A source has confirmed that Tyler Toffoli will be among the prospects who will join the Kings on a “taxi squad.” Those players might not join the team until it returns to Los Angeles, and I don’t yet have a full list of the players. It’s not yet known whether the Kings intend to have Toffoli play in this series.
Toffoli, playing for the Ottawa 67s, led the Ontario Hockey League with 52 goals in the regular season, and also had 48 assists in 65 games. In 18 playoff games, Toffoli had 11 goals and seven assists.

No chance he’s sticking that guy in and taking faith out of his guys. Every single player has contributed.
The only people I could see him replacing are Nolan or King. King is a possibility but he’s been moved to the checking lines. I suppose with Penner playing the second line, it could be a quick fix. Maybe thatll get Penner going again.

post-game report from a pre-season game, September 22, 2011:
Impressive game for Toffoli
Posted by Rich Hammond on 22 September 2011, 4:00 pm
Reports from Phoenix last night from Kings coaches, management types and staffers brought solid praise for — in no particular order — players such as Trevor Lewis, Dustin Penner and Jonathan Bernier, but the unofficial award for eye-opener of the night went to Tyler Toffoli, who had one goal and one assist but impressed with his all-around play while skating on a line with Lewis and Ethan Moreau. Toffoli certainly didn’t come out of nowhere. He’s a second-round pick from 2010 who totaled 57 goals and 108 points to lead the OHL last season. Toffoli isn’t expected to make the Kings’ roster out of camp — he has one more season of junior eligibility, and skating and conditioning still need some improvement — but Toffoli did well for himself in the Kings’ 3-2 victory over the Coyotes last night, according to Terry Murray…
MURRAY: “I heard a very good review (of Toffoli) also, so you got the same report I got. We’ve seen it right from the start of the training camp, through the rookie camp and the two games that were played. He’s a guy that shows a lot of composure. He’s very strong on the puck. His skating has improved dramatically from last year, when I first saw him. Now he’s getting that confidence that some players get early (and) some players need to go through some time before they get it. Right now, he’s strong on the puck, playing very confidently, seeing the ice, making plays, taking pucks to the net. When you hear about all that stuff, and you see it, you get a little bit excited. There’s a lot of potential for being a good pro.”

Hunter’s style would suit Murray better than Sutter. As noted, Hunter can’t skate. It’s like watching a Happy Meal wind up toy out there. He can play heavy on the wall and shoot hard from anywhere and everywhere, but he can’t get in quick on the forecheck, can’t hound guys off the puck, and definitely can’t play any kind of transition game.

@Stuart, I don’t think there is a limit. But, I think there are only two spots remaining. I believe they wouldn’t use those roster spots unless someone gets injured and only then would they know who to activate. That why I think a few players are coming and going to be with the team just to be ready to go…just in case.
[Reply]
Osaka Reply:

@Gary Livingston, No limit on players they can bring up or roster spots during the playoffs. They don’t want to bring too many because of logistics, practice, and cost. It becomes a distraction (training camp atmosphere) if they brought up too many. Usually anywhere from 2 to 8 players are brought up this time of year.
In honor of our freshly minted ‘gamebreaker-in-waiting’ (no pressure, Tyler), I have prepared myself a meal of fried Toffoli with Scuderi sauce, naturally.
I just wish the taxi would show up. The food’s getting cold luke warm.

PHX take a 1 game lead in the series via an OT set play faceoff. Yandle takes the Ozone faceoff and pushes the puck towards the net like an NFL “centerman sneak” with all other PHX players rushing the net. Whitney finds the puck and scores. Proves that a mediocre team with very good coaching and creative plays can go far in the playoffs. Can just imagine if we had a creative special teams/PP coach what we can accomplish??

I don’t know if he saw much playing time in the Monarchs playoff games , but he was pretty solid with the Oshawa Generals this year and was just wondering if the kid might have a shot.

@Adam M, Adam…..are you out of your mind????? Where is Trevor Lewis???? He played a great series against Vancouver. Scored a key goal and made a great play in stripping Hamhous of the puck leading to Stoll’s overtime winner and therefore knocking off the Nucks in the first round. Benching him for a kid that scored 50 in junior is a knock against a player who gave so much to the team during the season and the playoffs.
So much hype on Toffoli. I like the kid too…..but let him skate in practice, get a feel for things, let him sit in the stands and observe. Do not put him in, let him mature a bit, then when training camp starts then evaluate him.
Worse thing you can do to a teenager is send him out into the lions den before he is ready. Take a page out of Detroit’s book. They draft players and have them play in the minors for a year or two before making them a regular. Get them use to the pro game first.

Bud Holloway broke the SEL record this year for most playoff points.
Did the same last couple years in AHL with most GWG.
What’s a guy gotta do to earn a chance with Mean Dean!
Correct the rectal-cranial inversion Deano!

@Token, @sydor mentioned that he would have needed a contract before december to be eligible for this season, altho i agree with your sentiments

@Token,
TM scared him off. Thought he would have to play thick and heavy and would muck and grind his future away.

@Token, I consider Holloway DL’s biggest screw up as a GM of the Kings.

@KC23, DL doesn’t make screwups.
He makes decisions that are … best for both parties involved.
In DL we entrust @anonandonanon’s underwear!
GDLG & GKG !!!!!!!

@KC23,
I doubt it was DL that drove Bud away. Bet you he would be happy to play under Sutter in a heartbeat.

Toffoli on the taxi squad? I’ll pass that along…

Smart move by Lombardi. Let him come up, get some practice time with the big club, and be around a winning playoff atmosphere.

I say the Kings have been too stagnant on not keeping Toffoli up with the Kings in the limited amount of games before having to send him back to jr’s the last 2 training camps he has been in since his 2010 draft year. Oilers don’t seem to have a problem in doing so with the last 3 rookies they kept in their line up after training camp was over, look how they did for the team (Eberle, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins) You will never know how he does unless you play him in a couple of regular season games. Yes he got another 50 goals with the 67′s again, who knows what he could have contributed to the Kings this year in the scoring dept? Like I have always said, they took a gamble on Robitaille, who lacked in his foot speed but you have to play a player that has a natural scoring talent and a knack on getting to the net and finding the open holes, Toffoli does just that.
