@UglyinLA,

Seriously? The bank was the right play even if it does go icing. Going slow up the middle would have given them the puck back in the neutral zone, going fast up the middle is just a quicker icing. The bank makes the puck travel farther and slows it down it hits the boards. Plus he knew that the bank would evade their defensemen and at least clear the zone initially and that's the number one priority even if an unintentional icing results.

@JackKent Cooke,

Yes, if he plays 3rd line and takes a salary that fits a 3rd liner -- one or two year deal his choice on the years (two years of security vs one year of low pay to reprove himself and move on the following year).

Under those circumstances - you're Penner, do you sign?

haha where are the clowns who called penner out the other day now? the guy was one of the most notice-able guys on the ice in game 1. he's not the savior or anything, but the guy has stepped his game up. hope he keeps it up for the rest of the playoffs. It could mean good things for the kings this/next year

@Berkalicious,

    Yes, I am aware of his past. My point is that he's playing on a level right now that is certainly on par with being a top five player. His play as of the last couple months has been pretty decent. Everyone needs to re-evaluate their criticism of Penner as of late. Several Kings players are in scoring slumps, relative to their salary, but they aren't getting the abuse Penner has endured. I think his slump is over and people need to re-evaluate.

@UglyinLA, But he has been playing harder, going after the puck and using his body more...I know everyone wants him to score, but if he was not contributing he would stay off the ice more often..

@Rob, It's funny that before the beginning of the season, all the commentators and analysts were saying the Kings were probably the favorite, or at least a "serious contender" for the Cup. It's kind of ironic that the team that was "built for the playoffs" has been forgotten despite their playoff performance so far. You know what though? It's far better to be an underdog. What those clowns say doesn't matter anyway. If the Kings keep playing like this, the commentators will be eating crow in June.

I’ve been bagging on Pancakes all season. I credit him with a great play on the first Kings' goal. Was that a fluke or is that the real Penner? If history previals, Penner will now go back into hibernation. Sorry Penner fans, I just can't get excited over one play. Here's why...

Even though he was relegated to the 4th line in the third period, he must have impress DS enough to be out there at the end of the game. However, Penner's decision to ice the puck at the end of game was not a good decision given the fact he had time and space to gently nudge it into the Blues zone.

In other words, if his lucky bank shot misses the net, its icing with 12 seconds left. he could have gone from hero to goat.
