Thursday skate update

The Kings’ morning skate has wrapped up at Staples Center. No surprises or changes expected tonight. Darryl Sutter said Kyle Clifford is cleared to play, but didn’t indicate if/when he might play. Clifford stayed on the ice for conditioning skating long after his teammates departed, typical for a player scheduled to be scratched. More notes and quotes to come…

Clifford elevated his game last PO’s. If he’s healthy he should play, they need him out there.

    [Reply]

    RLane420 Reply:

@Jorgen, Results over individual stats. I dont really see the Kings making any changes as long as they are winning except in the case of an injury. When a team is winning you dont want to change things. Hence practice at Staples and staying at a hotel prior to home games. Sutter see’s what this team is doing on the road and he wants to replicate that as much as possible. I love Cliffy and his game too but dont change a thing. “All we do is win win win no matter what” GKG.

    [Reply]

    yetiman_oc Reply:

@RLane420, you contradict yourself. No changes, then you point out what Sutter changed. In my book you don’t lose your starting job due to injury. If 13 is ready then I play him.

I agree. We’re 6-1 right now. I’m fine with whenever Sutter decides to put him in, but I would wait, not for a loss, but whenever the Blues actually dominate. Then see where he could help.

Right now the Kings are playing well, and St.Louis didn’t come on till the Kings stopped pressing the issue offensively last game. Sutter wasn’t too happy with the results, and I suspect he won’t let the Kings take their foot off the gas tonight.

    Harty Reply:

@Stuart, Hey guys I think Kyle should go back in, he plays 81 games this season to support the team and this is the thanks he gets with an injury.
He better then Richardson, Fraser, Nolan, King, Lewis for sure.

He’s only 21 and at the end of next year a RFA he may be get close to 290 games in the league already.
Big, strong, fast, forecheck’r with above average hands and good shot. Lets remember what he did to Nashville this year with Penne and last year in Chicago.
    (great moves)

Really imagine if he was given all the chances King has been given all season to play alongside Carter and Richards from the point King came up. Unreal how it happens in sports. King is a 240lb soft player, I liken him to margerine in a microwave. (soft, soft, soft)

Oh well they may make more trades to Philly maybe????

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

@Harty, man, it’s tough to argue for him to get back into the lineup, figuring how he’s been gone for 6 games, and the current roster is 5-1 in those games… it’s more a matter of why tinker when it’s working well, real well, at the moment?

I’m sure it’s nothing against KC and I would imagine that you would realize that if/when we do advance, KC will surely get another go before it’s all said and done…

    40YearKingsFan Reply:

@Harty, We are clearly a better team with Cliffie in the lineup regardless which one of the obvious choices he eventually replaces. My only concern is for his health because he’s young and has too bright a future to put it at risk, not to mention that the further we go the more we need him. I don’t claim to know anything about how these decisions are made, but they need to make damn sure he’s absolutely ready and not at risk of compunding the same injury. I want to watch Kyle Clifford play (in a King’s jersey) for many, many more years!

    Harty Reply:

@Harty, If Carter, Brown, Kopitar, Richards, Williams, was out do they go back in if we are 6-1??

  33. How many concussions has Clifford had? I’d say he has the most of any king player over the last three seasons. Not total in their career just over the past three seasons.

I wouldn’t play him till next season. He needs time to heal. At this rate he will be gone for good way too soon. I love the kid but he can’t help our power play and if you ask me the only thing holding the kings back from the Cup is our power play.

We have a big strong team who can handle the ruff stuff and if we really need a fighter then why not insert WESTGARTH! The guy gets paid to handle the fights and I know he’s not very effective but it’s better then watching a good young hockey player come back from a head injury only to suffer another one.

    GKG!!

@ILLEGALSTICK33, the answer is two, and Clifford would help this team right now. More so then King, Lewis, Richardson, Nolan or Fraser.
    thanks

@Harty, Only two? It seems like more. Maybe because Ive seen him get K’od on his feet in a few scrapes this season. The only place we need a boost is on the power play. If you think Cliffy can contribute more then the players on your list well I’m glad your just a fan and have nothing to do with any of the kings operations.

“Clifford recorded 12 points in 81 games for the Kings this season. He also posted a -5 rating on the season, while logging 123 penalty minutes.”

Let him get better and only use him in an emergency. The other guys have it handeled.

  34. Harty says:

Obviously Sutter will not play Clifford till he looses or finds out the Blues are running over guys. Geez has he not seen enough from Backes?? Penner, Voynov, Richardson, Fraser, Lewis, Doughty, Scuderi, Martinez, who’s next. Get Kyle back in to even the table.
Play him against him and open the gate.
