Daniel Sedin went through Vancouver’s full-team practice today. Afterward, Sedin told reporters that his status for tomorrow’s Game 4 is “a game-time decision” and “we’ll see how it is tomorrow morning.” Sedin missed the final nine regular-season games, and the first three games of this first-round series, because of a concussion.

You just show up at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo. It’s a big complex with 3 rinks, offices, a concession stand & a bunch of kids all figure skating or playing hockey games. Anybody can just walk in. Knowing when they will be there is the hard part.

@MM, what Howe 9 said… Sometimes they close practice to the visiting teams (like the Caunucks). But I was a little surprised that fans/media were given free access close to the ice in the bleachers. I thought some teams prohibit fans down in that area as it can get distracting, especially with kids running around and stuff.
But yeah, unless posted, all Kings practices are open to the public. You should check it out! But that secret society thing sounds kinda cool too…

@Martin,
As I and other bloggers have said before, I think this is just a stunt to gin up the FuCanuckers team spirits. I seroiusly doubt the medical team is going to do a 180 and let him play, even if he signs a waver stating he has no symtoms. This is not just a naggin injury, this could be career threateming if he gets smacked in the head, not just by a Kings player, but by a puck or a stick or a collision or whatever.
My guess is that the Fucanuckers will wheel Daniel into the locker room all bandaged up and layed out on a stretcher. They will surround him and cheer in unison, “Win for our Ginger !!” They will then dress him into a slime green body suit, parade him around the ice during the pre-game warmup, and then glue him onto the plexi-glass next to their bench where Luongo normally sits and make Luongo sit in the locker room.

@thecupinLA, Teams are allowed to warm up a number of players in excess of roster space. And just prior to the game, the roster can be determined. Remember when Voynov was a little hurt. Drewiske was warming up before the game at Staples. But when the game started, Drewiske was a scratch. So we could see Daniel Sedin in uniform warming up before the game at Staples, but then he sits it out.

He’ll probably skate in the warm-ups, but I think its a stretch to assume he will play.
During the 2001 series with Detriot Yzerman came out for warmups for game 6 at Staples. His knee was wrapped up and about the size of a volleyball. He couldn’t put any weight on it, but he was out for warmups. Same thing tomorrow night.

What I want to know is why he wasn’t already out here supporting his team even though he wasn’t going to play last game. Obviously it’s not a problem to fly. I think he could have done anything here that he did at home in order to get ready – so why wasn’t he supporting his team? It appears too be a very lame attempt to correct this faux pas – too little too late.

@red49er, I wouldn’t try to read too much into things. It may have just been the medical staff telling him and the team that travel might slow down his recovery, just like flying at high altitudes after spraining/breaking a limb, due to the air pressure/blood flow factor.
Or maybe he has recovered well enough to fly. That’s a step. The next step would be practice. And the next would be for the medical staff to evaluate how his body/head has responded. It’s all very delicate with a concussion.
But like I said, I wouldn’t read too much into anything. I mean, did Simon Gagne accompany the team when they were in Vancouver? Would it reflect badly on him if he didn’t? Just playing Devils Advocate is all…

@mash-ola, I assumed he could fly because he just did. also if travel is an issue hire a car, take the train whatever, just get there. I understand your argument but still don’t agree with you. Gagne knows he isn’t going to play, he’s done and been done for awhile now. Sedin is a critical cog for them and his return is day to day. Just to finish my thought on this – yes I would be disappointed if an injured player didn’t accompany his team to their games no matter who they are or how close they are to returning. They are still part of the team and should want to be there.

mash-ola Reply:

@red49er, so basically, you’ve contradicted yourself by saying that Gagne knows he isn’t going to play and that he’s done, yet you also say that no matter who they are or how close they are to returning, you would be dissapointed if an injured player didn’t accompany his team. So what you’re saying is that you’re dissapointed in Gagne if he didn’t go up to Vancouver with the team.
Does anyone else find it convenient that it wasn’t announced that Mike Smith will be healthy enough to play tonight until after Shaw’s suspension was handed down? I’m not saying he didn’t get hit as it was clear Shaw’s shoulder clipped him in the head. (on the mask & head) But the whole scene after he got hit was odd.
1. He first was grabbing his head and writhing around as if he was shot. Most of the time with head shots, the truly bad ones, the guy doesn’t move a whole lot.
2. Then he lays there semi-motionless for a long time, bringing all the trainers and even the team doctor on the ice. Usually when the doc comes on the ice, the guy is off on a stretcher.
3. Miraculously, he is able to get up and get back into the game and finish the game with just a little magic water squeezed over him.
Since the game, he didn’t practice and was announced as questionable for the game tonight. As soon as the 3 game ban was announce, what do you know, Smith is ready to play tonight!
Who knows right, maybe it was that bad. I’m not saying Shaw didn’t hit him in the head, but it really seems like more of a performance than was necessary. I’m really getting tired of all this diving and embellishment, esp watching 3 games with Vancouver. Seems like even the old stinky glove to the face is causing guys to drop holding their head now. It’s getting old.

@Mudfish4, Benefit of the doubt:
He was hit in the chin. At first, his jaw probably killed and he wondered if it was broken and he’d be eating through a straw for the next month.
Then, he realized that it probably wasn’t broken, the trainers told him to stay still because he could have a head or neck injury.
Once he got up and didn’t have a headache and was not lightheaded, he stayed in the game.
After the game, when the adrenaline wore off, he had a headache from getting drilled in the jaw.
Since he had no headaches for 2 days and probably passed the mental acuity test, he’s good to go.
Or….
It could be to ensure that Shaw got a suspension.
I’m just saying that it’s not really that hard to understand it being legitimate, but it does make you wonder.

@PRMan, Farmers wish their planting fields were as fertile as your cynicism is! Let’s see in mere milliseconds Smith gets whacked in the mask, sees stars, thinks his jaw or nose is broken, thinks about staying down to put on a show, then plans to play it up so Shaw gets suspended…all of this in less 10 seconds and with the trainers and team Doc all on point with him? Yikes! Are you jesting here? These guys drink “cold ones” with each other after the games! Miraculous! I’m just saying!

Personally, I’d be very surprised if he plays tomorrow. If the series were tied, 3-3, then maybe he does, but why risk a career when you’re three games down and facing elimination?
