    That detroit game was so freaking awesome when he had 51 saves.

    @Lake Forest, I was just about to post that too! that game was a total thing of beauty

    [Reply]

    TheAcaciaStrain Reply:

    @Shakes, boy it sure was. it was an away game, and detroit had so much momentum and he made a flurry of saves and the kings scored 5. That was a tremendous game

    [Reply]

    Shakes Reply:

    @TheAcaciaStrain, didn’t the kings have some bizarrely low number of shots, like less than 20? also like you said, he didn’t just make 51 random saves akin to some of our “shot mentality” games from earlier this year and last year, they were quality chances by the Wings

    Michael_DD8 Reply:

    @TheAcaciaStrain,

    Me always preaching Kings Hockey to non-hockey fans, i always show them that game. Summarizes alot!

    TheAcaciaStrain Reply:

    @Shakes, yeah the goals were almost fluke type goals. It was all red wings for like 10 minutes then back the other way…Goal…then all red wings for 10 minutes then the kings pick up a loose puck…Goal. it was 5-0 that game. and it was one that was broadcast nationally too. I remember i saw it on NBC sports or something. it was in december i believe and my dad was on a business trip so i watched it by myself heh.

    Kenny44 Reply:

    @TheAcaciaStrain, The Kings played “rope a dope”, letting the Wings punch themselves out in our zone, then killing them with counter punches :)

    @Lake Forest, I wont remind everyone who we played and got beat by the very next game after that one :)

    You’ve got probably 6 goalies who you could argue should win the Vezina. The key thing I think is the arrival of a new generation of elite goalies. Quick, Smith, Schneider, Elliot, these guys can really play.

    [Reply]

    Michael_DD8 Reply:

    @Donald_S,

    Smith and Elliot are not new generation .Older goalies putting together fabulous ends to there careers. Both have some left.

    [Reply]

    Michael_DD8 Reply:

    @Michael_DD8,

    As in ends to there careers, they both were backups and looked dwindling down! Smith i believe is only 30.

    mrbrett7 Reply:

    @Michael_DD8, Ends to their careers? Both are either 30 or younger.

    If memory serves Quick could have had more than 3 shutouts if Terry Murray wouldn’t have pulled him in the 4th game. At that point I knew Murray was on my get out list.

    Vote for Kopi for NHL13 cover! http://covervote.nhl.com/:b=chrome/#/ballot

    By the way when you continuously vote, when entering the security code, you don’t need to put spaces or caps on any of the letters. You can just type it quickly all in lower case no spaces and it accepts it. I don’t know if all those things are like that but i’ve discovered that about this one. :)

    Of course, congrats to Quick, well deserved nomination. I think he has a real good shot to win it, if they really look at what he has achieved under the circumstances he has faced all season with the goal drought for most of the season. The analysts also really seem to like Quick, they talk about him a lot and some guys have mentioned he doesn’t get enough recognition. Not to mention they find it astonishing that he LOST SIX 1-0 games. Outstanding goaltender and individual.

    Doc Allen Reply:

    @GkingsG99, And he never complained or put down the offense. This guy has as much character as he does skill. A great combination and we are lucky to have him. Now give him some offense Kings and lets get the Cup!

    Would of been easier to list the records Quick doesn’t have. That is one impressive resume. Quick’s agent must be licking his chops to get at DL.

    [Reply]

    Shakes Reply:

    @KC23, “most wins when giving up 4 goals or more” has to be Kelly Hrudey… the team was so different back then because they literally didn’t play defense… he used to get 40-50 shots on goal every game. For every so-so goal he’d let in, he’d make a ridiculous save

    This one seems like a must-sign like DD was in the summer. Fairly sure it gets done.

    [Reply]

    Hutch Reply:

    @pr0cess, He’ll probably get extended after the season. Plenty of money freed up, about $10 million, with Stoll and Penner off the books, or resigned for much less than their current deals, and Gagne bought out.

    [Reply]

    Gustavo Reply:

    @pr0cess,

    Penner: $4.25 million
    Stol: $3.40 million
    Scuderi: $3.40 million

    Plenty of room to pay Quick. both Penner and Stoll will be gone after this playoff run. Scuderi could be resigned at a lower price or sayonara.

  13. Kevin says:

    I’m glad the GMs vote for the Vezina winner, they’re a lot more realistic and aware of a particular goalies impact than an east coast sport writer that doesn’t regularly catch west coast teams. I think Lundquist is having a great season, but I’m guessing a lot of the attention he’s getting is due to the fact that he plays in NYC. In my mind, it’s between Rinne and Quick and considering Nashville was 8th in scoring and we were 29th I would say Quick certainly did more with less. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for an Ottawa win so Lundquist isn’t a factor anymore.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

    @Kevin, I think you summed it up very well. Even looking at non-biased fans from other sites, most pick Quick because of the King’s poor offensive showing this year. I like Quick’s chances. All 3 are very close though.

  14. Tweeners says:

    Looking at the big picture, The Rangers had 226 GF and 187 GA while the Kings had 194 GF and 179 GA. Thats a difference of +32 goals in support of Henrik while Jonathan had SIX 1-0 losses…Quick for Vezina!!!

  15. Gustavo says:

    Shutout streak (three, Oct. 18-22, 2011)….

    There should be and asterisk (*) next to that record with a comment like:

    “Due to a massive brain fart suffered by former LA Kings coach Terry Murray, Jonathan Quick was benched after his third straight shutout win to the dismay of every single Kings fan and the cheering of every other NHL team. An investigation for possible bribery and spike poisoning of TM morning tea is ongoing, but no suspects have been yet identified.”

    [Reply]

    Stagger Reply:

    @Gustavo,

    That was the beginning of the end for TM. I do respect him for sticking with his word when he had told Bernier he was going to start, but I’m pretty sure Bernier would’ve understood had TM gone to him and said “Look, we’re going to let Quickie ride this one out. I know I said you would play, and you will, but not tonight.”

    I think TM not only lost a lot of fan trust for this, but I also think this was a turning point in losing the team as well.

    [Reply]

    Gustavo Reply:

    @Stagger,

    Not me, I pretty much lost it for TM after that one. Putting one player’s expectations (and a backup goalie, at that) ahead of the team good run was detrimental to the overall enthusiasm. The rest is history.

    GO KINGS GO!!

    [Reply]

    Kenny44 Reply:

    @Stagger, I just think about it from Mike Richards’ perspective. You get bounced early from the playoffs in Philly precisely because your goalies play like marionettes with their strings tangled. Then, you come to LA, where your goalie can drop three straight SO while barely breaking a sweat. As MR, you have to be thinking, oh thank you hockey gods for blessing me with a competent keeper. I’m over that whole Philly thing if I can play in this land of serenity.

    And then, your COACH does WHAT???

    The scary thing with all those team records is that Quick hasn’t even hit his prime yet. In a couple of years he’ll be just entering his prime.
    Dean, when July 1st hits, get him locked up long term pronto.

    [Reply]

  20. Jeff says:

    Of course the Kings will try to extend Quick’s contract (after July 1st). The issues are, how much will it take and how much can the Kings spend, especially with the CBA expiring in September. I can’t believe that the salary cap will go down. If anything, the players are going to demand a greater percentage of the revenues. Having said that, nobody knows for sure what the next CBA is going to look like. As a result, how do the Kings negotiate with Quick’s agent before a new CBA is entered into?

  21. bitter says:

    My guess is that he will be resigned for something around 6 to 7 years at a cap hit of 5.5 mil.
    The Rinne contract certainly doesn’t help in getting him any cheaper.

    Quick is a God.

    However, any record related to “wins” deserves an asterisk since there are no longer any ties. shootout wins should be taken out of the equation.

    It’s an apples and oranges comparison that is unfair to King goal tending legends of the past.

    All this time people, myself included, were looking at DD as the next great player to maybe have their number in the rafters and JB to be the next great goalie for the Kings. Then along comes JQ and the whole vision changes. (In a good way that is)

    Could still happen for DD but I never expected JQ to be the goalie he has turned into.

    I can see 15 years from now, Jonathan Quick holding every Kings goaltending record, 4 Vezina trophies, 4 Stanley Cups and a couple of Conn Smythe’s, watching his jersey being unveiled in the rafters as they retire his number as one of the greatest goaltenders in league history. Not just Kings history, but league history. This guy is something special and is going to do great things for years to come for this team.
