to get going

It’s starting to feel more than a little like “Groundhog Day” around El Segundo. Travel can be a grind, but there’s no question that everyone — players, coaches, staff, everyone — will be happy to get on a plane Saturday and start feeling somewhat normal again. The Kings will practice again tomorrow in El Segundo at 10 a.m., then fly to Phoenix on Saturday morning and practice there in the afternoon. Darryl Sutter said, of his players’ mindset, “I think they’re anxious. I think it’s normal. They’re used to playing. They’re used to playing every second or third day. And especially when it becomes bigger, I think they’re anxious.” Jonathan Quick and Dustin Brown talked about trying to stay sharp, given the long layoff, in advance of Game 1 on Sunday.

QUICK: “It’s the same thing we’ve been doing all year. Obviously we’re going to have a couple more days of practice than normal. We just go into every practice as though we were playing a game the next day, and prepare as though we were playing a game the next day. I think guys do a good job of challenging each other out there, and that’s going to keep us sharp by doing that.”

BROWN: “It’s just (about) staying in your routine. Every player has different things that they do. We’ve got four or five days of practice, a little extra time. It’s important to stay in the gym and keep your body going. From a mental standpoint, it’s just doing a routine, staying in your routine, because I think most athletes are creatures of habit.”

    @Duncanz, Watching is always worse than playing when it comes to intense anxious games. Waiting, well that just sucks for everyone. I don’t have that thing they say is a virtue.

    @Osaka, Apparently, it’s only understood as a virtue for the person hearing that it is.

    P90X Reply:

    @Stuart, My wife’s worried about how long I might cry. Not that I’m getting ahead of things. But I’ve seriously thought about how long myself and every other Kings fan has waited.(30 years). that’s a lot of pent up emotion to let out. She’s also worried, because I’ve mentioned about running up and down the streets in a purple thong holding a Kings banner.

    Diego Reply:

    @P90X,

    Dude, my mind’s eye is burning. TMI!!!

    Stuart Reply:

    @P90X, nothing says hardcore diehard more than a adult man crying his out waving a Kings banner hysterically whilst only wearing a purple thong!! And I don’t suppose you mean to run with only one chancla on your foot?? Fortunately I only have 25 years in the bank so I don’t have to reach for the string just yet… but another 5 years might me go Frank the Tank all over Anaheim!!

    What street will you be running on so I can make sure my wife and kids are away from all doors and windows!!! LMAO

    FKA PakiFro Reply:

    @Gevo,

    With all that emotion, if they win it at Staples, it’ll make for some awesome TV.

    Count me in for the ones who expect to be teary-eyed if that happens

    Maybe all of us who play(ed) can gear up and have a little scrimmage against the kings. That should keep their hitting-people-through-the-boards chops up.

    It really sounds like Kings fants will be repruhsentin’ in Game 1. Was that post in the other thread accurate, though? Over 2,000 tickets to game one sold on Ticketmaster in the LA area?

    More than 10% of the crowd will be dressed in black to mess up their white out?

    @PaulHB, The series that proved to the world that Marty McSorley was a legit hockey player (in addition to his other pursuits), made him rich beyond his wildest dreams, and set us all up for 19 years of frustration.

    But that series was a hell of a ride! Blake was a wrecking ball. Shuchuk was a little Hellfire missile. Toronto was game. And Gretz showed he had just a little more magic left. If you haven’t seen these games before, hang onto your butts :)

    Big Rob in Dallas Reply:

    @PaulHB, I still got Game 7 on VHS! I’m sure the quality is still excellent. I had to tape it in SLP in case it went to OT. Anybody old enough to remember that?

    [Reply]

    PaulHB Reply:

    @Big Rob in Dallas, I’m certainly old enough. I grew up an Isles fan living in NYC in the late ’70s & early ’80s. These 2 games turned me into a Kings fan & I’ve hardly missed a game since. Can’t wait to see them again.

    so, who’s going?
    whats up? We should all join forces, just as our team is, and be out in a huge crew getting juiced up and walk in to the game together.

    I wonder if the Yotes faithful will make the same trek out to Staples for games 3 and 4. But it would be epic to see a bunch of black jerseys among the white in their house.
