Kopitar postgame quotes (April 15)

Anze Kopitar’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
KOPITAR: “Maybe tonight wasn’t the game that you wanted to play. They came in strong and it just shows the character that we can win a tight game, and we’ve been playing those throughout the whole season. Quickie’s been awesome again for us and we came up with the goal and held the lead.”

(on Dustin Brown’s playoff surge…)
KOPITAR: “Yeah, not too shabby. [laughs] We need him to keep going like that. (His physical play) means everything to us. That’s what he has to do on a daily basis to be a force out there. Obviously, he wants to do it and we need him to do it, so tonight was probably one of the best games he’s played in a long time. I guess the one in Vancouver was not too bad either. We need everybody to play like that.”

@King4Life, Ugh, don’t ever wanna see him fight again. His job is to put a few in the back of the net and be a headache for opposing coaches. And he’s doing a great job.

Agreed. I was standing up in my seat screaming “Don’t you touch him!” at the top of my lungs.

@Lavamantis, What upset me most was how Burrows did not draw an instigator penalty on that scrum. Burrows hunted down Kopi, wrapped him up, threw his gloves off, and ripped off Kopi’s helmet. Burrows then started to throw punches while Kopi still had his gloves on. What was Kopi supposed to do? Try to push Burrows away? If he does that he gets knocked out. I never want to see Kopi fight but the refs had to do something there to punish Burrows for instigating.

Off topic, but how fitting is it that on Wednesday night both the Kings and Flyers have a chance for the sweep!

Again, it’s so exciting to have a team with so many key contributors. Kopi was good tonight, but not dominant, and yet we still won. MR was a little out of synch on offense, but played gritty and tough in our zone. JW played better tonight, but still has more to give. The young D are playing with poise and the veterans are just shutting the door. Carter has more to give. We didn’t get hardly anything from the fourth line. The Kings are still not playing their best, but they are finding ways to win, and showing that killer instinct, at long last.

@friarking, It wasn’t much of a fight. More like stand-up wrestling.

That’s the playoffs….one timely goal+great goaltending=WIN. Didn’t really think the Kings played all that great, but it doesn’t matter, a win is a win.

    Go Kings!

@Cup B4 I Die, Tell that to the Flyers and Penguins. lol

@Kingsation8, HAHA. Yea, I think both those teams missed the memo on playoff hockey meaning low scoring, grinding games.

    Welp….there goes the Lady Byng!

Awesome watching Kopi’s first fight live. Well, wrestling match anyway. Nice to see him stand up for himself, just don’t want to see that too often.

    NB22 Reply:

@Cynic, He was protecting Brown. And who cares for Lady Byng when your teammate is in trouble. That is what Kopi does and I am proud. But yes, no more fighting Kopi.

    [Reply]

    MM Reply:

@NB22, Yes, Kopi was involved in protecting Brown but I saw that “fight” as Burrows purposely seeking out Kopi to get him out of the game. You could see Burrows skate around a bit before honing in on Kopi. I’m still upset that Burrows didn’t get an instigator penalty.

@Cynic, It doesn’t count for the Lady Byng in the playoffs.

  12. KingInVegas says:

Two out of the three games the line of Brown/Kopi/Williams played well, but ever since game one, Carter and Richards didn’t do crap. Especially tonight they looked real bad. They need to pick up their game. You aren’t gonna win too many games like this in the playoffs. I know the Kings are up 3-0, but they could easily be down 2-1 in this series. I’m not trying to be negative, but I call them as I see them. And still got the win!!!! Vancouver is probably bewildered, confused, and just frustrated right now. Quickie is in there heads. :-)

    40YearKingsFan Reply:

@KingInVegas, I agree with you although it’s not going to be a real popular opinion. Richards does many things other than score, but Carter is struggling and he needs to find his scoring touch again. When Carter and Richards are playing to ther capabilities, we’re an even better team. Maybe Carter is still having some lingering effects from the injury.

    Kaiser Soze Reply:

@40YearKingsFan, They need to keep Penner on that line. Seems like all 3 play better with Penner instead of King. I agree that the Richards line isn’t bringing a lot of scoring to the table right now, but I think having them out there opens up the ice for Kopi’s line.

    DLB Reply:

@40YearKingsFan, Carter is playing through injury and gutting it out. It’s amazing he’s even there at all.

    Kingsation8 Reply:

@DLB, I am kinda eager to see Richardson play on that 2nd line. I think his speed will help that line quite a bit with Carter still kinda slow with the injury.

    TA Reply:

@KingInVegas, Sorry disagree. I think Richards is playing very well, he’s playing a great 2-way game. he is making hits and is great with the faceoffs, he also broke up countless vancover passes by being in the right place. He also has made a lot of nice passes but Carter’s game is off due to his ankle and King fumble away a beautiful pass from Richards right in the slot. Richarda game has been good just not his line mates.

  13. CheezyPoofs says:

Basically the Kings are playing with 2 & 1/2 lines. If they get to use the broom on Wednesday, a little rest would be welcome. They need to heal a bit.
The thing that has been really lacking is the 4th line. With BRD out and with Lokti being as usefull as a third elbow, the 4th line is suffering. That was the line that took on the oposing team’s 2nd line and 4th line. They were guys that really got the team reved up. Clifford was the sparkplug for that line. Without him they’re just hoping to not mess up.

speaking of Lokti, is he out? I knew it was bad when I saw him hobble to the bench after blocking that slapper.
